THE TRANSFORMATION OF ABU DHABI In three short decades the Emirate-City of Abu Dhabi has evolved into a dynamic, sophisticated and increasingly cosmopolitan centre of global significance, sitting at the crossroads of three continents and in the heart of the West-East Corridor. Under the guidance of Vision 2030, Abu Dhabi is rapidly emerging as a hub for commerce and culture and serves as a model for transformation, demonstrating what can be achieved with vision, leadership and values. The direction is clear: Abu Dhabi is creating a stronger more diversified economy, open and accessible to global business, with centres of excellence in technology, culture and renewable energy, and driven by a highly skilled work force. We see evidence of this in Masdar, a bold, pioneering initiative which aims to create a carbon neutral city; Etihad Airways one of the world s fastest growing international airlines; world-class infrastructure projects such as the mould-breaking Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit on Yas Island; the new performing arts centre and three new museums, including regional galleries of the Guggenheim and Louvre. The emergence of Abu Dhabi has also been the inspiration behind our drive at NBAD to create a truly world class bank. 27

28 THE FUTURE starts here

SUSTAINABLE TRANSFORMATION We are focused on ensuring that whatever we do today builds a brighter future for our customers, investors, stakeholders, communities and of course our people. This means we are constantly assessing risks, identifying opportunities and considering how global realities will affect our products and services. It also means an unswerving commitment to honesty, fairness and transparency in all our dealings; accessibility and responsiveness to the communities where we do business; and the management of our businesses in ways that minimise our impact on the environment. Our aspiration of becoming the World s Best Arab Bank is not a short term goal but one guided by a vision anchored in sustainable business practices designed to make the world a better place for the generations who follow. Transformation of our Future Leadership Integral to sustainability is our commitment to identifying and nurturing the talent of Emiratis as the next generation of leaders in the UAE.
