Gathering Software Installing Client Profiles 6.0 You will need to have the following software to perform the install (I will provide the URL s for you to download these if you need to). SQL 2000 Server - SQL 2000 s Latest Service Pack - HTTP://www.microsoft.com/SQL ( follow the links on the right side of the screen.) Client Profiles 6 Server Side Installer - NewInstall/SQL/CP-Server.exe Client Profiles 6 Client Installer - NewInstall/SQL (the file will be named using this format: CP6ixxxx.exe, where the xxxx represents the latest build Number) Client Profiles 6 Update - Upgrade (the file will be named using this format: MSQL_cp6uxxx.exe, where the xxx represents the latest build Number) After you have all the required software we can begin. MS SQL 2000 Server Installation: (Time: About 20 minutes) 1) Insert The SQL CD, It should auto start (If it doesn t run X:\ autorun.exe, where X is your CD Drive letter) 2) From the Installation Menu Choose SQL Server 2000 Components 3) Select Install Database Server 4) Choose Next 5) Leave it set for Local Computer & choose Next 6) Leave it set for Create new instance & choose Next
7) Enter the Name & Company Info (this can be anything you want it to be) Choose Next 8) Accept the licensing agreement by Selecting YES 9) Enter you 25 digit Product Key & Select Next 10) Leave Server & Client Tools Selected & click Next 11) Leave the Default box Check & select Next 12) Leave the installation type set to Typical, You can change the Default installation paths if you want, Then select Next 13) Under Service Settings Select Use the Local System Account & Click Next 14) Choose Mixed Mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication), Supply a password or check the Blank Password check box & click Next 15) Click Next & I ll start installing files. 16) Once at the Setup Complete Screen, Select Finish MS SQL 2000 Service Pack Installation: (Time: About 15 minutes) 1) From Windows Explorer double click on your SQL Service Pack File. 2) It ll ask for a path to extract the files to, the default is fine 3) Select Yes to create the folder & it ll begin to extract Service Pack Installation the files 4) Once the extraction is complete, select OK 5) Insert your Microsoft SQL Server 2000 CD in the CD drive 6) From Windows Explorer browse to the extraction directory (from step 2) 7) Double click the SETUP.BAT file 8) At the Welcome screen select Next 9) Once again accept the licensing agreement by selecting Yes 10) At the Instance Name Screen Select Next 11) Leave the The Windows account bullet selected and choose Next 12) Select Next to begin the installation process 13) Select OK at the next prompt 14) And then select Finish to complete the Update 15) From Windows Explorer, Delete the Service Pack folder (from step 2). It s no longer needed Client Profiles 6.0 Server Side Install: (Time: About 10 minutes) 1) From the desktop, Right click on My Computer & Select Properties 2) Select the Computer Name Tab at the top of the window 3) About half way down you ll see the line Full Computer Name: Remember this name (you only need the info to the left of the first period. EXAMPLE: If the computer name was cpserver.clientprofiles.com you would only need to remember cpserver) 4) Select OK to close the System Properties Window
5) Click on your start button (bottom left corner of the screen), Select Programs, then select Microsoft SQL Server & Service Manager 6) If the Start/Continue button isn t dimmed, Click the Start/Continue button to start the SQL Service 7) Close the Service Manager window 8) From Windows Explorer browse to & double click CP-Server.exe (you should see the InstallShield Wizard start) 9) In the Server text box type the name of your server (the name your remembering from step 3) 10) Leave sa in the UserID text box 11) Input your Password from the SQL 2000 Server Installation (step 14). If you check the use blank check box, leave the password text box blank 12) Select Next to continue 13) Use the Browse button to select an installation directory (**tip: After selecting browse just replace c in c:\cpshare\cpwin with the drive letter you want it installed to), Select OK to accept the directory 14) Select Next to continue 15) The database path should reflect your changes from step 13. If not use the Browse button to put it in a sub-directory of step 13 called SQLData 16) After the database path is correct, select Next 17) Verify the paths are correct & select Next 18) This starts the file copy 19) Select Finish 20) Click on your start button (still in the bottom left corner of the screen), Select Programs, then select Microsoft SQL Server & Enterprise Manager 21) Expand the tree structure in the left pane 3 levels. You should see 7 folders (Databases, Data Transformation Services, Management, etc ) 22) Select the folder named Security 23) In the right pane double click on Logins 24) Right click on Admin & choose Properties 25) Select the Server Roles Tab at the top of the window 26) Verify that at lease Security Administrators & Server Administrators are check 27) Select OK 28) Do the same (steps 24 thru 27) for the account named CPADMIN 29) Close the SQL Server Enterprise Manager Window 30) From Windows Explorer copy the latest Windows Update (MSQL_cp6uxxx.exe, where the xxx represents the latest build Number) into the CPSHARE\CPWIN\UPGRADE directory 31) Double click the upgrade file to begin the extraction 32) Enter the password when prompted (If you don t know this you can call the help desk for it 1-866-720-5005 option 1) 33) After the Extraction is finished delete the MSQL_cp6uxxx.exe file from the UPGRADE directory (MSQL_cp6uxxx.exe is the only file you want to delete) 34) Right click on the CPSHARE folder and select Sharing 35) Select the Share this folder bullet & select the OK button
Client Profiles 6.0 Client Installation: (Time: About 5 minutes) 1) On Server or Workstation map a drive letter to the \\SERVERS_NAME\CPSHARE folder (for support reasons we like to use the letter P 2) Using Windows Explorer copy the client installer (CP6ixxxx.exe) to the CPSHARE\CPWIN\INSTALL\MICROSOFT directory (**Note: this is the file that needs to be run on every workstation that will be using Client Profiles) 3) Double click the installer to begin 4) You can accept the default installation directory, So select Next 5) Type in the name of the SQL Server (Server side install step 3) 6) Select Next 7) The installer finishes & closes itself 8) Double click the newly created Client Profiles Icon on the desktop 9) Use admin as the User ID & Password and select Login 10) If you receive an error message, hold down the CTRL key and respond OK 11) Once in the program, Select the Administration option on the menu 12) Choose System Setup 13) Double Click File Locations 14) Modify the file paths to reflect the correct folders (typically they ll start off with P:\CPWIN\ ) 15) Exit Client Profiles and re-enter (as Admin again) 16) After the update runs & your back in Client Profiles, Select the Administration option on the menu 17) Choose System Setup 18) Double Click on Firm Information 19) Fill in this information for the client, selecting OK when you are finished 20) Select the Help option on the menu, then choose About 21) Double click on the Client Profiles Logo 22) Login to the secure area of the software (If you don t know this password you can call the Help desk (1-866-720-5005 option 1) 23) While holding down SHIFT+CTRL+ALT click the User License Generator Button 24) Enter the number of use they have purchased 25) Enter their main 7 digit phone number (without the area code) This needs to be the same number used in step 19 26) Check off the options if they purchased them 27) Select the Generate button 28) Write the Authorization Code down, then select the Close & OK buttons 29) You should still have the System Setup window open, So double click on the Other Setting icon 30) Select the User Licenses tab 31) Enter the number of license (the same number you used in step 24) 32) Enter the Authorization Code (from step 28)
33) Check off the Options there getting 34) Click the Submit Button 35) The user Count (in Red) should now reflect the proper number of license 36) Select OK to close this window 37) Select Close to close the System Setup Window 38) Close Client Profiles 39) Your now ready to install the rest of the workstations (**Note You will only have to do steps 3 thru 7 on the other workstations)
