PROGRAM TO PROGRAM ARTICULATION AGREEMENT ARTICULATION AGREEMENT WITH RESPECT TO SOCIAL WORK EDUCATION BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH DAKOTA AND SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY I. Parties: The parties to this agreement are The University of South Dakota (USD) and South Dakota State University (SDSU). II. Purpose: The purpose of the agreement is to facilitate the transfer of South Dakota State University students who wish to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Social Work at The University of South Dakota. Students transferring under this agreement will meet all requirements for admission to the Social Work major. The admissions criteria will be as published in the Undergraduate Catalog of The University of South Dakota in effect at the time. III. Academic Program: The Bachelor of Science in Social Work offered by The University of South Dakota is the only Social Work degree program in the South Dakota regental system, and it is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Students at SDSU who wish to pursue this CSWE-accredited degree program may complete their first two years of baccalaureate education at SDSU, where they will take courses satisfying the regental system general education requirements, all support courses for the Social Work major at USD, and three introductory level Social Work courses. The program support courses and the introductory Social Work courses taken at SDSU will articulate as stipulated below. A. B. Social Work Course Requirements Social Work courses taken at SDSU for the Social Work major at USD will articulate in the following way: SDSU Courses Credits USD Courses Credits SOC 270 - Introduction to Social Work 3 SOCW 200 - Field of Social Work 3 SOC 271- Social Work Skills & Methods I 3 SOCW 210 - Interactional Skills 3 SOC 286 - Service Learning 3 Meets USD Social Work admission requirement for 60 hours of volunteer/paid experience IV. Obligations of the Parties A. USD will provide the following: 1. The Social Work Program at USD will provide at least thirty credit hours of social work courses including: SOCW 310, 320, 330, 340, 341, 400 and 496 (12-credit-hour field experience). 2. The Director of the Social Work Program, Division of Health Sciences, Sanford School of Medicine and Health Sciences, at USD shall be the official contact person for the articulation agreement in Social Work. The Director of the Social Work Program at USD will visit SDSU at least once per academic year to meet with students interested in the articulation agreement 3. USD will provide SDSU with a list of courses the SDSU catalog that will meet the Bachelor of Science in Social Work degree requirements and the supporting course requirements of the Social Work major. The USD Social Work Program will share syllabi and offer consultation for the introductory level Social Work courses at SDSU. Once yearly, a member of the USD faculty will meet with a member of the SDSU faculty to collaborate on the content and design of these courses, using current CSWE accreditation standards to guide the process. 4. The USD Social Work Program will keep SDSU informed of any changes in its graduation, degree or major requirements; and SDSU students who are in the process of transfer to USD will be treated as if at USD in regard to such changes. B. SDSU will provide the following: 1. SDSU will provide the necessary regental system-wide general education courses, the courses which support the Social Work major at USD, and the three introductory-level Social Work courses (SOC 270, 271, and 286) that contain content congruent with USD introductory level Social Work courses as well as the 60-hour experience required for admission to the Social Work major. 2. The Coordinator of Human Services and Pre-Social Work program at SDSU will be the official contact person for the articulation agreement. 2. SDSU will ensure that the instructors of the introductory level Social Work courses (SOC 270, 271, and 286) provided by SDSU holds the minimum of a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited university. This individual shall be designated the Pre-Social Work Program Coordinator at SDSU. 3. SDSU shall maintain advising folders on students interested in transferring to USD under the auspices of this agreement. SDSU will also provide information to the USD program Director Page 3
about these students, including course work completed, expected date of transfer to USD, and suitability for the Social Work profession. VI. Degree Granting Institution USD shall be the degree granting institution for the B.S. in Social Work. Upon completion of all degree requirements, a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Social Work will be awarded to students who have transferred and completed the program at USD. VII. Tuition Students transferring from SDSU under this agreement will pay tuition and fees to USD once they are admitted and enrolled in the Social Work major at USD. VIII. Termination of Agreement This agreement may be terminated upon 180 days written notice by either of the parties. In the event of termination, efforts will be made upon request to develop satisfactory arrangements for the transfer and admission of SDSU students who are interested in the USD Social Work major. IX. Modification of Agreement This agreement may be modified from time to time upon written notice to the Board of Regents. Modifications may not diminish the entitlements enjoyed by students who have already attended classes delivered under the terms of earlier versions of the agreement, except in rare instances in which retroactive implementation of modifications may be required to comply with Council on Social Work accreditation standards or to conform to the state of South Dakota professional licensing requirements. X. Review and Renewal: This Agreement will be reviewed on an annual basis and may be amended from time to time by the parties hereto. XI.
