3 introduction Introduction The purchaser is responsible for providing the necessary machine utility requirements to the area where the Lava System will be installed. This includes electricity and compressed air. Because of varying local codes and labor policies, it is also the responsibility of the purchaser to install the machine in its permanent location and to connect the services to the machine. For example, the state of California requires that seismic bracing be provided on the Lava CNC 500. It is the purchaser s responsibility to ensure that state and local code requirements are met. WARNING The customer is solely responsible for providing an oil-free and dry air supply (to a dew point of 37 F, 3 C). Filters are provided for precautionary purposes only and not as a replacement for a clean air supply. A contaminated air supply can quickly reduce the effectiveness of the filter element, resulting in early machine failure and possibly contamination of the coping. NOTICE Only dental care professionals or other appropriately trained personnel in dental care and industrial use areas should use this equipment. It is a violation of federal law (USA) to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. Injury to persons or property can result unless the operating instructions are followed carefully.

4 2. Prep the area 2. Prep the Area 2.1 Electrical Service Requirements The electrical requirements for the 3M ESPE equipment being installed are shown in the following table. The supply power must be 5 ft. (1.5 meters) or less from the Lava CNC 500. Additionally, when planning the electrical service consider support equipment such as compressors, air dryers, and vacuum systems. 5 2.4 Compressed Air Requirements Compressed air is used to operate the work piece load and unload mechanism as well as maintain a debris free cutting environment. 2. prep the area Compressed Air Supply Specifications Pressure Flow Rate 95 lbs/in 2 (6.5 bar) minimum, 145 lbs/in 2 (10 bar) maximum 8.8 ft 3 /min (250 l/min) Air Purity Class 344 DIN ISO Connection Distance Within 2 ft. (0.6m) of milling machine NOTICE A compressed air source that does not meet the specifications can cause early machine failures. 3M s warranty and preventative maintenance agreements do not cover machine failures caused by an improper compressed air source. Moisture in the air line will not be removed by the accessory air filter. A refrigerated air dryer may be needed to meet the dew point requirement. It should be a non-cycling hermetic type compatible with the flow and pressure of the compressor selected. It should be capable of accepting air and drying it to 37 F (3 C) dew point at 100 F (38 C) ambient. It would typically have an automatic drain tap and be wired from the compressor controller. The following air dryers are examples that may be used: Norgren D-10 Series or Arrow A Filters 3M ESPE supplies an air filter assembly with each Lava System to remove dirt particles from the incoming air. This filter must be installed on the compressed air line at the time of installation and must be drained periodically to remove excess water. Install the mist separator in front of the micro-mist separator to remove coarse air contaminants that would otherwise plug the micro-mist element. Replace the mist separator at least every 6 months and the micro-mist separator at least every 12 months. Change the elements more frequently if the air supply is highly contaminated.

6 2. prep the area 2.6 Equipment Placement Requirements 1. Floor structure must be able to withstand 164 lbs/ft2 (800 kg/m2) under the Lava CNC 500 s projected floor area. Consultation with structural or architectural engineering firm should be done to confirm floor requirements. 2. Minimum clearance of 24 in. (0.6m) behind, to the left side, and to the right side of Lava CNC Lava Scan ST must be placed on a sturdy, bench top with minimal vibration. 4. A vent hood is optional, but not required for the Lava Furnace The Lava Furnace 200 should be placed on a sturdy benchtop. Note: The following are the system specifications. Note: Lava CNC 500 to contain a VPN connectivity device supplied by 3M ESPE A dedicated broadband (DSL, cable) connection with a Static IP Address assigned from the Internet Service Provider is necessary. A 10BaseT or faster ethernet network connection is required for remote support. Network upload and download speed should be at or above 125Kbps. 3M ESPE will provide a VPN router for a secure connection between 3M ESPE technical support and the customer site Customer to supply the cable from the DSL modem to VPN Interface The broadband connection in which to configure the remote network connection as outlined in the Lava Remote Connection Diagram has the requirements below: 3M Supplied Router to Customer Supplied Modem a. 8 2. Prep the area 2.8 Special Installation Tool Requirements No special installation tools are required by the customer. A 3M ESPE representative will be present for the uncrating or unloading of the Lava System. This uncrating or unloading will be conducted by 3M ESPE personnel and/or contracted personnel. The customer may be required and is responsible to remove any obstacles that would obstruct the transport of the Lava System into its final location within the customer facility. WARNING NO uncrating or unloading of the Lava System should be conducted unless under the direct supervision of a 3M Service Representative. 2.9 Compressed Air Line Installation Kit The Compressed Air Line Installation Kit supplied with the Lava System is installed between the Lava CNC 500 and the facility s compressed air services on the wall behind the Lava CNC 500 milling machine.
