GUIZHOU UNIVERSITY Brochure for Prospective International Students A Centennial University Extensive International Exchange and Cooperation Comprehensive Curriculum and Excellent Faculty Programs for International Students A Centennial University Founded in 1902, Guizhou University (hereinafter as GZU), with the motto of Illustrious virtue, utmost goodness, extensive learning and earnest practice, is persistently committed to be a leading university with regional characteristics that cherishes high quality education as the fundamental and serves the economic and social development of Guizhou Province and southwest China.
GZU is a key "211 Project" university co-built by the Ministry of Education of the People s Republic of China and the People s Government of Guizhou Province; in 2012, it was listed as one of the 14 member universities of the Middle and Western China Comprehensive Strength Improvement Project. With 33 colleges under its administration, GZU offers 136 bachelor s programs, 252 master s programs and 55 doctoral programs, covering 11 branches of learning including philosophy, economics, laws, liberal arts, history, education, science, engineering, agriculture, administration, and art. At present, GZU has 55,121 full-time students and 4,003 faculty and staff members, and 2714 of them are full-time faculty members. Extensive International Exchange and Cooperation GZU vigorously develops international cooperation and exchange. So far, it has established cooperative and exchange relations with more than 140 academic institutions in over 40 countries and regions. Nearly 500 international students from over 30 countries or regions registered in GZU in for long or short term studies in 2014. GZU established Guizhou s first Confucius Institute in Presbyterian College, U.S. in 2009; since 2008, it has successfully hosted or co-hosted seven sessions of China-ASEAN Educational Cooperation Week. GZU a Demonstration Base for Cultivating Foreign Students authorized by the Ministry of Education, a Base of International Cooperation in Science and Technology authorized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, a Center for ASEAN Studies, an ASEAN Students Service center, an institution offering Chinese Government Scholarship, Confucius Institute Scholarship, Guizhou Provincial Scholarship and Guizhou University Scholarship for international students. GZU also plays active roles in IAUP, AUAP, AUN and other international organizations.
Comprehensive Curriculum and Excellent Faculty GZU has been accepting international students since the 1980s. The College of International Education (hereinafter as CIE) of GZU boasts a team of highly skillful and experienced teachers and an efficient course system. CIE offers structured Chinese language courses and various characteristic culture courses to international students at beginner, basic, intermediate and advanced levels. Besides, the College organizes regular extracurricular activities to immerse international students in Chinese culture and Guizhou ethnic minority cultures. The Chinese courses designed by CIE enable the international students to access the many top-notch degree programs offered by the University. Optional courses are subject to adjustments each semester. Recreational and sports activities are held at least once each month and international students are also offered opportunities to participate for free in special cultural excursions at least once each semester.
Application & Admission The applicants shall apply to us directly by submitting the following application materials (completed in English or Chinese): Guizhou University Application Form Valid passport front-page photocopy CV or resume (2-inch photo attached) Notarized highest diploma photocopy Foreigner physical examination record Sponsorship certificate (certificate of deposit, RMB20,000 per year or equivalent) Students attending degree programs also need to provide: i. For undergraduate: a recommendation letter by an associate professor or above, senior high school transcripts and a study plan. For master s student: recommendation letters by two associate professors or above, transcripts for the bachelor s degree and a study plan. Copies of published academic papers or research achievements, if any, are encouraged. For doctoral student: recommendation letters by one professor and one associate professor or above, transcripts for the master s degree, the abstract of the master s thesis, and a study plan. Copies of published academic papers or research achievements, if any, are encouraged. ii. HSK Score Report (students without the Score Report shall take an one-year elementary Chinese study until passing the required HSK test) Note: Application for degree programs is open until June 30 every year; application for Chinese Language and Culture Program is open until June 30 for the fall semester and until November 30 for the spring semester. The applicants need to send the application documents by post or by e-mail to us before the deadline to initiate an application. College of International Education will send the JW202 Visa Application Form, Acceptance Letter and other enrollment papers to the admitted students 2 months after successful applications. The accepted students shall apply for an X1 or X2 Student Visa for entry with the JW202 Form. Registration 1. The admitted students shall register on time in person at College of International Education with the originals of Letter of Acceptance, Foreigner Physical Examination Form and other application documents; 2. After registration, the students shall hold the Foreigner Physical Examination Form and all attached reports to Guizhou Quarantine Bureau for health verification; 3. Office for International Relations and College of International Education shall assist the students to apply for residence permit, bank card, campus E-card, etc.
Accommodation International Students Dorm Buildings are equipped with showers, bathrooms, refrigerators, heating appliances, and public laundry facilities. The accommodation fees are: 1. RMB500 per person per month for accommodation in a double or triple suite (separate bedrooms with shared living room and bathroom) 2. RMB600 per month for a standard single room A (with private bathroom) 3. RMB800 per month for a standard single room B (with private bathroom and kitchen) Food, Insurance & Medical Care Four cafeterias (including a halal canteen) are open to international students on campus (about RMB10 for each meal). Besides, various Chinese restaurants and western-style fast food restaurants are situated nearby the campus. Scholarship students enjoy free medical insurance. Self-sponsored students shall purchase medical insurance in China as required. Medical services are offered at the University infirmary and at Huaxi Hospital, both of which are only a few blocks from the student housing. A Glimpse of Guizhou Guizhou University is located in Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou Province and a major city in southwestern China. Guiyang is dubbed a shinning pearl on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. With an average altitude of 1,000 meters, the City is known for its agreeable warm winter and cool summer, with the summer temperature hovering between 19 to 26 degrees Celsius. The Karst landscapes account for more than 85% of the total area of the City, characterizing spectacular scenes of peak clusters, canyons, valleys and caves. The 41.78% high forest coverage makes Guiyang the first National Forest City and the Natural Oxygen Bar of China. Seventeen long-dwelling ethnic minorities including Miao, Bouyei and Gelao have been co-prospering here in harmony, forming a magnificent view of multifarious blooming ethnic cultures.
