Course Overview Welcome to Management of Criminal Justice Agencies (CJAD 451) online. This course is designed to examine the purposes, goals, and functions of management principles. The material is presented from a traditional, legal, criminological, historical, and social systems perspective. Students will develop an understanding of the philosophy of practical operations in each phase of criminal justice management. Personnel issues and the impact of internal and external influences within agencies are also addressed. The student should, upon completion, be able to explain current management principles, organizational theory, and administrative practices as they relate to the Criminal Justice System. Each week we will focus on a different issue encountered in the criminal justice system. Through discussions, quizzes, and written assignments, we will examine criminal justice management issues, procedures, and court decisions that have molded and changed our criminal justice system. These are reinforced and expanded through our textbook. We will reference discussion assignments from our text, Internet searches, libraries, and interviews with individuals employed or retired from the CJ field.
