I m hopeful my students will take these opportunities to become educated in the area of Life Skills.

Course objective: Students will obtain information about physical, emotional, social aspects of health and understand how making good decisions relating to health can affect their present and future lives. Health topics to be covered (These topics may vary depending on time and interest) Culinary Arts Topics primarily pertaining to food and cooking Essential Skills Money management, Communication Skills, Character building, Diversity, Goals and Decision Making, Parenting Skills, etc. Text: A textbook may be used occasionally. Note taking, handouts, discussions, enrichment activities, group work, student projects and videos will be used to present the material most of the time. Grading Grades will be determined on a basic point system. Each assignment, class activity, project, test, etc will have a point value. The final grade will be determined by dividing the total points earned by the total points possible. For example, if by the end of the trimester there were a

possible 1000 points and you received 750 of those, you would earn a 75% C. Hopefully your goal will be to put forth the effort to earn the maximum amount of points possible for each assignment. Grading scale: (A) 93% - 100% (C+) 78% - 79% (D-) 60% - 62% (A-) 90% - 92% (C) 73% - 77% (F) 59% and below (B+) 87% - 89% (C-) 70% - 72% (B) 83% - 86% (D+) 67% - 69% (B-) 80% - 82% (D) 63% - 66% * Receiving a failing grade will result in retaking this class! Late work policy One day late = ½ credit More than one day late = no credit Make-up for absent students 1. The day you return, view the daily agenda dates you were absent on! 2. Obtain work and ask questions if needed. 3. If you were unaware of the assignment and there are assignments that you ve missed, you will have as many days as the rest of the class had to make up the work. Those days begin the day you return to class. (For example, if you are absent

on a Monday, return on Tuesday then you must hand this assignment in on Wednesday) 4. Test make-up Tests can only be made up before school, after school, during lunch or during the next scheduled test resulting in having to take two tests that day Required course notebook (200 + points) A notebook will be needed to keep all assignments, daily journals, notes in-class activities (ICA s), etc. (Tests will not be kept in your notebook) 1. Obtain a 3-ring binder and 5 dividers 2. Label the dividers - Journals - Notes - ICA s - Current events - Other work or Miscellaneous The completed notebook will be due the week before exams. Beginning, ending class and tardy procedures 1. The Mona Shores tardy policy will be enforced. If you are not inside the classroom when the tone ends you are considered tardy. sign the form could result in added consequences. 2. When the tone sounds off then this is the time for students to sit in their assigned seat. 3. Be prepared for class! This means bring your notebook, writing utensil, agenda book, etc. 4. At the end of the class period students must stay in the vicinity of their assigned seat and not gather by the door. Classroom Environment I expect that all students maintain a mature and cooperative attitude in class at all times. I expect students to abide by school rules as well as the classroom rules to avoid a negative learning environment for everyone. 1. Be respectful to all people! (Treat others the way you d like to be treated) 2. Keep all electronic devices, headphones, etc. out of sight or they will be taken away. School policies and discipline will be in affect. 3. Do your own work! (Cheating results in a grade F on the assignment or test on the first offence, second offence will result in a grade F in the class, which will require re-taking the class. 4. Stay in assigned seat at all times unless the instructor announces that students may sit where they want. (This usually only happens during individual class work times)

5. Do not leave garbage on the floor or anywhere else. 6. Do not misuse classroom items such as computers, teacher s items, etc. Discipline Any or a multiple of the following can and will be used for students who choose to be uncooperative and not follow school wide policies and classroom rules. 1.
