Lucent Technologies APX 1000 Universal Gateway The Universal Port Standard Universal Gateways enable telecommunication carriers to support several of the most popular telecommunication services including dialup modem and voice services. Carriers are able to sustain a competitive advantage by utilizing a converged network for both, voice and data networks, which reduces their operating expenses while delivering a complete feature set. Beyond worldwide homologation and NEBS III compliance, the APX 1000 offers production quality TAOS software along with innovative hardware designs for hot swappable cards and fan tray. Integration with NavisAccess provides network management above the traditional fault monitoring and alarming systems. The APX 1000 leverages Lucent s experience in the universal gateway arena, as it is easy to operate and scales to fit into various capacity requirements. The APX 1000 supports a complete suite of services that can be integrated with call control and SS7. Lucent Technologies has shipped over 20 million ports of gateway products to carriers. These gateways are in production networks in major customer networks throughout the world. The APX 1000 has the feature sets defined by major carriers. The size and density of the APX 1000 makes it ideal for both small and large POP s. A single APX 1000 supports 672/720 channels of T1/E1. In a 7-foot rack, the APX 1000 supports 10,080/10,800 universal ports in a T1/E1 stack and rack configuration.

The APX 1000 uses multiple processors to deliver the highest throughput to support Universal Port requirement, increased customer satisfaction, and lower cost of ownership. Voice services such as TDM switching, calling card, 1+ Long Distance applications are supported along with next generation applications using PC clients, Unified Messaging Servers and Conferencing Servers. The APX 1000 supports softswitch controlled VoIP using SS7 trunks. The APX 1000 architecture supports the leading call control protocols including H.323, IPDC, H.248* and SIP* (* future support). This includes the ability to support SS7 integration for services like Internet Call Diversion or voice based 1+ Long Distance applications. SS7 call control relieves PSTN congestion and lowers recurring costs. Delivering a New Class of Design and Performance The APX 1000 delivers Service Providers a highly scalable solution allowing them to implement next generation, converged data and voice networks. The APX 1000 delivers the highest throughput and the most Universal Ports per 7-foot rack. Every port is Universal and handles data or voice traffic, all 672 (T1) / 720 (E1) ports can be voice, data or a dynamically defined mix of both, enhances network s revenue generating capabilities, offering the most revenue generating service per rack In a 7-foot rack, the APX 1000 supports 10,080/10,800 universal ports in a T1/E1 stack and rack configuration. Superior Design and Performance Features Non-Blocking performance with full DS3 capacity or 24 E1 lines Multiple processor design delivers highest throughput Fully redundant and load balancing power supplies with shelf controller monitoring Hot swappable and redundant fan tray with SNMP management support for fan fail signal for each fan Fan speed control, low acoustic noise and high MTBF values V.92/V.44 modem standard offers the fastest dial-up and highest quality VoIP capabilities over an Internet connection TAOS Software This industry-leading operating system currently powers nearly half of all service provider-deployed remote access and VoIP ports worldwide.

TAOS offers the broadest range of access services and protocols available in the industry. Fully integrated capabilities allow the APX 1000 to seamlessly integrate with multiple diverse networks and technology types, including data, voice, IP, VoIP, ATM, SS7, frame relay, and ISDN. The industry s most feature-rich and Internet-proven software implementation TAOS is powering more than 20 million dial-up ports worldwide APX 1000 Network Management NavisAccess 6.0 software from Lucent Technologies provides groundbreaking management capabilities that enable service providers to manage up to 500,000 ports at a service level, not just at a physical device level. This allows a service provider to move well beyond the traditional monitoring of port usage at the device level to the more advanced, discrete monitoring of usage by supporting Service level management for specific customers or usage by specific services rendered. Virtual Private Networking (VPN) The APX 1000 provides a robust and flexible VPN solution operating at the edge of a service provider data/ip network. Supporting VPN encapsulation functionality using standard, market-proven protocols such as L2TP, PPTP, ATMP, virtual routing and IP in IP. multiple revenue generating services and application on an IP network. Telecommunications carriers have purchased over one million ports of Lucent s Universal Gateways that support VoIP. Lucent s Universal Gateway are installed in many of the world s largest carriers and the VoIP feature set is marketed under the MultiVoice product name. The MultiVoice VoIP feature currently supports H.323 and IPDC with future support of SIP and H.248 control protocols in SS7 and non-ss7 environments. Lucent s Voice-over-IP (VoIP) product line offers the following solutions: Data congestion relief including Internet Call Diversion and PRI offload Single Stage 1+ Long Distance and Wholesale Toll Tandem replacement Dual Stage Prepaid and Postpaid Calling Cards applications PC-to-Phone, Conferencing, and Unified Messaging Applications Single-stage pre-subscribed 1+ long distance dialing Single-stage 1010 dial-around long distance Voice-Over-IP Lucent Technologies MultiVoice VoIP solutions are based on the Lucent Technologies award winning Universal Gateway the MAX 6000, MAX TNT, and APX 8000. These Universal Gateways allow service providers to address all market segments, consumer, business and wholesale, enabling
