US-05 converts electrical query signal into infrared radiation pulses. In the event of working dosimeter in the proper mode is inserted into US-05, it receives infrared query signal and sends the light signal in response about the readiness for data exchange. 1.4.2 US-05 converts light response signal into electric signal, which is sent to US-05 by the cable. After contact is established data exchange takes place according to reader and PC algorithms. The beginning and the end of data exchange is signaled by a sound from dosimeter. 1.5 Marking and sealing 1.5.1 The front panel of US-05 contains the following marks: - trade name or manufacturing plant brand - unit designation; - casing protection; - unit ordinal number according to manufacturing plant numbering scheme; - manufacturing date. 1.5.2 The place and the technology of US-05 marking are in accordance to design documentation. 1.5.3 US-05 is sealed according to design documentation. 1.6 Packing 1.6.2 Internal packing meets the requirements of GOST 9.014-78 for group III protection type В3-0, packing type ВУ-5. 1.6.3 Packing is performed in closed ventilated areas with environmental temperature from +15 to + 40 С, relative humidity 80 % for +20 С and corrosion-active agents concentration limit for atmosphere type I according to GOST 15150-69. 2 INTENDED USE 2.1 Operational limits 2.1.1 US-05 is intended to work in a living area conditions. 2.1.2 PC, to which US-05 is connected, must be fed with 220 V, 50 Hz uninterruptable power supply and a filter. 2.2 Preparing reader for operation 2.2.1 Insert connection cable of US-05 into PC COM-Port. 2.2.2 Connect feeding adapter to the 220 V, 50 Hz mains. Connect the feeding adapter cable to the corresponding connector of US-05. Feeding proper state will be confirmed by red indicator in the upper-right conner of US-05 front panel. 2.2.3 Turn PC on. Launch «DKG-05D Tools» software from CD included. It is necessary to read operation manual of this software which is included into Help option of the software. 4

2.3 Product usage 2.3.1 Insert dosimeter into receiving interface of US-05. 2.3.2 Dosimeter will send a sound signal of 30 ms length, which means that it is ready for data exchange, you will see the value of dosimeter battery voltage on its display. Continue operation according to operation manual DKG-05D ФВКМ.412113.005РЭ. «DKG-05D Tools» software provides: - dosimeter identification; - viewing measurements results of the dosimeter; - viewing and changing operating settings and calibration parameters of the dosimeter; - receiving, viewing and saving the archive content to a file; - control the operation modes of the dosimeter. 3 TECHNICAL MAINTENANCE 3.1 Overall notes Technical maintenance of US-05 is performed to keep it in the safe and working state during the lifetime. 3.2 Safety precautions 3.2.1 Before starting to work with US-05 it is necessary to read this operation manual. 3.2.2 During the operation it is necessary to act according to «Safety rules of electric equipment operation» and «General rules of radiation safety (ОСПОРБ-99) СП 2.6.1.799-99» and «Radiation safety standards (НРБ-99) СП 2.6.1.758-99». 3.3 Technical maintenance order Technical maintenance is divided into routine and periodic. 3.3.1 Routine technical maintenance Routine technical maintenance is periodic check of US-05 for detecting and removing any factors, that can affect functionality and safety. During the maintenance it is necessary to check the condition of spring contact group in the receiving slot of the reader. 3.3.2 Periodic technical maintenance Periodic technical maintenance is a check of overall technical state of US-05. 3.3.3 Decontamination Decontamination of US-05 if performed according to work rules of the plant. Outer surfaces are decontaminated by the solutions 1) and 2) according to 1.2.14. After processing the surface with decontaminating solution it is necessary to wipe it with a tatters, wetted in a distilled water and then dry with filter paper. Contacts and connectors are decontaminated by the solution 3) according to 1.2.14. Additional processing with distilled water and filter paper is not required. 4 ROUTINE REPAIRS 4.1 Possible malfunctions of US-05 and methods of their repairing are listed in table 4.1. 5

Table 4.1- Possible malfunctions of US-05 and methods of their repairing Malfunction Possible cause Method of repairing After plugging the feeder there's no red indicator light of US-05. US-05 does not work properly No connection between dosimeter and PC 5 STORAGE Feeder is malfunctioning No good contact between spring contact group of US- 05 with charging contact group of dosimeter Replace the feeder Restore the contact 5.1 US-05 before the operation must be stored in a closed storage with natural ventilation. It is allowed to store US-05 in non-wormed areas without climate control. Storage conditions of US-05 in manufacturer's pack must meed the requirements of 3 (G3) according to GOST 15150: - ambient air temperature..... from + 5 to +40 С; - air relative humidity.... 80 % at 25 ºС; There must be no dust, acid or alkali vapours, aggressive gases and other corrosive substances in a storage area. Storage area must prevent direct sunlight to US-05 in a pack. 6 TRANSPORTATION 6.1 US-05 in manufacturer's pack can be transported by any standard means to any distances: - transportation by train must be done in closed clean cars; - if transported in open carriers the packs must be protected by water-proof material; - if transported by air carrier packs must be placed into hermetic warmed area; - if transported by ship packs must be placed into hold. 6.2 The placement of packs must provide steadiness and protection from displacement and impacts. 6.3 The requirements placed on the packing boxes must be met during load and unload. 6.4 Transportation conditions are as follows: - temperature.... from minus 50 to +50 С; - humidity..... up to 98 % at +35 С; - sine vibrations..... in frequency range from 10 to 500 Hz with amplitude 0,35 mm if frequency is lower than crossover frequency, 5,0 g if higher than crossover frequency (group F3 according to GOST 12997-84). 7 UTILIZATION 7.1 At the end of lifetime of US-05 (and all equipment in its package), before sending it to repairs or checking it is necessary to check radioactive pollution of surfaces. Criteria for decontamination are listed in 3.11 ОСПОРБ-99. 7.2 Decontamination must be performed with SAS in case, when level of radioactive pollution can be lowered to acceptable values (table 8.9 НРБ-99, 3.11.3, 3.11.4 ОСПОРБ-99). 7.3 According to 3.7 SPORO-2002 it is allowed to use surface absorbed dose power (0.1m) as criterion for decontamination of product polluted by unknown gamma radionuclides. 6

7.4 In case of excess of dose rate 0,001 mgy/h (1 μsv/h) over background after decontamination or surface radioactive pollution level excess, the product must meet the requirements of radioactive waste (RAW). RAW is a subject for classification according to 3 СПОРО-2002 and decommissioning according to 3.12 СПОРО-2002. 7.5 Product allowed to continue operation after decontamination is a subject for repairs or replacement in case of non-repairability. Non-repairable product without surface radioactive pollution level excess must be disassembled to prevent its operation, and sent to special areas for waste. 7.6 The product with expired lifetime that was allowed for operation after decontamination is a subject for technical examination. In case of satisfactory condition the product is a subject for next lifetime determination. 7
