Remote Field Service Setup Getting Started Purpose: Instructions on how to install the Remote Field Service (RFS) application on GlobalEdge (GE) for Android tablets. Client Name Each customer is assigned a Client Name by Davisware. The code identifies your organization on the tablet allowing you to work with your data. Within this document the term Client Name indicates when to enter your assigned code. Below are the data values applicable to your organization. Note: If you see 99999 below it indicates that this document was not updated with your unique codes. Contact Davisware Support to obtain your codes. Your Client Name is: 99999 Davisware Live URL: IP99999 Davisware Training URL: IP99999TR Live and Training Database Davisware creates a copy of your current GE data that can be used to train staff and field technicians. When you log into RFS, you have the option to define which environment you wish to connect to Training or Live. Reference the Logging into RFS application steps in this document. Technician Setup There are several key maintenance tables that need to be built in GlobalEdge in order for a technician to utilize Remote Field Service. Employee Maintenance defining an employee record Salesperson Maintenance > Field Service tab - enable features/functionality for the technician User Maintenance create a field service user id/password for the technician Note: Reference the RFS Set up Technician for Field Service document for more instructions. Prepare the tablet Prior to installing the RFS application on the tablet, Davisware recommends the following: Install GoTo Assist Customer on the tablet using the Google Play Store. Note: This application only works with Samsung tablets. Install Adobe Reader from the Google Play Store (if it isn t already on the tablet). If you plan to use credit card swipers, download Unimag Demo 4.2 from the Google Play Store. Note: GoTo Assist Customer, Adobe Reader and Unimag Demo 4.2 are free downloads. Davisware 3
Installing RFS application Follow the directions below to install RFS on an Android tablet: 1. Verify that your tablet settings allow you to install Unknown Sources a. Select the Settings icon from the Apps page. b. Select Security. c. Under Device administration, select the Unknown sources checkbox. 2. Open a web browser and type in the following web address: www.davisware.com/updates. 3. Click the Global Field Service for Android tablet 4.2 or higher link. Result: The download appears in the upper menu bar. 4. Open the Downloads icon. 5. Select the rfstablet.apk download and follow the instructions. 6. The installation will prompt you for your Client Name. Reference the information noted earlier in this document. 7. When prompted, select GE as the Application Type. 8. Select the Package Installer installation and then select just once. Result: Once the installation completes, you will see the Remote Field Service application on your tablet s Apps page. Logging into RFS application Initial setup The first time you log into the RFS application, you will need to enter data specific to you organization. Once this information is entered, it does not need to be changed unless you are switching from the Training environment to the Live environment and vice versa. At the bottom of the screen is the release date and version. This indicates the RFS version installed on the tablet. To begin: 1. Select the Update URL checkbox to display the environment page. 2. The system prompts you for a password. Enter rfs. Result: The Enter New URL page displays. Davisware 4
3. Select the Delete DB checkbox to clear the current database. This will not physically delete your database. Only use this feature when switching between database environments. 4. Enter GE for the application type. 5. Enter your IP address*. For example: Live = IP address:port#/fswebservice Train = IP address:port#/fswebservicetr In this case, the training URL is 123.1.123.12:8899/FSwebserviceTR. Notice the only difference in the addresses is the TR at the end for training. 6. Enter your Client Name*. 7. Click OK when done. Result: The tablet connects to your server and the RFS login page reappears. *Reference page 1 of this document for information specific to your organization. Caution: If for some reason your IT staff changes the IP address for your server, you will need to replace the IP address above with the new one. The IP address is the numbers that proceed the :8899 above. Note: Once this data is entered, you do not have to perform these steps again unless you are going to change from training to live or vice versa. Log in From the RFS login page, enter your User ID and Password and then select Connect. Note: The user ID needs to be setup in GE User Maintenance as User Type Field Service or Both (GE and Field Service). Also the Salesperson linked to the User s record needs to have its settings defined in Salesperson Maintenance Field Service tab. Upgrading RFS application to a new version At times, new version releases are published for the Remote Field Service application. Davisware will notify you when a new release is distributed. At that time, you will need to perform the following steps for each Android tablet in the field: 1. If already in RFS, exit the application and go back to the tablet s home screen. Davisware 5
2. Open Remote Field Services on the tablet. Result: The new version automatically installs. The tablet is now on the current release version and date. 3. Return to the RFS login screen and log in. Uninstalling Remote Field Service application At times, you may want to delete the Remote Field Service application from the Android tablet. Below are the steps to perform this task. 1. Select Settings from the Apps screen. 2. Select the Application Manager option. 3. Find Remote Field Service, click it and select Uninstall. 4. Exit out. 5. Select My Files from the Apps screen. 6. Find the Davisware folder and select the check box. 7. Select Delete. Result: All traces of RFS has been removed from the tablet. Davisware 6
