Education Program of JTAG Boundary-scan Technology for Vocational Educational Schools 2009-1-LV1-LEO05-00352 1
Project Information Title: Education Program of JTAG Boundary-scan Technology for Vocational Educational Schools Project Number: Project Type: Year: 2009 Status: Marketing Text: 2009-1-LV1-LEO05-00352 Transfer of Innovation completed LV-Latvia Enterprises of electronic industry in worldwide more and more approve innovative JTAG Boundary scan testing technology that complies with IEEE standard 1149.1. Therefore there is necessity for qualified specialists in the field of modern electronic equipment testing. Some universities are developing education programs for high educational system. Till this project there was no such education program for vocational educational level in Baltic countries. During the Project the JTAG Boundary - scan industrial training program was adapted to vocational education programs requirements in Baltic countries. The result of the Project is the Boundary - scan technology vocational education program in Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian and English languages. Summary: There is a high demand of specialists with modern knowledge in electronics in the ICT sector. There is lack of new updated training programs in electronics that are closely related to industry needs. For example, the "Catalog of developed methodological teaching materials within EU funded projects" (source: Ministry of Education and Science of Republic of Latvia, www.izm.gov.lv) shows that only 1 of 30 methodological materials for ''Electronics and automation' is devoted to electronics of modern industry, and only 5 of 35 methodological materials for "Power industry" cover electronics topics. Growing miniaturization level of electronic devices, increasingly makes difficult and complicate development and testing process of devices. Enterprises of electronic industry in worldwide more and more approve innovative JTAG Boundary scan testing technology that complies with IEEE standard 1149.1. Therefore there is necessity for qualified specialists in the field of modern electronic equipment design and testing. The aim of the project was to facilitate the development of innovative practices in ICT vocational education trough transfer of modern training program based on IEEE standards considering to the Baltic labour market needs as well as to increase the volume of cooperation between higher and vocational education systems and industry. The objectives of the project was: 1) Survey the capability of vocational schools for covering the market needs; 2) Adapting the JTAG Boundary-scan technology training program to vocational educational standards and translation it in 4 languages; 3) To promote the implementation of new ICT technology in the Baltic vocational education system; 4) To develop the skills and competence of Baltic VET teachers in topical industrial technologies. There was 6 project partners from 4 countries. The Netherlands Company with modern training program, technical college from Latvia adapted it for vocational education system, but one business innovation centre and 3 professional SMEs from different Baltic countries organized training sessions and demonstration activities for new education program in selected vocational schools. The innovative content of new education program provided the vocational schools teachers with modern knowledge for electronics devices designing and manufacturing process. As result, vocational skills of pupils will better correspond to the labour market needs. Economic benefits for electronic industry: - shorter products time to market; - lower costs for design and producing of electronics devices; - improved product quality and reliability. Description: The aim of the project was to facilitate the development of innovative practices in the field of ICT vocational education trough transfering of modern training program based on world organization Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 2
