Advanced Design and Building Our building design and construction courses are highly regarded in the building industry. They re designed to give you the practical skills, knowledge and qualifications to work in residential and commercial design and construction. They also give a great edge if you re planning to head to uni, with guaranteed pathways into Deakin University. Real industry skills and connections Our strong partnerships with organisations such as the City of Greater Geelong give you the opportunity to work on live projects throughout the region. Our courses are very hands-on with lots of site visits, project work and industry networking opportunities. You are also exposed to international study experiences through our study tour program. Register with industry bodies Our courses equip you with the skills to work at para-professional level. This means you can achieve the minimum academic requirements to register with the Building Practitioners Board in Victoria, and work alongside and assist other building and design professionals at higher levels. Pathway to Deakin Our relationship with Deakin s School of Architecture and Built Environment means you can take advantage of guaranteed pathways to a range of degree programs. We also offer the dual-delivered Bachelor of Architectural Technology, which gives you the benefits of both hands-on and academic learning. Looking for a short course? Aside from the full qualifications outlined in this guide, we also offer the following advanced design and building short courses: AutoCAD for Building - Level 1 and 2 Revit Architecture - Level 1 2 Advanced Design and Building thegordon.edu.au

I chose to study at The Gordon because of the great things I had heard from past students. The Gordon provided a hands-on experience, covering all the core skills as if it were a job in the real world. The highlights were the large variety of assignments and all the great people I have met along the way, and I particularly enjoyed the collaboration with fellow students and teachers about our personal building designs. I am currently working for Hamlan Homes as a Design Draftsperson which is highly rewarding, with a large portfolio of projects ranging from standard house designs, complex custom designs, large special care unit developments, town planning designs, 3D client concepts, sketch plans and unit subdivisions. Since finding a job, I can see that all of the skills learnt during the course have more than prepared me for the industry. The course gave me excellent problem solving and time management skills, and the ability to deliver a high standard of work. The course definitely sets you up to be a quality building designer who is highly employable. Ryan Darling Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural), 2014 I chose to study interior decoration as I really love fashion and interiors, and felt this was a growth industry. I ve also renovated a couple of homes and I really enjoyed the process. I choose to study at The Gordon because it was local, and it would give me the skills to enter the industry in just one year. The course was really well designed and the teachers are very knowledgeable; working in the industry, professional and always there to help. I felt like I was learning something new the whole time. I loved the creative assignments and client case studies as they allowed us to really think outside the square. When I finished, I got a part-time job as a colour consultant at a flooring studio where I continued to expand my knowledge of the building and design industry. I am now working as an interior designer in my own business Ampersand Interiors, which I run through my homewares store in Geelong West. I love working with people and helping them build their dream home or renovation, transforming a space from what it was to what it will become.
