As a SBO it is vital that you understand and use advanced technologies to manage your operations. Technology can help increase business efficiency, effectiveness and improve organization. This session will discuss the technology and tools available to SBO to help automate the business process. Topics to include print solutions, e payments/receipts, fixed assets and other tech tools. Current Issues in Payroll/Personnel Topics to include an Affordable Care Act reporting update, the reporting for the Truth in Salary Act, an update from the Retirement Systems of Alabama on employee benefits and reporting requirements for the Department of Industrial Relations. This course will include a review of the financial, as well as the program requirements for each federal program allocation Key topics will include E-Gap, Maintenance of Effort and Indirect Cost. NextGen Software Update for Payroll /Personnel Session will review the latest updates in the NextGen software for payroll/personnel. Topics will include calendar year end reporting and other annual reporting requirements. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 9:00 a.m. 12:30 p.m. (Choose One) Current Issues- Legislative and Federal Issues Update This session will review the 2015 enacted legislation, an update on the Affordable Care Act reporting, GASB 68 disclosure as well as other federal and state issues. Employment Legal Issues Payroll/Personnel Core Course and Continuing Education Course This course is designed for all school business officials including CSFOs, HR managers, payroll personnel and others involved in the employment process. This session will focus on current issues in employment law, both state and federal issues. Topics will include issues related tenure law, salary schedule issues, wage and hour, dual employment, transfers, suspensions, reduction in force policies, staffing contracts and other current issues related to employment. 12:30-1:30 p.m. LUNCH ON YOUR OWN
1:30 p.m. 5:00 p.m. (Choose One) Developing Financial Policies and Procedures The session will discuss the development of a policy and procedure manual for school district. Topics to include policy vs procedure, required board policies, required financial procedures, vendor contracts and other recommended policies and procedures for school districts: Accounting System and Personnel Reporting Payroll/Personnel Core Course and Continuing Education Course Course provides an overview of payroll coding and the effect on state funding. A review of the accounting manual with focus on the coding component for personnel, monitoring the personnel budget, and monthly edit checks. Course will also review the reports and controls in the payroll software to streamline the process. Session will also include teacher certification and in-depth review of the LEAPS reporting for school districts Session will cover all aspects of the reporting requirements and the conversion to funding allocations for the local district through the foundation program, including the importance of proper coding, certification and experience reporting.
