Jacksonville North Pulaski School District Special School Board Meeting Jacksonville City Hall Call to Order Present Absent Pledge of Allegiance Titans Branding President Gray called the meeting to order at 6 pm. Daniel Gray, Carol Miles, Marcia Dornblaser, Jim Moore, Dena Toney, LaConda Watson and Superintendent Tony Wood Colonel William Brooks and Ron McDaniel Secretary Carol Miles led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Roger Sundermeier, marketing director for First Arkansas Bank and Trust, presented branding guidelines for the Titans mascot including the color palette and type treatment. Mr. Sundermeier said the guidelines should give some creative freedom to allow students flexibility in the mascot use. He suggested the brand be trademarked and housed on the District s website. The new brand included the shield as a tribute to the military, a lightning bolt for the Titans and the letter J for Jacksonville. Variations for elementary schools and the middle school were included. Mr. Moore moved, seconded by Ms. Watson, approval of the branding guidelines with the full graphic options for schools and to allow some flexibility in its use. It was further stipulated that the trademarking process begin immediately. The motion carried four to two. Ms. Dornblaser and Ms. Toney voted no. Intra-District Superintendent Wood provided results of the intra-district Student Transfers student transfer survey. The results reflected approximately 85 percent of respondents were non-black and approximately 42 percent were seeking a transfer to Arnold Drive Elementary. Ms. Miles said change was hard for everyone but did not think the District could implement transfers the first year of operation. Ms. Watson asked that the comments provided be looked at to see if overall improvements were needed.

Page 2 Ms. Toney said she knew there would be some special cases and she didn t want to close the door on those. Mr. Wood said there could be a special circumstance where a student would be best served at another school. He said those cases would be scarce and professional documentation would be required. Ms. Watson moved, seconded by Ms. Miles, to go forward with zoning as planned without intra-district student transfers. The motion carried unanimously. Report Superintendent Wood announced the District sold $15,975,000 in bonds at a lower interest rate than anticipated. The lower interest rate (2.63%) generated approximately $225,000 more revenue. He also announced the bid opening for demolition of the middle school was scheduled for July 18-22 and demolition would begin August 15 the first day of school. Personnel Ms. Watson moved, seconded by Mr. Moore, to move into executive session to discuss personnel. The motion carried unanimously. The Board reconvened in open session at 7:26 pm.. Mr. Moore moved, seconded by Ms. Toney, to approve the Superintendent s recommendations for licensed employees for the 2016-17 school year. The motion carried unanimously.
