Using the Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk Once you have done the Setup installation, you are now ready to use the Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk. Windows will assign a drive letter to the USB Flash disk and you work with it just like another disk drive except you can unplug it even when the computer is turned on. Windows will also instantly remove the drive letter when the disk is safely removed. Following are some things you to need to remember. Plugging the USB Flash Disk This Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk is a USB 2.0 compliant device and is recommended that you plug it into a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port. Whenever you plug the disk into a non-hi-speed USB port, Windows will show an alert message at the taskbar telling you that it is plugged into a non-hi-speed USB hub. You can still continue to use the disk but it will run at a reduced speed. Windows will recommend you to add a Hi-Speed USB host controller to your computer to obtain maximum performance.

Note: Every time you plug in the Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk, the USB Flash Disk utility program will pop up so you can immediately enter the password and access the disk. You can disable this auto pop up function. Unplugging the USB Flash Disk To properly unplug the USB Flash Disk, you must double-click on the Unplug/Eject icon found on the right side of the taskbar to stop the device. Click on the USB Mass Storage Devices and click the Stop button to safely remove the device. You can also click first on the Display device components to the details.

Once you have safely removed the device, Windows will then show that the USB Mass Storage Device can now be safely removed.

In Windows 2000 or Windows ME, whenever you unplug the disk without safely removing it, Windows will show you a warning message that you unplug a device without stopping it and this may cause your computer to crash or lose valuable data. Also do not unplug the USB Flash disk when the read/write LED is still on. Note: Do not unplug or remove the device if the read/write LED is on or blinking. Wait for the LED to turn off before you safely remove the device.

Running the USB Flash Disk Utility Program This section provides you information on how to run the Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk Utility program. The Utility program allows you to set the password and device name as well as disk format, and partition features. Note: When AP installation completed under Win98/SE, you need to unplug and re-plug USB Flash Disk again. Follow the steps below to run the program:

1. Every time you plug in the Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk, the USB Flash Disk Utility program should pop-out. Or go to the Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk program files folder and run the USB Flash Disk Utility program. 2. The USB Flash Disk Password Check window will appear. Enter the correct password for the detected device and click OK. The USB Flash Disk Utility Menu will then appear. If you do not want to run this program, you may click the Close button. The Close button will simply close the program window. If you want to run this utility again, you need to repeat Step 1. Note: If you cleared the password using this utility program, do not enter any password and just click OK to continue using. You can disable the Auto Pop-Up on the Check Password window if you do not need to enter a password. Set Password This function allows you to set or verify the password of the Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk. If there is no password set, it will prompt you to enter a new password. Otherwise, it will prompt you to enter the current password and will verify if correct or not. Follow these steps when setting a new password: 1. On the Set Password dialog box, enter a new password and click OK. 2. A warning message will prompt you if you are sure or not. Click OK to continue.

Note: It is very important not to forget your password. Otherwise, you will need to use a special format utility that will erase both the password and data of the USB Flash Disk. Change Password This function allows you to change the password of your Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk. First it will prompt you to enter the old or existing password. Then you enter the new password. You need to confirm the new password by retyping it again. It is important that you enter the correct existing password and also to remember your new password. After you have set the password, you will be prompted likewise if you want to save the new password to a backup file. Refer to the Set Password function above.

Clear Password This function allows you to clear the password of your Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk. Just enter the old or existing password in the Clear Password dialog box. After you click OK, a dialog box will appear telling you that the password was cleared successfully. Change Device Name This function allows you to change the device name of the Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk. The device name of the USB disk is displayed on the Device List of the utility window. This is useful if you have more than one Hi-Speed USB Flash Disk inserted and want to be able to identify them all. Format This allows you to format and label the USB Flash drives. you prefer. Then click OK. 5. Click OK to continue formatting. When finished, a window message will appear telling you that format is successful. However, it is required that you unplug and re-plug the USB Flash disk afterwards to allow Windows to refresh. Use the Unplug/Eject icon on the taskbar to stop the USB device first. Note: It is important that you unplug and re-plug the formatted disk for the changes to take effect. Otherwise, Windows will still show the old data in the disk. Note: Although you can also use Windows to format the disk, it is recommended that you use the Format function here for better write performance. Partition (Boot Support) This function allows you to define the partitions you want and how big the size of each partition will be. Follow these steps: Note: This function may not work on older versions of the USB Flash Disk. A warning message will appear saying that this device does not support this function.

1. Click Partition from the Utility menu. You will see the USB Flash Disk Partition dialog box. Move the bar to decide your desired size (in MB) for the Security Storage partition. This partition can be protected by password and is hidden when the security switch if OFF and password set. You will notice that the Standard Storage partition will show the remaining size that it will be allocated. If you want to set the entire disk as a one-partition security storage drive, you just move the bar to the left and the standard storage drive will show 8MB. If you want to set the entire disk as a one-partition standard storage drive, you just move the bar to the right and the standard storage size will show the full total size. One-Partition Security Storage Disk One-Partition Standard Storage Disk 2. Once you have decided how to partition your USB Flash disk, click OK to begin.
