Master s Programs Taught in English Communication University of China (CUC) is one of the key universities of Project 211 of China. Founded in 1954, CUC has been dedicated to the education of competent professionals in the media industry. It is honored as the cradle of the nation s broadcasting and television talents. Approved by Ministry of Education, CUC is offering English-taught Master s Programs since fall 2011. Those programs are designed for international students with diverse backgrounds and experiences in relevant fields. I Program Description Master s Program of Film and Television Production Combines theory study and creative practice, Master s Program of Film and Television Production provides students with an entrance to the rapidly updating field of film and television art. Students will gain from this program a basic command of production skills for fictional and documentary films, and a good understanding of the significance of different positions in film and television production. Introduced to international production concepts and the situation of contemporary China, students will thrive as advanced talents in a global context. Program Duration: 2 school years of full time studies at CUC. Language: The language of teaching and thesis writing is English. Photographic Composition (2 credits) Education Practicum and Field Work consist 2 credits. Students are required to intern at media agencies or production crews doing course-related work. Graduation Project and Thesis consist 6 credits. Each Student is required to write and direct a 30 minutes fictional film as graduation project. A thesis with theoretical significance should be written on any issue about the graduation project. Students must pass the oral defense of their thesis to obtain Master s Degree. Master s Program in New Media The Master s Program in New Media combines new media information technology with new media communication theories. Students are trained to apply cross-media, interdisciplinary, and cross-cultural skills and scientific thinking to their study. They are required to gain a solid understanding of theories and methods in the field of media and communication. The goal of this program is to train interdisciplinary talents possessing innovation awareness and capability to meet the challenges posed in the 21 st century by the new media industry. Program Duration: 2 school years of full time studies at CUC. Language: The language of teaching and thesis writing is English. Course Requirements: Courses consists of core courses and optional courses. Students are required to complete at least 20 credits of course work. CORE COURSES 1. Students are expected to bring specific research questions to the program. Thesis must demonstrate valid analytical skills, and combines theories with practical experience. Students must pass oral defense of thesis to obtain Master s Degree. Master s Program of International Journalism and Communication The Master s Program of International Journalism and Communication cultivates professionals with global vision and strategic mindset. It not only equips students with humanistic knowledge and journalism theories, but also practical skills such as news interviewing, writing, editing, filming and reporting. Graduated students will be fully competent for working in the field of International Journalism and Communication. The Major of Journalism at the School of Television and Journalism of Communication University of China is one of the best in the country. Adding to the excellent faculty team and teaching resources, renowned professionals are invited to give students instructions on their practice. Program Duration: 2 school years of full time studies at CUC. Language: The language of teaching and thesis writing is English. II Application Requirements Applicant must have Bachelor s Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field. Applicant should be under 35 years of age (include 35). For applicant whose native language is not English, English proficiency should be demonstrated by previous education background, or TOEFL or IELTS test. III Application Time and Procedures Time: From March 1 st to June 30 th Procedures: 1. Log on to the website of School of International Education of CUC http://sie.cuc.edu.cn to download and complete Application Form for Foreign Students and Warranty Letter. 2. Pay application fee of 400 CNY by wire transfer to CUC account or in person by cash or ICBC debit card. 3. Send all application materials by post, fax or email to International Students Office, School of International Education of CUC. 4. If the applicant cannot apply by him/herself, he/she can ask someone else to do it on behalf of him/her. IV Application Materials Application Form for Foreign Students and Warranty Letter. Photocopy of University Diploma (or a certificate of expected graduation), and original copy of University Transcript. Two Recommendation Letters. Photocopy of passport (front page and visa page) and residential permit if available. Two 2-inch photos with blue or white background. TOEFL or IELTS score if the applicant is not native speaker of English. TOEFL or IELTS score can be exempted if the applicant has obtained degree from educational programs using English as medium language. Other materials to demonstrate the applicants talents. Application fee of 400 CNY. If paid through wire transfer, please include a copy of bank receipt. V Admission Procedures The University will decide upon the admission based on application materials.
Letter of Admission will be sent out from July 1 st to July 30 th to applicants addresses on their application forms. Admission result will be available on the webpage of School of International Education of CUC http://sie.cuc.edu.cn/ Registration date will be in early September. Exact date is going to be confirmed by Letter of Admission. VI Accommodation After registration, admitted students can apply for dormitory at International Center in person with Letter of Admission.
