My experience from the Norwegian Army has proven useful both in my studies in risk management and societal safety at the University of Stavanger, and during fieldwork related to my PhD. My knowledge in radio communications and security has proven particularly relevant during fieldwork in Darfur. My current position, as associate professor in risk management and societal safety at the University of Stavanger, gives me an opportunity to follow up my interests in learning in large humanitarian emergency response operations (topic for my master thesis) and coordination of humanitarian operations in complex humanitarian/political emergencies (topic for my PhD dissertation). I conducted two fieldworks in Sudan, including interviews with a large number of NGOs, INGOs, UN agencies, the host government and IDPs. - 01.2007-03.2007 Evaluation: Dilemmas in a humanitarian crisis!, The Norwegian Refugee Council: The main purpose of the evaluation was to assess NRC s role as Camp Coordinator (manager) and assistance provider in Kalma IDP camp, and the protection and advocacy efforts towards assuring the interests and rights of IDPs. Emphasis was placed on the ability of NRC to manage these different activities in a coherent manner. Emphasis is also placed on contextual issues directly influencing NRC s operations. Training/certifications: - 25.02.2012 02.03.2012: International Coordination Course: The International Coordination Course (ICC) is open to participants who have completed the Operational Management Course (OPM).The overall objective of the course is to increase participants knowledge of, and ability to work with, other international response systems. International coordination mechanisms and the approach of other organisations to disaster management are covered by the course, which is composed of theory, case study-based group work sessions and practical exercises. - 25.06.2011 01.07.2011: Operational Management Course: The Operational Management Course (OPM) is the second course in the training programme and is open to those who have previously followed the Community Mechanism Induction Course (CMI). The six-day course targets national experts and European Commission officials who have been selected as potential team members or liaison officers of an assessment or coordination team sent by the European Commission to facilitate assistance support and coordination in the field. - 14.05.2011 20.05.2011: Community Mechanism Induction Course: The Community Mechanism Induction Course (CMI) is a six-day introductory course and the entry point to all courses offered within the EU Community Mechanism training programme. The course is aimed at team leaders, deputy team leaders, managers, experts and administrators who are likely to be involved in international civil protection assistance interventions.
