Jindal Global University (JGU) and Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA) JGU is a non-profit university recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and established by the Haryana Private Universities (Second Amendment) Act, 2009, in Sonipat, Haryana (National Capital Region of Delhi). The mission of JGU is to promote globally oriented learning and research in the social sciences. JGU strives to be a world class centre for inter-disciplinary knowledge, the first of its kind in India. It has five schools: Jindal School of International Affairs; Jindal Global Law School; Jindal Global Business School; Jindal School of Government and Public Policy; Jindal School of Liberal Arts & Humanities. JSIA is India s first global policy school. JSIA offers a 2-year Masters degree in Diplomacy, Law and Business - M.A. (DLB). The M.A. (DLB) has been designed as India s first inter-disciplinary social science degree that trains students for international careers and advanced learning in world affairs. Curriculum and Pedagogy The M.A. (DLB) degree requires the completion of 48 credits over 4 semesters. Fully wireless campus with high-tech classrooms and modern halls of residence. All students are required to take 4 mandatory courses covering the fields of international relations, international economics, international law, and research methods. Upon completion of the mandatory courses, students may choose from a wide range of elective courses offered by the Schools of International Affairs (JSIA), Law (JGLS), Business (JGBS), and Public Policy (JSGP) at the JGU. In the final semester, students also have the option of completing a dissertation; the dissertation is worth 12 credits and can be done instead of elective courses of the same credit value. Students are also required to complete a Guided Internship Programme between semesters 2 & 3. JSIA has a dedicated team of faculty and staff to assist students with obtaining internships, in both India and abroad, as per student preferences and interests. Foreign Language training is an essential requirement, and language classes are on offer through the duration of the programme. Students have the option of choosing among Mandarin (Chinese), French, Spanish and Arabic. The typical format for a class at JSIA is a discussion based seminar on the principle of student-centered teaching. Students are encouraged to engage in critical thinking and lively debate, to draw links between theory, history & current affairs and to become better aware of the relationship between power, politics, business, law and justice. Programme Modes The M.A. (DLB) is offered in two modes: Residential: It is an on-campus full-time, five days a week degree programme. Non-Residential: It is a degree programme with classes held only on Saturdays and Sundays. Students are often working professionals from foreign diplomatic missions, print and electronic news media houses, corporations and non-governmental organisations, among others. Its inaugural edition was published in 2011, followed by a European edition in 2012, and a Political Violence edition in 2013. Careers for M.A. (DLB) Students A Career Director assists students in finding the right internships in the United Nations system, intergovernmental, regional and nongovernmental organisations, financial institutions, think tanks and diplomatic missions. The curriculum of the M.A. (DLB) includes a mandatory Guided Internship requirement that prepares students for careers in the multiple opportunities afforded by ever-expanding career streams like Peace and Conflict Resolution, Area Studies Experts, Political Journalism, International Justice, International Economic Development, Humanitarian Relief, Human Rights Advocacy, Political and Economic Risk Analysis etc. Graduates of JSIA go on to become versatile international affairs professionals. The MA course offers one different perspectives on international relations as one interacts with many different people from all across the world. Admission Procedure Applicants to the M.A. (DLB) at JSIA must hold a Bachelor s degree (B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., B.E., B.Tech., B.B.A., LL.B., M.B.B.S., etc.) from any recognised university. Students completing their Bachelor s degree in 2016 can also apply. This course is open to students from all disciplines: there are no pre-requisites in terms of the courses undertaken at the Bachelor s level. There is no maximum age for applicants to the M.A. (DLB) programme. All applicants need to fill the M.A. (DLB) admissions form and pay an application fee. Both can be done through the JSIA website at www.jsia.edu.in/admissions/. Following this, entrance examinations will be held on a rolling basis starting in February 2016. The entrance exam conducted online tests students ability for critical and analytical thinking, and general knowledge of international affairs. Early applicants will receive priority in receiving scholarships. Fees Residential Programme fee: Rs. 3 lakhs per annum (unchanged in the 2nd year); Fee for Food, Accommodation and Laundry: Rs. 1.85 lakhs per annum (Subject to change in the 2nd year) Total: Rs. 4.85 lakhs per annum Refundable Security Deposit* Rs. 50,000 Non-Residential Rs. 2 lakhs per annum *A fully Refundable Security Deposit of Rs. 50,000 shall be collected at the time of admission as per University Rules. Scholarships O.P. Jindal Outstanding Merit Scholarships The top five entrance exam test scorers who enroll in the M.A. (DLB) programme will be awarded the O.P. Jindal Outstanding Merit Scholarship of variable amount. This will be based solely on performance in the entrance test. Educational Loans JGU has established tie-ups with HDFC Bank, IDBI Bank, PNB, AVANSE and SBI to facilitate educational loans to students who are admitted to the M.A. (DLB) programme. Savitri Jindal Merit-cum-Means Fellowships This fellowship is for outstanding students who may not otherwise be able to afford the full fees of the M. A. (DLB) Naveen Jindal Young Global Scholarships The aim of the scholarship, which is of variable amount, is to nurture, encourage and support young global leaders. It will be awarded on the basis of an independent selection process, which includes an assessment of the candidate s grades in her/his Bachelor s degree, extra-curricular achievements etc. Laundry Facility Haryana Domicile Meritorious Haryana domicile students qualify for fee concession to study at JSIA.
