Page 1 1. Introduction 1.1 Purpose This document provides a complete description of all the functions and specifications of CIIT Faculty/Staff Portal (FS Portal). It will also serve as a reference for other readers. 1.2 Intended Audience and Reading Suggestions This document is intended for the CIIT Faculty and Staff Members, Administration, CIIT Web Team, Project Managers, Software Testers and other Technical Staff. 1.3 Project Scope FS Portal is hosted on the Web server which is placed at the COMSATS Internet Services (CIS). This allows the portal to be accessed globally using the web browser. The data is stored in an SQL Server database which is also placed on the web server. 2. Overall Description 2.1 Product Perspective This is a dedicated web portal for the CIIT faculty and staff members. It caters the needs of our faculty/staff members by helping them to maintain their web pages on our institute website. Using this portal, which features inbuilt text editor and easy to use text forms, faculty members can upload and manage information to be shown on their webpages. The faculty and staff members can upload their profiles, research work, educational information, services, awards, collaborations scholarships, blogs and other related materials. This portal is an intelligent and dynamic web application which displays the users only the portion of the website which they intend to read. Data is entered by the Faculty and staff members using their account details and verified by the administrators of the concerned departments. Website development, security and maintenance is the responsibility of web team.

System Features The web portal has the following features. 3.1 Basic Functionality This system allows the CIIT Faculty and Staff members to upload their profiles through dynamic web forms, using any computer having internet connection. System displays a confirmation message when the information has been successfully uploaded. System also displays error messages if the data is incorrect. Uploading is only allowed through a login protected admin panel. System displays the inserted data to all the users. Data is displayed in the required format of the users. Data can also be filtered upon the users request. Data can only be displayed on web forms and not in any other format such as MS Word format, PDF format etc. Only Faculty and Staff will have the rights to change or delete their uploaded data. Other users will only view the information. Editing will only be allowed through a login protected admin panel. 3.2 100% Web Based Interface System has a 100% web based interface so that no software other than a web browser such as internet explorer is required to install or maintain on the user's desktop. System runs on all web browsers including internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome etc. System is manageable from any computer - at home, at work, or during travel / while traveling. 3.3 Role Based Access System provides a role based access to all the users. Roles are visitor, User, Departmental Coordinators, Web Team and Administrator. System has a data entry panel which is login protected. Using this panel each user can insert, view and edit his web page content. System also has a administrator panel which is login protected. Using this panel administrators can edit, delete, view content and generate user reports 3.4 Website Modules System has Profile related dynamic modules and some supporting and other faculty related modules. Data for the dynamic modules are entered by the CIIT Faculty and Staff members; information in the static modules is uploaded by the ITC web team.

Page 4 Vehicle Booking for CIIT Transport Management System 4. Web Portal Benefits Faculty/Staff Profiles from this web portal are displayed on the CIIT Website. CIIT Research Output is collected from the Research Module of this portal. It gives a Personal Webpage to each CIIT Faculty/Staff Member. CIIT Faculty/Staff Members Data of this project is used for Analysis and Reporting. It is connected to the CIIT Blogs and users can also upload blog posts from here. This portal is also linked with Help Desk System. This portal can be used to collect any kind of information from Faculty/Staff members. One Login/Password for all connected web portals. Reduces load of CIIT Email Server. First step towards CIIT Social Network. It eliminates the need of other forms which are being used for information gathering.
Page 5 5. Getting Started 5.1 Access the Web Portal You can access the web portal using the web address: http://ww3.comsats.edu.pk/faculty 5.2 Search Faculty or Staff Member Click on the Faculty or Staff link to search any user.
Page 6 5.3 View Department Wise Faculty / Staff List Select the department to view its faculty / staff members list and click on the Profile link to view the profile of the faculty member.
