About Noongar Radio Noongar Radio is Perth s only Indigenous radio station. It was established in 2009 to provide a strong voice and positive representation of Indigenous People in Western Australia. Noongar Radio broadcasts on 100.9 FM and through live web streaming. Noongar Radio is a not for profit Aboriginal owned and operated organisation, which is proudly governed by an all Indigenous board. The organisation is a subsidiary of 6NME Noongar Media Enterprises and owned by Peedac Pty Ltd. Peedac is a not for profit organisation that provides a range of community services including training and employment for Indigenous People and has been in operation since 1997. The association with Peedac has enabled Noongar Radio to benefit from complimentary services, experience in program delivery and strong management expertise. Noongar Radio is committed to promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Artists. Every third song aired is Indigenous and the station regularly runs special features dedicated to profiling and supporting singers, songwriters and musicians in the community. All of Noongar Radio Broadcasters are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders and our weekday presenters are all from Noongar Country. In just over two years, Noongar Radio has gone from strength to strength with the positive style of presentation and high-rotation of Indigenous music attracting a loyal following from all sectors of the community. Within its first year of operation the station was nominated for a National Deadly Award for best community broadcaster. As a community station it requires sponsorship in order to grow and thrive. Noongar Radio has big plans to build on its success and is seeking partnerships with organisations that want to help inspire and empower Indigenous people. Hey Noongar Radio, keep up the deadly work, you make us proud (Listener feedback 2013) Noongar Radio is doing a very professional job. Especially love Friday nights and the Prison Request Show. The Noongar People are Indigenous Australians from the South-West portion of Western Australia, an area roughly defined from Geraldton on the West Coast to Esperance on the South cost. Noongar People have lived in the area for at least the last 45,000 years and are one of the largest Indigenous groups in Western Australia. Our Audience Noongar Radio has a community broadcast licence covering the wider Perth metropolitan area. This area is estimated to include over 1,163,300 people above the age of 15 years. Broadcasts are also streamed live over the internet, which has generated a loyal following of listeners all over the globe. Over a third of Western Australia s indigenous population is located in Perth. Although program content is designed to appeal to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, it has been found that Noongar Radio also has a significant number of Non-Indigenous listeners. Anecdotal evidence and increased program participation suggest the number of Noongar Radio listeners has grown steadily year on year. It should be noted that the popularity of community radio in Perth is significantly higher than the national average. McNair Ingenuity research found that 37% of Perth s 15 + population listen to a community radio station in a typical week and 63% listen in an average month (2010). This research also found that the average Perth listener will tune in for an impressive 7. 4 hours in a typical week, indicating a high level of engagement and loyalty to their community radio station. My boyfriend and I are huge fans of the station and listen daily. We love the mix of music and are very happy that the owners of this land finally have their very own radio station.
