Globarange Phones and joip Service How does the Globarange phone work? How is Globarange different from a conventional phone? It's like a conventional phone that also lets you simultaneously use an IP phone line. It has a full range of telephone features. How is Globarange different from other IP phones (like Vonage TM or Skype TM )? You can continue to use a conventional telephone landline. Set-up is extremely easy. International calls between Globarange phones are free for the first 3 years. You do not need to install software.. Unlike other internet phones, there's no need for a contract Vonage and Skype are trademarks of their respective companies. Who is the service provider, and what is the calling plan? The service will be provided by joip, a division of deltathree Inc. Please visit www.joip.com for complete information on all calling plans. How does the joip system work from a technical perspective? When you make calls with joip, a type of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service, your voice will be sent to their destination over the Internet as data packets where they re converted back into voice. Basically, you can make Internet calls using the joip service in virtually the same way as using a landline, but unlike other VoIP services, the setup is simpler and a computer isn't needed.
joip Accounts What is a joip number? A joip number consists of the Pound Sign (#) followed by 10 digits. It lets you make and receive free calls to and from other joip number owners. The joip number does not involve extra charges and is given free to Panasonic Globarange phone owners for 3 years from the date of setup. How do I get my joip number? After the installation is complete, the unit is automatically registered to the joip service and you receive your number. It s displayed on the handset 1 (included with the base unit). You can also view the joip number by the following procedure on the handset: 1. Press Menu 2. Press [#] [1] [0] [3] It will then display your joip number, and if you have a Registered Service (paid service plan), it will then show your second phone number as well. These instructions can also be found on pg 29 of the Globarange manual. How do I get a second phone number from joip? You have to subscribe to one of joip's Registered Service plans. Details are found on the joip website - www.joip.com How would I know if someone else has a Globarange phone or phone number? joip has a feature called Community Directory, where you can search online for your joip friends and add them to your phonebook or make a web-based joip call to reach them. This feature is free. For more details, visit www.joip.com Can I have 2 Globarange base units for one joip account? We recommend installing only one Panasonic Globarange phone base unit. If you install more than one joip system with one account, you may not be able to make or receive internet calls properly. However, each Panasonic Globarange base is capable of having 8 handsets. Additional handsets can be bought separately as accessories and have to be registered to the base by following a simple procedure included in the operating manual. What happens to the free service after you use the phone for three years? You need to subscribe to the joip service. Currently the plan will cost $1.99 per month. Even if you select the IP line, the conventional landline is automatically used when dialing emergency phone numbers, such as 911. NOTE: The phone must be connected to a LANDLINE in order to dial emergency numbers. If you want to make 911 calls using the joip line, a Registered Service is required. Setup What kind of equipment do I need to make joip calls? You need a router with an open LAN port and a broadband (DSL, Cable, Satellite) connection with a modem. Your network must meet the following technical specifications for the unit to work with joip: (1) Broadband Internet connection such as DSL or cable (2) Modem Broadband modem with Ethernet port (USB-only modems are not supported.) (3) Broadband router *1, 2 *1 This unit is not compatible with the following: PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol) If your Internet service provider uses a PPPoE, PPTP, or L2TP connection, a compatible router is required. *2 We recommend using a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server. How do I know if the Globarange phone will work with my broadband service? Globarange is compatible with all residential broadband network services. The Globarange phone is designed to install simply within a few minutes without having to change settings to your network, though may be times when such changes to the network are necessary. Please see the product user guide for complete information on set up and installation. Can you connect the Globarange phone using a wireless router? If you're using a wireless router, a wireless access point is needed. The phone's Ethernet cable will plug into it, and the wireless access point will then connect to the router. Panasonic also recommends using our HD-PLC technology which lets you send your broadband signals through your AC power wires. Please go to www.panasonic.com/netcam to learn more about HD-PLC. Can you still use Globarange if you're not connected to the Internet? In that case you will only be able to use it as a regular cordless phone by connecting to a conventional landline. Can you still use Globarange without plugging the phone into a landline? Yes, but you can only make free calls to other joip users. In order to make/receive calls to and from other landlines/cellular lines, you would have to subscribe to a joip service plan. I'm currently using two landlines. Can I simply switch them over? You can only use one landline on the Globarange phone. The second line is reserved for joip. How do I set up the phone at home? 1. Plug the included telephone line cord into the TEL port on the base unit and the other end to the telephone line jack, to connect the phone to the landline. 2. Connect the included Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the base unit and unused Ethernet (LAN) port on your router or modem with a built-in router, to connect the phone to the Internet. 3. Connect the included AC adaptor to the base unit by pushing the plug firmly, then the other end into the power outlet. (continued)
4. To use the joip IP line, read the Terms of Use for the joip services on the included leaflet or at www.joip.com, then Press [YES] on the Handset. 5. Wait until the STATUS indicator turns green. 6. Confirm your joip number. (It will appear on the handset screen) 7. Wait for a joip text message for the joip website password (www.joip.com). OPERATION How do I make calls? Using the Handset: 1. Dial the phone number 2. To make a landline call, press [TEL] To make a joip internet call, press [IP] 3. When finished talking, press [OFF] Using the Base unit: (available for Model BBGT1540) 1. To make a landline call, press [TEL] To make a joip call, press [IP] 2. Dial the phone number 3. When the other party answers, speak into the mic. 4. Press [Sp-Phone] when done. Can I make/receive calls to and from landlines or other VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) lines on the IP-Phone? You have to subscribe to a Registered Service in order to make and receive calls to and from landlines or other VoIP lines. Once you have it, you will be given a 2nd joip
number that is similar to a regular phone number. Please visit www.joip.com for prices and plan options. Can I send and receive joip text messages? How? You can send and receive text messages from other joip users. In order to have this feature, you must log in at www.joip.com and you must have a Registered Service. How do I make joip calls using my cell phone or another landline? You can remotely call your Globarange phone from a cell phone or another landline and make a joip call: 1. Dial the phone number you were given when you subscribed at www.joip.com 2. After the greeting message starts, enter the remote code (default: 111) of the answering machine 3. Dial [#][9] 4. After the dial tone sounds, dial the phone number you want to call 5. When you finish talking, hang up Can I use 2 handsets to make different joip and landline calls at the same time? Yes you can use the internet and the landlines at the same time for different calls. The 5.8Ghz Globarange phone supports up to 8 handsets. (US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia) Can I conference between the internet line and the land line? Yes. When a call is received on the other line during a conversation, the interrupt tones will sound. You can answer the second call while holding the first call. You can also combine the landline call and the internet call to make a conference call as follows: 1. Press [HOLD] two times to put the first call (landline) on hold. 2. Press [IP] to make or answer the second call. - To hold the second call, press[hold] two times. 3. To hang up the second call and return to the first (landline): - Press [TEL]. To Make A Conference Call: 1. Press [CONF]. - To hang up only one line, press [TEL] or [IP] for the party with which you want to continue talking. - To put both parties on hold, press [HOLD]. To talk with only one caller, press [TEL] or [IP] for the party with which you want to continue talking. To resume both lines, press [CONF]. Does the answering machine for Model BBGT1540 have separate greeting messages for each line? Yes or you can use one message for both lines or set a different one for each. Can I use the joip line to send faxes? It is recommended that you use a landline for sending and receiving faxes.
The GT1500 does not have an answering machine. Can I use the joip service for this instead? Yes www.joip.com does offer an advanced internet answering machine capability that is accessible from your joip line. For this, you need to subscribe to a Registered Service.
