1 2016 Master s Program in Environmental Engineering in Suzhou University of Science and Technology Part I. About the Program Program Objectives This program is open to fresh university graduates as well as the experienced professionals and the government officials from different countries, and is designed to train those students in the field of Environmental Science and Management or Environmental Engineering and Technology. Students are expected to complete the program full time over 2 years. The aim of the program is to; - provide students with an opportunity to develop functional expertise, strategic perspectives that they require to operate effectively in a changing environment or to understand such an environment. - teach students with Pollution Control Technology, Ecological Engineering and Environmental Monitoring or Planning tools. - help students to learn both the successes and failures in China's environmental management and Engineering in China, and therefore to understand more about how to manage environmental development challenges in developing countries. - introduce students to the techniques of analysis and program evaluation to resolve complex multi-dimensional environmental challenges, as well as sharpen their leadership and communication skills. Program Mode / Structure Instruction:

2 The language of instruction is English. Classes will incorporate a mix of lectures, seminars, case discussions, tutorials, presentations and so on. Upon application, students could also choose some courses taught in Chinese. If there are fewer than ten students, a course will not be delivered. Master s Thesis Students are expected to bring specific research questions concerning public policy and management to the program, as a part of thesis research preparation. Towards the end of the first semester, a number of faculty members from the school will be invited as potential thesis supervisors, and the school will make arrangement for students to choose their supervisors. The thesis is expected to combine theoretical perspectives, analytic skills and practical experiences of environmental science and engineering, and aiming at solving practical problems. Students must pass the oral exam for the thesis. Degree Requirements Students are required to successfully complete 40 credit-worth course work and a master s thesis and thesis defense within the required time period. After meeting the above requirements and with the approval of University Degree Committee, the master s degree in Environmental Engineering in Environmental Science and Engineering School will be awarded.

4 Part II. Application and Admissions Application Prerequisites All applicants must meet the following entrance requirements: 1. Applicants must be non-chinese citizens with a valid passport, abide by laws, decrees and rules, regulations of People s Republic of China and Suzhou University of Science and Technology; 2. Applicants must have attained a Bachelor s degree or above, with a higher level of English language proficiency, under the age of 45, and also meet the professional requirements of the university which applicants applied for; 3. Applicants who are not native English speakers or whose undergraduate education was not in English are required to take an appropriate English Language Test and provide supporting documents; 4. The candidates must be healthy and obtain a medical form from their respective embassies and undergo all the medical tests stipulated therein. Applicants must report to University with all the test certificates and any other test material provided by a reputable physician. They must not have any disease or situation listed below: a) Diseases prohibited by Chinese Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Laws and Regulations b) Other severe chronic diseases like high blood pressure, cardio-cerebrovascular disease, diabetes; psychological diseases; or other infectious diseases which may harm public health c) In recovery period after major surgery or acute disease attacks d) Severe physically challenged e) Pregnancy 5. STEP 2: Send E-copies of All Application Materials to Suzhou University of Science and Technology Applicants are required to send the soft copies of their application materials by to ylsong@mail.usts.edu.cn or fax ( ) Note: After being accepted, applicants are required to bring the hard copies of all application materials (including all physical examination results) to School of Engineering, Suzhou University of Science and Technology at the time of registration. STEP 3: Online Application After being surely accepted, Applicants are required to visit online application system of Chinese Scholarship Council at Select the program named Chinese Government Scholarship and finish online application. Note: Only if you finish this online application, can you finally receive the formal Admission Notification from Suzhou University of Science and Technology. Please make a detailed statement from the perspectives of your academic background, work/research experience and achievements, research proposal, future career plans and intentions, etc CV In English Recommendation letters 1. The referees can be professors or government officials from central or local government authorities The recommendation letters must be original documents either in Chinese or English. 6 Copies of English language proficiency test results Applicants who are not native English speakers or whose undergraduate education was not in English should provide English language proficiency test results Photocopy of valid passport The passport type must be ordinary. 7 Scholarship / Tuition Fee The admitted students will be financially supported by the Chinese Government. The scholarship will cover the following: 1. Tuition fee (paid by the Chinese government) 2. Monthly stipend, sufficient for the student s stay in China 3. One-time relocation Allowance 4. Seminar, Field Study, Academic Practice (accommodation, transportation, travel insurance) 5.
