RE: Kognity On-line textbook Dear Parents of the Class of 2018, As you may already know, all our grade 11 and 12 students have been, until now, taking advantage of a 2-month trial of a set of online, interactive textbooks developed by a Swedish company called Kognity. This trial is now coming to an end, and due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback which we have received, we have added Kognity to your son or daughter s book list in quite a few subjects. To avoid inflating the overall costs too much, several optional guides have been dropped. We strongly believe that having access to Kognity textbooks would have a very positive effect on your son or daughter s learning, and ultimately, DP results. Therefore, we would like to ask you to purchase Kognity textbooks for your son or daughter. Please note that not all subjects are available, and not all ISHR teachers may require their use. In the latter case, students can still use it as a self-study and revision guide. The subjects where the Kognity textbooks will be made available are: Group 4: Biology, Chemistry, Physics. Group 5: Mathematics SL, Maths Studies. The company does not sell licenses to individual students, and so the billing must be done through the school. However, this also means that entire groups must be added. For example, if two students in Mr. Smith s Chemistry class didn t have Kognity, the rest couldn t either. We want to prevent that from happening, so Kognity will be a required purchase for all students taking the subjects listed above. The pricing options provided by Kognity are two: either 35 euros per year per subject, or 90 euros for all subjects that the company offers (which may include subjects where a particular teacher or department opted out). The company has agreed to charge you only for what your son or daughter can actually use. For example, if a student named John Smith were in Physics, English A, Chemistry, German A, and Maths SL, the most advantageous choice would be the all-inclusive route, since he would have 3 subjects were Kognity textbooks exist.
