TRANSPORTATION & PARKING Transportation Whether you live in Chicago or are just visiting, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is an efficient way to travel between destinations. In addition, taxi, rental car, and regional trains serve travelers and inhabitants alike. Parking is also available. CTA To and From the Airport Chicago is served by both Chicago Midway Airport and the O Hare International Airport. In addition to taxis, you can take the L downtown from either airport for just $2.25. To/From Chicago Midway Airport by CTA: Orange Line To/From O Hare International Airport by CTA: Blue Line 12

Public Transportation Chicago Transportation Authority (CTA) www.transitchicago.com Even if you re not within walking distance of your destination, it s easy getting around Chicago. The CTA subway and bus systems provide easy, affordable fare to destinations throughout the city. U-Pass For a $100 built-in tuition fee, full-time students are provided with a U-Pass. This pass quickly pays for itself, providing an unlimited number of rides on CTA buses and trains for the duration of the semester. Transit Pass As a visitor to Chicago or a John Marshall student between semesters, you have a number of options when purchasing a CTA transit card. Transit cards are only sold in train stations and machines only accept cash. Single fares run $2.25 per ride, $.25 for transfers (within 2 hours). Unfortunately, transit cards are not available for purchase on buses and transfers are not awarded when purchasing fare on a bus, so plan ahead. Unlimited Transit Pass CTA unlimited transit passes often provide a savings if you plan to travel a number of times in a day. Unlimited passes allow you to travel by both bus and train. Single-day, 3-day, Week, and 30-day passes can be purchased over the Internet before you make your trip to Chicago. www.faremedia.chicago-card.com Chicago Card For Chicago residents, Chicago Cards are available for purchase online, and allow you to pay per ride or per month with your credit card. www.chicago-card.com Maps of CTA bus and train lines www.transitchicago.com/travel_information/ maps/default.aspx Bus Tracker allows you to see when the next bus is arriving. www.ctabustracker.com/bustime/home.jsp In addition, a number of CTA phone applications are available for the iphone and other similar devices. 13

Rental Cars Rental cars are available at the O Hare International Airport, Chicago Midway Airport, downtown, and throughout Chicago. Additionally, Zip Car allows you to reserve a car for a couple of hours to run errands or for a full day to take a trip. www.zipcar.com CTA provides a similar car-sharing service available with I-GO Cards. www.igocars.org/how/chicago-card-plus-i-gocard Taxis Taxis are available to and from the airport. If you re already in the city, it s easy to just hail a cab, or you can always call one, if necessary. Bus If you re looking for an economical way to travel, buses also frequently stop in Chicago. Please inquire at the parking garage office for details. For residents of Chicago, parking spaces are occasionally available for rent with your apartment. If not, many people rent parking spaces on Craigslist. www.chicago.craigslist.org Street parking is also available in most neighborhoods. If you choose to park on the street, your neighborhood may require a zone parking permit. Along with City Stickers (required for all vehicles garaged in the City of Chicago), zone parking permits are available at your local alderman s office or through a community vendor. The John Marshall Law School does not provide student housing, but you will find that many students live in the same neighborhoods. Renting Like all metropolitan areas, rent varies substantially from neighborhood to neighborhood and is contingent on access to transportation and amenities.
