Develop 21st century skills using Web 2.0 tools that will equip students for life after school. Why do students choose online IB courses? Allows them to study IB subjects otherwise unavailable at their school. Allows them to take courses which would not otherwise fit in their schedules. Provides an exciting and truly global educational experience. Exposes them to a form of learning which they know will be important to their future studies and careers.

2 2 of 6 Two-year courses beginning in September 2011 Group 2 Spanish ab initio Mandarin ab initio (new in 2011) Group 3 Business and Management SL Economics SL Economics HL ITGS SL ITGS HL Philosophy SL (new in 2011) Psychology SL Group 5 Mathematics HL Group 6 Film SL (new in 2011) Courses are offered in multiple sections of students, each carefully balanced to ensure a high degree of global diversity.

3 3 of 6 Course quality: Key facts Courses are designed by IB-experienced instructional designers, working with IB-approved subject matter experts. Each course is approved by the IB prior to delivery. Course delivery is monitored by the IB on an ongoing basis. Teachers are IB-experienced and specially trained in online pedagogy selected in accordance with strict IB guidelines. Internal Assessments are subject to the same requirements (including moderation) as in face2face courses. Students sit the regular External Assessments in their own schools. No distinction is made on the IB Diploma as to whether course was taken face2face or online.

4 4 of 6 Course delivery: Key facts Lessons follow a weekly schedule Depending on the level, students should expect 6 8 hours of work per week (including homework). New York Cairo London Hong Kong Students work closely with their online teachers In addition to direct support of class work, teachers provide extra support through monitored discussion threads and real time office hours. Tokyo Dubai Buenos Aires Moscow Students (and parents) are supported by a Pamoja-trained Site Based Coordinator (SBC) at their school The SBC is a coach/mentor for students and facilitates communication between Pamoja and the school.

6 6 of 6 Who would be an ideal student? Self-motivated and well-structured. Independent learner. Reasonably strong oral and written communication skills in the English language. Tech-friendly (though not necessarily experienced in online learning or Web 2.0 tools). High level of interest in the course. How do you enrol in a Pamoja Education course? Enrolments are made through a student s IB World School. Students should discuss options with their Diploma Coordinator and, if the school has enrolled students previously, the Site Based Coordinator. Students and schools can visit the Courses section of the Pamoja Education website for additional enrolment information. While there is no strict enrolment deadline, school are encouraged to enrol students by mid-spring if at all possible, since courses fill up quickly and it may be difficult to add additional course sections once the originally planned sections are full. Who is behind Pamoja Education? A dedicated team of professionals, based in Oxford UK many with IB teaching or administrative experience and/or children enrolled in the Diploma Programme. A Geneva-based investment group, Pamoja Capital, which focuses on socially responsible investments and has committed future profits to the charitable McCall MacBain Foundation in support of its work in sub-saharan Africa.
