Master of Business Administration Master of Business Administration The mission of the MBA is to provide educational experiences to prepare our students for life-long learning and professional leadership responsibilities in a dynamic, global environment. The program provides individualized attention through extensive studentfaculty collaboration. Students in the MBA program are expected to develop a core set of competencies including functional business knowledge, leadership and teamwork skills, analytical and critical thinking skills, responsiveness to domestic and global business environments, appreciation for diversity and multiculturalism as well as ethical and legal responsibilities, professional development and communication skills. A Program to Meet Your Needs Students may choose the accelerated MBA, which is offered in a three-semester compressed time frame allowing the student to complete the program in one year from their start date. Rolling admission is also offered so that students may begin their program in fall, spring or summer. The flexibility in our program allows each student to receive the best educational experience possible through either our full-time program or one of our part-time programs offered in two locations. Students attend classes two nights a week and generally finish the program in two years. It is within the MBA program s goals to provide students with knowledge involved in conducting business in a diverse, global environment. Study abroad trips are led by our Walker College of Business graduate faculty, and have included destinations to China, Cuba, Costa Rica, France, Poland, among many others.

Financial Aid The College offers assistantships, scholarships and out-ofstate tuition scholarships, which are awarded competitively to full-time students. This can help significantly with the cost of graduate school. Small Class High Quality Our commitment is to provide a high-quality program. One of the factors that differentiates the Walker College MBA program from programs at many other universities is our small class size. With a target class size of 20-25, students receive more individual attention in class and individual assistance with career-related issues. All Majors Welcome The MBA program is open to all undergraduate majors who have completed the necessary business prerequisites. The required courses are statistics, accounting, economics, finance, marketing and organizational behavior. The college has placed into effect new learning modules, which may fulfill the prerequisite requirements. Students have the options of completing accelerated prerequisites or attending prerequisite courses as needed.
Graduate Faculty Approximately 50 faculty members in the college hold graduate faculty status and teach in the MBA program. To be eligible for membership, a faculty member must be an active and productive scholar in her or his discipline. Scholarly activity includes the discovery, integration, and/or application of knowledge/skills in one s discipline through research/performance, instruction and professional service. Graduate faculty members must maintain current knowledge, methods and techniques of his or her discipline in order to teach MBA courses. Dual Masters Degree MBA candidates may exercise an interest in multiple academic disciplines, and earn two master s degrees while at Appalachian. 50% of credit hours in the lesser program may be double counted, with approval from both program directors and the graduate school. Students have the option enrolling in one of the dual degree programs: MBA/MPA (Master of Public Administration) MBA/Higher Education MBA/PSM (Professional Science Master) MBA/IOHRM (Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Human Resources Management) Career Development In addition to giving students the technical skills and knowledge to be successful in the business world, the Walker College also provides students the soft skills necessary to be complete professionals. This is achieved through full-time career services, as well as through three executive skills courses. Through these courses, students develop resumes, improve interview skills, and expand networking skills. In addition, a career advisor offers support to MBA students through abilities and interest analyses, job search strategies, job posting alerts, and mock interview opportunities.

Awards and Accolades Princeton Review's Best Business Schools The Princeton Review s guide to business and law schools consistently includes Appalachian s MBA Program in their annual Best Business Schools listing. The Review compiles results of more than 20,000 surveys with students rating their school on several topics and reporting about their personal experiences. CEO Magazine's Global MBA Super Table The MBA program is consistently ranked on the Global MBA Super Table, receiving a Top Tier ranking for North American schools by the International Graduate Forum. The ranking is aimed to truly reflect the qualities and values that students seek in a business school. The research is conducted with past and present students from universities around the world, and it evaluates the quality of both the in-class experience and the teaching faculty as well as other metrics including class size, student work experience, international diversity within the classroom, faculty-to-student ratios and faculty qualifications (both academic and professional). A Princeton Review Green College Appalachian State University continues to be included in The Princeton Review s Guide to Green Colleges. The guide was created in collaboration with the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The green guide profiles institutions that demonstrate notable commitments to sustainability in their academic offerings, campus infrastructure, activities and career preparation. Walker College Honors Graduate Programs Administrative Support Specialist Donna Lindabury received the 2013 outstanding staff award, which honors college staff members who exhibit dedication in service, innovation, workplace morale and service to Appalachian and the community. Lindabury serves as coordinator for the college s MBA program and has previously served as international programs coordinator. She began her career with the college as administrative assistant in the Department of Computer Information Systems. Lindabury holds a bachelor s degree in business administration from Appalachian.
