Statement f Purpse In rder t reduce expsure f building ccupants and maintenance persnnel t ptentially hazardus chemical, bilgical and particle cntaminants, which adversely impact air quality, health, building finishes, building systems, and the envirnment and t reduce depsitin f cntaminants in the building, Clby Cllege has established Green Husekeeping plicies and guidelines fr the campus including the New Science Building in Waterville, Maine. All Husekeeping duties are cmpleted by Clby Staff. The included Training & Implementatin prgram, Perfrmance Level Standards, and Husekeeping Plicies address the cmmitment f Clby Cllege Custdial Services t utilizing envirnmentally sund husekeeping prcedures and plicies thrugh the fllwing management principles: A cmmitment t the cntinual educatin f custdial staff Cleaning t prtect bth health and appearance Cleaning the building in an integrated manner with the knwledge that cleaning in ne area can have impacts n ther areas Prviding frequent, thrugh, regularly scheduled cleaning services Develping prcedures t address accidents fr example, air cntaminatin caused by nxius chemical reactins, spills, water leaks Minimizing human expsure t harmful cntaminants and cleaning residues Minimizing chemical and misture residue when cleaning Ensuring the safety f wrkers and building ccupants at all times Minimizing the pllutants that enter the building Dispsing f cleaning waste in envirnmentally preferable ways. Training & Implementatin Prper training ensures high levels f quality and is a primary fcus f ur rganizatin. Training is an nging prcess fr all emplyees service technicians thrugh upper management fcusing n the cnsistent quality f service and safety. Extensive rientatin and training is prvided t all new emplyees. Prduct specific training and supprting training materials prvided by manufacturer, their distributr r a third party. Initial training fr new managers is prvided under the guidance f an experienced manager. Supervisrs/managers prvided with site specific jb descriptins. Managers are trained in all aspects f quality service prvisin including prcedures/precautins assciated with service, prper dcumentatin f service, prcedures fr cnducting inspectins. Training prgrams utilize a mix f printed materials, visual media, seminars, and cnferences. Prduct Usage Guidelines Usage Training It is mandatry that prduct manufacturer, their distributr r a third party must ffer training r training materials in the prper use f the prduct. Training r training materials must include stepby step instructins fr the prper dilutin, use, and dispsal f prduct and the use f equipment. A training lg detailing dates, tpics and attendees will be maintained It is desirable that prduct training and supprt include (but nt be limited t): On-site initial training fr the prper use f prducts Onging peridic training fr prduct use Supprt phne number(s) preferably tll-free which can be called t receive instructins and assistance n prduct use Prduct Labeling The manufacturer label must state clearly and prminently that dilutin with water frm the cld tap is recmmended and shall state the recmmended level f dilutin. The manufacturer shall als include detailed instructins fr prper use and dispsal and fr the use f persnal prtective equipment. It is desirable that prducts have clr cded labels in lieu f dyes and be made with a percentage f pst-cnsumer recycled cntent It is desirable that manufacturers have prduct labeling systems t assist nn-english speaking r illiterate persnnel Secndary cntainers must have apprpriate labels. Chemical Strage Undiluted chemicals shuld be stred in apprpriate designated areas Prducts must be stred in accrdance with manufacturer instructins and all federal, state, and lcal requirements t facilitate prduct identificatin and safe use and all cntainers must have the apprpriate labels. Never mix different cleaning prducts tgether Equipment Guidelines Equipment Standards The fllwing standards will guide cleaning equipment selectin: Vacuum cleaners that meet the requirements f the Carpet & Rug Institute Green Label Prgram and are capable f capturing 96% f particulates 0.3 micrns in size and perate with a sund level less than 70dBA. Ht water extractin equipment fr deep cleaning carpets that is capable f remving sufficient misture such that carpets can dry in less than 24 hurs. Pwered equipment that is ergnmically designed t minimize vibratin, nise and user fatigue. Equipment that has rubber bumpers t reduce ptential damage t building surfaces. Equipment Maintenance A lg will be kept fr all pwered husekeeping equipment dcumenting: the date f equipment purchase all repair and maintenance activities Vendr specificatin sheets fr each type f equipment in use. Cleaning Prcedure Guidelines Dusting and Dust Mpping Use wide area vacuums fitted with apprpriate bags/filters, as much as pssible Use lint free dusting clths r a vacuum feather dusters shuld nt be used Clby Husekeeping Guidelines 8

Entryways Clean entryways beginning utside the building Use walk-ff matting/grates utside and inside entry as apprpriate. Vacuum r sweep clean mats frequently, especially during inclement weather Make sure mpping slutins are kept clean using nly the crrect amunt f cleaning chemical. D n veruse cncentrated cleaning chemicals mix cncentrated chemicals accrding t manufacturer instructins. Remake as necessary and dispse spent slutin apprpriately Peridically clean under entry mats and grating systems t reduce the ptential fr misture buildup leading t bacterial and fungal grwth. Carpet Care General Guidelines Ensure that vacuums are in gd wrking rder using apprpriate bags and/r filters. Vacuum bags shuld be emptied r replaced when half full. Dispse prperly. Clean up spill while they are still fresh Minimize the amunt f misture used during cleaning Carpet Care - Extractin Cleaning Minimize the amunt f cleaning chemicals. Excess chemicals result in rapid re-siling. Use apprpriate functining equipment that will maximize the amunt f water being extracted frm the carpet t minimize misture and ptential fr mld, mildew and bacterial grwth. Increase ventilatin, pen windws if weather and facility plicies allw, and use fans t dry carpet quickly. Carpets shuld be cmpletely dry within 24 hurs. Dispse f cleaning slutins prperly Fd Areas: Cafeterias, Breakrms, Etc. Clean and sanitize flrs, tables, etc. using apprved prducts. Separate recyclables frm trash and make sure recyclable areas are kept clean in rder t nt attract pest Make sure that waste cntainers are cvered and emptied frequently Restrms Make sure sanitizing and disinfecting slutins are prepared and used prperly (i.e. dwell time) and remix as required Frequently clean surfaces that hands tuch t eliminate the spread f germs (i.e. dr knbs, light switches, handles, etc.) Clby Husekeeping Guidelines 9
