Postgraduate Diploma i Educatio (PGDE) LJMU is oe of a small umber of uiversities offerig a Postgraduate Diploma i Educatio (PGDE) istead of the more traditioal PGCE. Like a PGCE, the PGDE leads to Qualified Teacher Status, however, the model also icorporates 120 credits at Masters-level as part of the traiig year, based o assessmets closely liked to classroom practice. The PGDE ca be completed over the same time frame as a PGCE, for the same cost. As the course has more Masters credits tha a PGCE graduates ca udertake a full Masters (MA/MSc) degree more easily, while workig as a ewly qualified teacher (NQT), should they wish to further their professioal developmet. MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS PGDE miimum etry requiremets are as follows. You will also explore reflective practice liked to your ogoig professioal developmet ad gai the practitioer research skills required for effective teachig ad learig. Primary (Foudatio Stage/Key Stage 1 (3-7 years)) This course stresses learig ad teachig through play ad iteractio. It provides a challegig ad rigorous approach to learig which requires high level plaig, orgaisatio, itervetio ad assessmet. To help you gai a greater kowledge ad uderstadig of Early Years teachig ad learig, you will complete placemets workig with differet age groups (ursery, receptio, ad Key Stage 1), i differet settigs ad socio-ecoomic cotexts. Primary with Mathematics specialism (5-11 years) Primary with Physical Educatio specialism (5-11 years) Whilst preparig you to teach effectively i primary schools, these courses focus o ehacig your uderstadig ad skills i the learig ad teachig of EITHER Mathematics OR Physical Educatio. They are desiged for applicats with a special ethusiasm ad iterest i either of these subjects, who have a desire to pass this o to youg learers.

You will complete 120 days professioal practice i two secodary schools, teachig your specialist subject to 11-16 year olds. You will also gai appropriate experiece of post-16 teachig. Subject Kowledge Ehacemet programmes (SKE) LJMU provides free Subject Kowledge Ehacemet programmes, i some secodary specialist subjects, i preparatio for PGDE programmes. These iclude: Computig Desig ad Techology Mathematics Moder Laguages Physics If your subject kowledge is cosidered iadequate at the selectio stage, we may offer you a place coditioal o completig the relevat SKE programme. You may be etitled to receive a small cash Bursary for this programme. They are a excellet way to prepare for your iitial teacher traiig. Most SKE programmes start i Jue, followed by PGDE erolmet i September. QTS Professioal Skills Tests All ITT traiees are required to pass computerbased QTS Professioal Skills Tests i umeracy ad literacy before startig their PGDE course. You will eed to register for these olie tests ad are advised to take them as soo as possible. You are restricted to three attempts for each of these tests, which must be completed before you begi your teacher traiig. Attempts two ad three icur a resit charge ad, if you fail either the literacy or umeracy test o three occasios your applicatio ca ot be cosidered. Fiacial support Self-fudig full time studets o PGDE ad School Direct courses are eligible for the same rage of fiacial support as udergraduate studets. Please ote: ITT studets ad School Direct (tuitio fee) traiees are liable to pay a tuitio fee of 9,000 for their course. The fiacial support available icludes: a o meas-tested studet loa to cover your tuitio fees a meas-tested studet loa to help cover some of your livig expeses a meas-tested maiteace grat, which does ot have to be paid back a meas-tested LJMU Bursary worth up to 500, which does ot have to be paid back PLEASE NOTE: Your tuitio fees loa is ot meas-tested ad covers the full amout of your tuitio fees.
