PRODUCT SHEET CA Repository for z/os CA Repository for z/os r7.2 CA Repository for z/os is a powerful metadata management tool that helps organizations to identify, understand, manage and leverage enterprise-wide information assets. Based on an open, nonproprietary and extensible architecture, CA Repository for z/os supports business and technical metadata for a wide range of information sources across the enterprise. Overview As vast amounts of corporate data accumulate and systems become increasingly complex, organizations must be able to identify and understand information assets and their relationships. Failure to manage this enterprise metadata can severely impact your business operations. CA Repository for z/os enables a common, shared view of critical data through an advanced web user interface that helps enable business-friendly access to vital information asset descriptions and their interrelationships. Business value Making informed business decisions and complying with government and industry regulations require an accurate view of information assets across the enterprise. Managing this information in a metadata repository provides value at various stages of an application s lifecycle in the following ways: streamlining development efforts, providing increased access to information, improvements to the consistency and quality of information assets, helping to significantly reduce maintenance and support time.

Features Mainframe 2.0 CA Repository for z/os has adopted key Mainframe 2.0 features that are designed to simplify your use of CA Repository for z/os and enable your staff to install, deploy and maintain it more effectively and quickly. CA Mainframe Software Manager : CA Mainframe Software Manager (CA MSM) automates CA Repository for z/os deployment and maintenance and removes SMP/E complexities. The Software Acquisition Service enables you to easily move product installation packages and maintenance from CA Support Online directly to your mainframe environment and prepare them for installation. The Software Installation Service standardizes CA Repository for z/os installation, which includes a new, streamlined Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) method that allows CA Repository for z/os to be installed using standard utilities. This service also provides standardized SMP/E product installation and maintenance via APARs and PTFs, and simplifies SMP/E processing through an intuitive graphical user interface and an intelligent installation wizard. The Software Deployment Service enables you to easily deploy CA Repository for z/os in your mainframe environment. CA MSM Consolidated Software Inventory (CSI) updates and infrastructure improvements add flexibility to CA MSM processing of CSIs and enable CA MSM to more effectively utilize CPU and system memory. Installation Verification Program (IVP) and Execution Verification Program (EVP): As part of qualification for inclusion in the set of mainframe products from CA Technologies released every May, CA Repository for z/os has passed stringent tests performed through the IVP and EVP to find and resolve interoperability problems prior to release. These programs are an extension of CA Technologies ongoing interoperability certification initiative launched in May 2009. Best Practices guide: This guide provides information on CA Repository for z/os installation, initial configuration and deployment to shorten the learning curve for staff who are responsible for the installation and management of this product. Health Checker: The Mainframe 2.0 Health Checker provides CA Repository for z/os Health Checks that execute under the IBM Health Checker for z/os. 2

What s new in CA Repository for z/os r7.2 Universal XML Exchange: Extensibility and integration options are enhanced via an XML document and a custom mapping document with basic rules enabling XML-formatted metadata to be loaded into CA Repository for z/os, along with the creation of a customizable reuse rule for each repository object. Graphical impact analysis: A graphical representation of impact analysis and object dependencies can be displayed through an impact analysis icon in the CA Repository for z/os Webstation Option result set. Users are able to drill down with further impacts by simply clicking on an object, providing ease-of-use combined with a modern web-based interface. Subordinate search and text processing enhancements: Both these tasks are now multirow actions, providing the ability for multiple row selection in performing either a subordinate search or text processing. Update capability and approval process: Using the CA Repository for z/os Webstation Option, a user is able to insert, update or delete repository data, with the option of initiating an approval process. Other key features The challenge in managing increasingly complex IT infrastructures is a daunting task for many organizations. The need to provide a way to manage corporate metadata from a customizable, centralized location has become not only critical, but mandatory. CA Repository for z/os includes the following base features: Enterprise wide metamodel: CA Repository for z/os tracks hundreds of information asset objects, including data structures, transformation and business rules, programs, models documents, data elements and stewardship; administrators can easily extend the repository to track new or customize existing objects. Extensibility: Organizations can customize the repository metamodel to suit their needs. User interfaces can also be customized and maintained using graphical administration tools. Open architecture: CA Repository for z/os is installed on IBM DB2 for z/os. This enables reporting and access to the repository contents using standard SQL-based tools. API access is also provided. 3

Versioning and lifecycle phases: CA Repository for z/os contains a wide array of metadata management functions including versioning, lifecycle phases, security, reuse logic and user profile management Metadata exchanges: A variety of options are available to provide robust extraction, population and generation facilities to applications throughout the enterprise. CA Repository for z/os can interface to various databases, code languages, data warehouses and modeling tools including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2 for LUW, Teradata, Sybase, ODBC, XML DTD, COBOL, PL/1, Assembler, JCL, CA Endevor Software Change Manager, CA IDMS and IMS. The base product includes exchanges for Flat File, IBM DB2 for z/os and CA ERwin Data Modeler, helping to leverage an organization s investment in existing metadata. Intuitive reporting: Metadata assets are published in a logical, business-oriented format via the web-based CA Repository for z/os Webstation Option, helping both business and technical resources to make better decisions. Global Impact Analysis: CA Repository for z/os Webstation Option enables developers to proactively assess the impact of change through a single graphical, global view of systems and applications.
