Art. 1 Number of Positions 1. Every year the University of Trento (Italy) admits a limited number of students coming from Non-EU countries 1 to the Master of Science (M.S. or Laurea Magistrale) in Cognitive Science. 2. In the Academic Year 2014-2015 the University of Trento will admit to the Master of Science in Cognitive Science a number of available positions of 40, 30 of which are reserved to international students (non-eu citizens living abroad) according to Legge 189/2002, art. 26. 3. The M.S. program starts in September, lasts officially 2 academic years 2. Interested prospective students who are willing to participate to the competition for one of the available positions in the Academic Year 2014-2015 are invited to submit their application according to the rules described in this call. Art. 2 Admission Requirements 1. In order to be considered eligible for application, interested prospective students must have the following minimum requirements: a) a three- or four-year-bachelor s degree from an internationally recognized institution at university level. Students who still have not completed their first-level degree, but that expect to graduate before September 15, 2014 have to provide a temporary certificate from their University stating their expected graduation date; b) fluency in written and spoken English at B2 level (CEFR - Common European Framework) proved by one of the following certificates: - FCE (First Certificate in English); - Skills for Life Level 1; - BEC (Business English Certificate) Vantage; - ILEC (International Legal English Certificate) B2 Pass; - ICFE (International Certificate in Financial English) B2 Pass; - BULATS Level 3 Upper Intermediate (score 60-74); - IESOL B2 Communicator + Spoken; - ISESOL B2 Communicator; - ISE (Integrated Skills in English) II; - IELTS Competent user (no skill lower than 5.5); - TOEFL PBT (min. score 560) + TSE (Test of Spoken English - min. score 50) + TWE (Test of Written English - min. score 5); - TOEFL CBT (min. score 225) + TSE (min. score 50); - TOEFL ibt (no skill lower than 21); - EFB (English for Business) or EFC (English for Commerce) Level 3; - JETSET Level 5 (B2 Vantage); - Pearson General English Test or Pearson Academic English Test F Upper Intermediate (min. score 59). 1 Students outside the European Union are students who are not citizens of any of the 27 Member States of the European Union (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia) or of the EFTA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), or of Switzerland, Andorra, Republic of San Marino, and The Vatican. 2 The actual duration of the program depends on the performance of each student. The candidate does not need to include an English language certificate, but has to submit a selfdeclaration in the following cases: - English is his/her mother tongue; - he/she has completed a Bachelor s or Master s course entirely taught in English. The Admissions Committee can call the candidate for an interview to verify his/her knowledge of English. Art. 3 Admission Procedure 1. Each student is asked to submit a complete online application package (http://international.unitn.it/mcs/application-form), which provides the university with fundamental information and allows the Admissions Committee to evaluate candidates basing on their proficiency, as well as on the potential for the further development of their skills. No paper applications will be accepted. 2. Non EU applicants have to pay the Registration Fee (15,00 Euros), according to the instructions that will be reported in the online application form in the section Registration fee. Non-EU applicants who do not pay the registration fee will not be evaluated for the access to the Master. Art. 3 Selection Criteria And Assessment Procedure 1. Applicants having the basic requirements described in the Art. 2 will be selected according to the following criteria: a) Motivation letter (0-30 points); b) Curriculum studiorum (0-25 points); c) Curriculum vitae (0-25 points); d) Recommendation letters (0-15 points); e) English language certificate (0-5 points); In order to be eligible for the Master s Course the candidate must receive a score equal to or above 60/100. The Admission Committee may assign additional points according to the University where the candidate obtained his/her degree. 2. The Master Admission Office will send an acceptance notification to the top 30 candidates of the list of the non EU applicants and to the top 10 candidates of the list of the EU candidates. Each accepted applicant must confirm, in writing, his/her application, pay a non-refundable admission confirmation fee of 100,00 (one hundred) Euros and finally send by e-mail a scanned proof of payment according to the instructions that will be reported in the acceptance notification fee. 3. Failing to confirm and/or to pay the deposit and/or to send a scanned proof of payment within 7 days from the reception date of the acceptance notification will automatically lead to the exclusion of the applicant. 4. All the vacant positions will be progressively offered to the following students in the short lists, till reaching the end of the lists. 5. All students that, for any reason, decline their position are strongly invited to communicate their decision to mcs@unitn.it, as soon as possible in order to give other eligible students the opportunity to study at the University of Trento. Art. 4 Tuition Fees And Scholarships 1. The yearly tuition fee for a two-year Master's course at the University of Trento covers the full cost of tuition and examinations and amounts to max 6.000. The University of Trento is a public institution and the graduate programs ('Lauree Magistrali') comply with the Bologna scheme. Consistently, access to the Master's course is offered to EU students and Non-EU students regularly living in Italy at a reduced fee, of maximum 3.000,00. The web page http://www.unitn.it/en/incoming/21516/tuition-fees-two-year-masterscourses-english will be updated with all information about the tuitions fees and the opportunities to pay a reduced fee according to the student s financial situation and the family income. 2. During the period of May selected students, who received a score equal to or above 75/100 in the selection process, may apply for the Opera Universitaria Scholarship, which covers the course fee as well as some of the living expenses during the stay in Trento. Opera Universitaria Scholarships are awarded according to two criteria: the financial situation of the family income, and the availability of funds. Art. 5 Awarded Degree 1. Upon the successful completion of the study plan and the fulfilment of the M.S. program requirements, students will be awarded the following degree: Laurea Magistrale in Scienze Cognitive (Master of Science in Cognitive Science ).This qualification has legal value in Italy and it is compliant with the requirements of the International Bologna process for higher education at European level. Art. 6 Application Procedure 1. The application to the present competition for one of the available positions within the M.S. in Cognitive Science must be performed online. Details can be found at the following link http://international.unitn.it/mcs/application-form. 2. Applications must be finalized within 28/03/2014 at 12:00 (GMT+1). Interested applicants are required to fill in the on-line application form thoroughly and to upload the documents listed below: a) Copy of current passport (photo page only) or valid ID; b) A passport-sized photo; c) Copy of the Bachelor s degree certificate; d) University transcripts of records with title and grade of each exam, and final mark; e) Motivation letter in English; f) Europass-format curriculum vitae in English (http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/en/home); g) English language certificate according to Art. 2; h) Two letters of recommendation. 3. All documents, except the copy of the first-level degree certificate 3, must be uploaded by the deadline stated above. Only portable document format (pdf) files will be accepted. Using other types of files (e.g., zip, jpg, doc, tiff, etc ) will lead to the automatic exclusion of an applicant from the selection process. 4. Incomplete or not finalized applications as well as unreadable documents will also lead to the automatic exclusion of an applicant from the selection process. 3 Students who still have not completed their first-level degree, but that expect to graduate before September 15, 2014 have to provide a temporary certificate from their University stating their expected graduation date. 5. The short list of the admitted students will be published by 28/04/2014. 6. Afterwards, all accepted students who are going to confirm their intention to enroll at the University of Trento in the Academic Year 2014-2015 will have to follow the official pre-enrolment procedure at the Embassies or Consulates of Italy in their respective countries of residence between May and June 2014 4. 7. The pre-enrolment procedure is compulsory to obtain the visa. More specific information about this topic will be communicated to selected students. 8. After obtaining the visa, prospective students should plan to come to Trento at the beginning of September 2014 to attend some essential orientation and welcome activities prior to their official enrollment at the University of Trento. 9.
