How to Scan Objects 1. Preparation 1-1 Create a New Project Create a new project. Choose File New Select where to save, name the project and press Save This is the screen you work on. (2) (1) (4) (3) 1) Project Explorer Tree view 2) View Window Multiple views, user configured 3) Task Window, View management, Layer management 4) Object properties view, Device view 3/18
2. Data Acquisition 2-A Acquire data through Scan Master 2-A-1 Connect PC with GLS-1000 * The PC and GLS-1000 need to be connected beforehand The Device Connection window will appear by pressing the button at the lower left of the window Enter the same IP address as the GLS-1000 and press OK After a time, (Disconnected) will become (Connected). You are ready to Get Laser Scanning! 4/18
2-A-2 Set an Occupied Point Click the Scan Positions with the right button of a mouse on the (1) window and choose Create Scan Position The occupied point, Scan Position 01 will be created. This Scan Position 01 is the scan position where the scanner is placed You can scan several from the same scan position. Create the place where you save the first scan. Click the Scans under the Scan Position 01 with the right button and choose Create Scan. The following window will appear 5/18
The Capture Scan and Images Window You can name and save the setting you specify below Set a scan area. When button is pushed respectively in on the left and lower right within the range of the scanning on the video image, the angle value is input. Manually enter the angles of upper left and lower right or after pressing button, click the Ctrl-left button on the point you want to scan on the (2) window (automatic numeric entry) Set density. Enter the approx. distance to the object. The distance will automatically be given by pressing button. When aiming by shuttle and pressing button, it measuring distance, then distance is input. Select your main scan distance. The internal adjustment will be done to minimize the beam spot within that range. The estimated time will be shown. Start button Choose either Angle or Distance or Points to set the density. In this situation, the distance means the interval at the above distance. 6/18
2-A-3 Set scanning area by video image When the video image is turned on, the image of the area at which the scanner is aiming is displayed. If you click on the video image, the scanner moves to the direction of the clicked center. Specify the upper left and lower right of the scan area, but it should be a little bigger than the object. 2-A-4 Start Scanning Measure the distance to the object by pushing the probe button to find the best zoom position. Set observation density, select "Scan and Images", and then if you push the start button, scanning will start. The photographs of the scanning area are taken first, and the scan follows. The scan data will be shown in real-time. The progress can be seen on the Tasks view screen. 7/18
This is how it looks when it completes scanning. This is the Sphere mode. The Cube mode will give you a different look. This is the example of the Cube mode. The 3D model can be seen from various angles. Cleaning and registration is done in this mode. The picture cannot be shown in the cube mode. Instead, the RGB data can be mapped on each point data to show the model in colors. Click the Scan 001 with the right button and choose the Color from Image to map the RGB data. Change the Data Color from Intensity to Image to show the photo-realistic pointcloud. 8/18
2-A-5 Target Scan Target scans are necessary to match the coordinate systems of the different occupations that you made to perform Registration of your scan data. ScanMaster uses the following registration methods. (a) OCC/BCC: This method decides the coordinate system by setting up the OCC and the BCC on the known points, just like the TS. (b) Tie Point : This method decides the coordinate system by setting up more than three tie points on each combining area and giving them the coordinates. Both methods employ the same method for scanning targets. Aim the center of the target using video image. The target scan setting screen opens when you select Create - Target Scan in the menu. The target scanning begins when pushed. button is The current status of the target scan can be checked closely by switching the screen display to the Target Scan mode. The target scan is repeated for every target you wish to use for registration. 9/18
* Note for Target Scans - For the OCC/BCC method, you must measure the scanner height and the target height. More importantly, the coordinates of the reference points are necessary. - For the Tie Point method, it is necessary to measure coordinates of the target with TS etc. unless you use arbitrary coordinates. -Field notes are recommended, write down the measured height to be able to confirm the value later. Register the target scans as the tie points. Right-click the Target Scan in the project tree and select "Create Tie Point". The tie point is added to the tie point tree. is plotted on the screen at the same time as a tie point. 10/18
For the OCC/BCC method, input the information of OCC/BCC. When the scanning position tree is clicked, the property is displayed on the object tab at the right of the screen. Input the information of OCC/BCC in this property. * After inputting the coordinates, the reference point names of OCC and BCC can be selected from the pull-down menu. BCC Reference Point BCC Tie Point Name BCC Target Height OCC Scanner Height OCC Reference Point Continue Scanning Follow the next steps to continue scanning Scan from a different occupation without moving the control points Click the Scans under the Scan position 01 with the right button and choose the Create Scan Replace the control point and scan After connecting the GLS-1000, click the Scan Positions with the right button and choose the Create Scan Position 11/18
3. Post-Processing 3-1 Clean the data Delete the unnecessary data to create 3D model Specify the data that you want to delete. There are 3 ways to specify the data. : Point specification * If you select the point, switch to : Area specification by rectangle CHANGE the data mode. : Area specification by polygon Delete key Set the delete area Select the delete data The result As for the key operation, please refer to the command shown at the lower left of the window Clean each scan one by one. Check or uncheck the Scan Position or Scan box to either display or hide data 12/18
3-2 Combine the data (Registration) Create a single pointcloud for the object 3-2-1 Display two scan data together to make the work easier Choose Create - View to create View 01 tab in the Model view window. Display Scan Position 01 on Default tab and Scan Position 02 on View 01 tab Drag View 02 tab to the following location to show the two windows together Drag & Drop 13/18
This is how Scan position01 and Scan position02 are shown together on one screen Default tab View01 tab Scan position01 Scan position02 3-2-2 Input the reference point coordinates The point clouds acquired on site is the data of an optional coordinate system. It is necessary to match the coordinate systems to perform Registration. You need the reference points for this purpose. For the OCC/BCC method, input each reference point coordinates you used. For the tie point method, input the central coordinates of the targets. Select "File" - "Import" to take in the reference point coordinate file. The TXT and DXF are recognized as the input file formats. 14/18
3-2-3 Connect Tie Points(Tie Point Constraint) When combining the data by the tie point method, you need to bind three or more common tie points of the data next to each other. The same tie points on each data are linked and registered. Same Tie Point Same Tie Point Tie Point 0 Same Tie Point Tie Point 02 Choose Selection Mode Objects and click Point Selection Create Tie Point constraint 01 15/18
Click the first tie point. changes into yellow, which means it is selected. Next, hold the Shift key and choose the same tie point on the next window. of the same points on a right and left screens become yellow. Click this icon. The tie points are linked and the pair is registered as "Tie point constraint 01". This operation is repeated over the number of the combination of same tie points. 3-2-4 Registration for Tie Point Method (Tie Point Constraint) Choose Registration tab, hold the Shift key and select all the required models and press. When the selected models move to the right window, the registration is completed 3-2-5 Registration for OCC/BCC You need to enter the information of OCC and BCC. When the scanning position tree is clicked, property is displayed on the object tab at the right of the screen. Input the information of OCC/BCC in this property. * After inputting the reference point coordinates, the reference point name of OCC and the BCC come to be able to select the pull-down. 16/18
BCC Reference Point BCC Tie Point Name BCC Target Height OCC Scanner Height OCC Reference Point Choose Registration tab. Hold the Shift key, select all the required models, check the OCC/BCC box and press button. When the selected models move to the right window, the registration is completed Check both the Scan Position 01 and 02 boxes to confirm how they are combined. The registered model will be displayed 17/18
