Verified By Visa is a free fraud prevention service that helps guard against unauthorised use of your Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card on the Internet. It allows you to add a personal security password, known as your Verified By Visa Password, to your existing Visa Debit Card which you then use to validate each online transaction. This helps to protect you from unauthorised use when shopping online as only you know the password you have chosen. How does Verified By Visa work? Verified By Visa is a bit like Chip and PIN for the Internet. When you register, you set a Verified By Visa Password that you keep secret, just like your PIN. Then, when you buy goods or services at any one of the 300,000+ participating retailers, you re prompted for your Verified By Visa Password to authorise that the card is yours and the purchase can go ahead. It gives you peace of mind because once you ve registered, if someone attempts to use your card fraudulently at any of these retailers, they won t be able to do it without your Verified By Visa Password.

How does Verified By Visa protect me? Since your card is protected by your personal Verified By Visa Password only you can use your card online at any one of the participating retailers. What happens if I decline to register for Verified By Visa? Verified By Visa is designed to combat fraud and protect your card details during online shopping. Consequently, should you decline to register for Verified By Visa you may not be able to proceed with your transaction on that occasion. Furthermore, until you register for Verified By Visa you will not be able to make online purchases from the many online retailers who participate in the Verified By Visa scheme. Will I need to apply for a new card to use Verified By Visa? No. You will be able to use your existing Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card. When will my account be debited for Verified By Visa purchases? There is no change to the processing of transactions and your account will be debited for Internet purchases just as it is now. Where can I shop with Verified By Visa? Over 300,000 online retailers are already part of Verified By Visa, and more online retailers are signing up. Most retailers using Verified By Visa will have information on their websites about the service, and where a retailer is signed up you ll automatically be directed to the Verified By Visa page when purchasing goods or services. Do I have to pay for the Verified By Visa service? No - Verified By Visa is a free service. What happens when my Bank of Ireland Visa Debit Card expires? If your card expires and is renewed, it will be automatically re-registered for Verified By Visa for you. What happens if I request a replacement card because my previous card was broken, lost or stolen? You will need to register your new card for the Verified By Visa service. What are the system requirements for Verified By Visa? Verified By Visa requires the use of Windows Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.0 (including 6.0 on XP SP2), 7.0 and 8.0, Windows Netscape 7.2, AOL 9, Mozilla Firefox 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0, Opera 9.5 and Macintosh Safari.
