3 About the Program Buhooth is an ambitious program that aims to achieve the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan of transforming the UAE into a Center of Excellence in Engineering and Science Research. The program offers Master and Doctorate scholarships for UAE Nationals. The program encourages and promotes graduate studies and research in the UAE; and seeks to graduate UAE nationals with specialized skills to benefit UAE institutions. Graduates will support nationalization across all sectors, including higher education. Additionally, the program will establish and promote research collaboration between academia and industry; and, provide means for know-how and technology transfer to the country. Under this program, students will be registered in selected Master and Doctorate programs offered by Khalifa University or top international universities. Benefits An attractive monthly stipend. Khalifa University offers its graduate students several comprehensive scholarships that aim to provide recipients with all necessary educational expenses and the potential to also earn attractive monthly salaries. The Buhooth scholarship and waived fees are available to all UAE Nationals and expatriates may be eligible for a position as a teaching assistant. Payment of all tuition fees. 4 Types of Scholarships There are two types of scholarships: 1) International Buhooth: This scholarship will provide an opportunity for candidates to pursue Master and Doctorate studies at top international universities. The scholarship will be open for selected majors only, as decided by Khalifa University. The scholarship will be offered to a limited number of candidates per year and is therefore very highly competitive. A candidate holding a Bachelor degree will sign a contract committing to complete both Master and Doctorate studies and then accept employment in a suitable post for a period of time which is at least equal to the study period. A candidate holding a Master degree will sign a contract committing to complete Doctorate studies and then accept employment in a suitable post for a period of time which is at least equal to the study period. The total salary* for this scheme is as follows: - During MSc AED 39,000 AED 37,000 2) UAE-Based Buhooth: This scholarship will provide an opportunity for candidates to pursue Master and Doctorate studies at Khalifa University The scholarship will be open for selected majors only as decided by Khalifa University A candidate holding a Bachelor degree will sign a contract committing to complete Master studies at Khalifa University. No work commitment is required after graduation. A candidate holding a Master degree will sign a contract committing to complete Doctorate studies at Khalifa University. No work commitment is required after graduation. The monthly stipend for this scheme is as follows: - During MSc Eligibility AED 34,000 AED 32,000 - During PhD AED 42,000 AED 39,000 - During PhD Applicants must be UAE nationals. Applicants must satisfy the admission requirements of the academic program that they are applying to. PAGE 4 AED 47,000 AED 44,000 * The above amounts include an AED 5,000 per month that is paid as an additional allowance while the student is outside the UAE Candidates will also be eligible for a performance-based reward scheme with a total value of up to AED 135,000 for Master studies and up to AED 300,000 for Doctorate studies. Candidates on this scholarship are placed on an employment contract and are therefore registered on the Abu Dhabi Retirement Pensions and Benefits Fund during the period of study. Candidates on this scholarship are eligible for medical nsurance for self, spouse and dependent children. Candidates on this scholarship are eligible for yearly tickets for self, spouse and dependent children To be eligible to apply, the following minimum requirements are required: - For Doctorate scholarships, applicants must have a Master degree, whereas for Master scholarships, applicants must have a Bachelor degree. - The applicant s degree must be from a recognized institution with a minimum C.G.P.A of 3.0 out of 4.0 in a relevant specialization (as specified by the academic program applied to). - Applicants must have achieved a minimum level of proficiency in English in the form of an ibt score of 79 or an IELTS score of Applicants must submit an official GRE (Graduate Record Examination) score. The GRE General Test is required. The above are minimum requirements only. In order to be competitive, applicants must have much higher credentials particularly for International Buhooth. PAGE 5

5 Khalifa University has Teaching Assistant Scholarships to help qualified non-uae national students enroll on graduate programs at Khalifa University. The scholarships have generous remuneration and benefits that include: Khalifa University offers this scholarship to help employed UAE nationals to enroll on its graduate programs on part-time basis. 6 ETIC is a jointly established research and innovation center by Emirates Advanced Research and Technology Holding (EARTH) and Khalifa University. The center is located at the Abu Dhabi Campus of Khalifa University with management and research staff from both founding partners. Through collaboration between industry and academia, ETIC aims to become a driving force for innovation in the field of computeraided technologies and other selective-system technologies in the region and beyond. EARTH is a limited liability company, established on 28 July 2008, to provide R&D services as well as sophisticated technical equipment to government and private organizations. EARTH/ETIC offers an opportunity to combine academic and career growth at the same time. All candidates will be placed on employment contract: years of study will be counted as experience (registration with pension fund & Ministry of Labor) with full entitlement of Compensation & Benefits as per company grading system. While completing a M.S. & Ph.D., candidates will be working on company projects, which will allow them to transfer their study and researches to actual projects. Candidates will sign a contract committing to complete the Masters and Doctorate and to work for equivalent period after the graduation. - Salaries During MSc AED 36,000 During PhD AED 38,000 - Additional Compensation & Benefits Yearly Vacation Allowance (equal to one basic salary). Education Allowance: per year, per dependent child, for maximum 3 children (as per EARTH policy & procedure). Yearly Increment. Yearly Bonus.
