Nuclear and Sustainable Power Engineering Ph.D. education in Poland Polish experience INSPE studies
Background- -challegnes in Polish energy sector Polish energy sector in transformation problems with dominant coal position (90% of generation) due to new European climate policy (CO2) continuous aging of major plants (>85% older then 20 years, 60 % then 30 years) New investments necessary Nuclear Energy Polish Nuclear Program 6000 MW till 2030, first nuclear reactor in operation in 2024 Renewable energy approx. 19 % of generation in 2020 (biomass and wind) and new European targets for 2030 and 2050 Challenge for academic sector to prepare appropriate specialists for the new type of energy generation in Poland. Therefore there is a need for specialized Ph.D. education.
Polish Nuclear Program Developing Nuclear Energy Educational Program Roll out of the NE learning program/ univerisities NE education on a large scale Trainings Experts dedicated to evaluate tenders Research projects that support power plant authorisation Expertise and certifications related to the investment Operational research and the future of NE preparatory phase selection phase pre-investment phase start of the investment
number of graduates There is a need for stuidents graduating from nuclear energy studies Additional faculties related to NE Nuclear Energyspecialisation preparatory phase selection phase pre-investment phase start of the investment
Key tasks in the current phase 1) Nuclear Energy Educational Programmes program of studies, lecturers, lectures, laboratory classes, teaching materials, specialist trainings, scripts In example: master degree studies Nuclear Power Engineering The Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering, WUT from 2006, now there are about 25-30 students per year new program, lectures, laboratory classes, scripts 2) The exchange of information and specialist know how in the area of nuclear power educational program between WUT and foreign, leading technical universities conducting NE faculties Long term cooperation between WUT and OSU, KTH, RPI, EdM, Dalton Institute, AREVA, GE, AMEC 3) Advanced traning program for experts in order to evaluate tenders, for TSO and to develop educational program Ph.D. studies related to nuclear energy research programs for Ph.D. students and researchers
INSPE studies International, long term cooperation project: "Establishing and running interdisciplinary, English language, international, full time Ph.D. studies Nuclear and sustainable power engineering
Project objectives 1. The enrichment of an educational offer in the area of nuclear energy. 2. International cooperation between public research institutions and business entities in order to create innovative, highly educated and specialised staff. 3. Research and development projects, for scientific exchange of information with the aim of developing technologies and techniques within the scope of nuclear safety and radiological security.
The enrichment of an educational offer Master Degree Studies Nuclear Power Engineering The Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering, WUT Language of instruction English, A cooperation with National Centre for Nuclear Research, New laboratories equiped with nuclear and heat- transfered computation codes, Laboratory classes in MARIA Reactor in National Centre for Nuclear Research, National and international internships guaranteed for students, 30 students per year ( including foreign students).
The enrichment of an educational offer Ph.D. Studies INSPE- Innovative Nuclear and Sustainable Power Engineering Started in January/February 2014, INSPE studies are conducted in close cooperation with transnational Partners OSU (USA), HNU (Korea), I2EN (France) Research internship conducted abroad, The possibility of receiving scholarship, Participation in the international projects related to nuclear energy
Cooperation with foreign Partners International research and development cooperation between public research institutions and business entities United States South Korea France
International experience Experience in conducting studies related to nuclear and sustainable energy - USA, France, Korea Adaptation of educational programmes (best practise) Double diploma- i.ex. Warsaw University of Technology and Oregon State University Possibility for WUT students to participate in research internship abroad (Scientific WUT Partners) Such actions allows us to prepare the optimal educational program for professionals and researchers in the field of nuclear energy.
