General information Télécom Ecole de Management (TEM) has the ability to enrol Ph.D. students and to award the Ph.D. degree in Information and Communication Technology Management (ICT Management). This program is conducted in collaboration with a number of noted higher education/research institutions in Europe and at the international level. Objective of the Ph.D. program and conferment of degree The objective of the program is to train highly competent academics/researchers in the area of ICT management. Successful completion of all requirements of the program leads to the award of the Ph.D. in ICT Management by TEM and a Diploma Supplement signed by the participating institutions in the training program. 2/5

3 2. Admission requirements for the Ph.D. program 2.1 Application package In order to be considered for admitted to the program applicants must have the following: - A research Master s degree in ICT/Management or related areas, or Another Master s degree with a strong research orientation; - A very good level of both written and spoken English. For those who are not native speakers of English (or have completed a higher education program taught in English, we require one of the following English language tests (TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, or other); - A Ph.D. thesis proposal (maximum 15 pages); - Two letters of recommendations; - A completed and signed application form. Completed application files are considered on a rolling basis by the Ph.D. Admissions Committee and the result communicated to the applicant as soon as possible 2.2. Registering the Ph.D. thesis subject Any change (thesis title, supervisor, etc.) must first be approved by the Director of the Ph.D. program on recommendation of the thesis supervisor. Admission to the Ph.D. program can only be validated if the student fulfils the admissions requirements as stated in 2.1 above and pays the requisite tuition fees for the program. 3/5

4 3. Organization of the Ph.D. program 3.0. Supervision Research supervisor Ph.D. thesis supervisor generally looks at the scientific work being prepared by the student, supervises it, and is committed to ensuring that quality standards of the work are being met. The supervisor is recognized by the scientific community, including the persons working on the thesis report and members of the viva panel. The research supervisor s task is to orient the doctoral student and assign a sufficient amount of his/her time in supervising the student. The thesis supervisor has to ensure that the Ph.D. student takes initiatives and is creative. The supervisor has the duty to inform the director of the program on all matters related to the supervision of the Ph.D. student. The director, in turn, informs the Ph.D. Committee on all matters related to the program. In case of disagreement during the first two years, the Ph.D. student is authorized to change her/his thesis supervisor. That means that he/she will have to notify his/her decision to the Program Director who, in turn, will inform the Ph.D. Committee. The thesis supervisor can also stop his/her mentoring by notifying his/her intention to the Program Director who, in turn shall inform the Ph.D. Committee. 3.1 Planning of the doctoral program training The Ph.D. program is for a period of three years. - The course component is to be completed in the first year; - The second and third years are devoted to the Ph.D research and thesis. Please note that all courses in the program are taught in English Pedagogical requirements of the Ph.D. program The academic transcript is based on the European Credit Transfer Systems (ECTS). One ECTS is equal to about 25 to 30 working hours including learning activities such as: lectures, seminars, researches, etc. In order to defend a thesis, it is necessary to get at least 60 ECTS (30 for employees) for the course component of the program Attendance Attendance at all courses in the Ph.D. program is obligatory. However, with the approval of the Program Director and the Ph.D. Committee, some students living far away could be followed to follow part of their training outside France. 4/5

5 4. Language The Ph.D. thesis is to be written and orally defended (viva) in the English language. 5. Study/research progression and validation 5.1. Annual progression, re-admission The Ph.D. Committee gives its approval for a research student to re-register for the program each year. Its members meet once a year to check and validate progress of the Ph.D. student. Committee members are drawn from TEM and its European and international partner institutions. Each student presents his/her thesis progression. The approval to pass to the next year is given by a simple majority decision of Committee members at the end of each presentation following a public consultation and a private debate Studies planning The entire duration of the Ph.D. program is three years. Exceptionally, a supplementary year may be granted to a registered student on the basis of a justifiable request from the thesis supervisor. 5/5
