CounterPath Bria with Oracle TSC Feature Pack A Solution for Operator and Enterprise (OTT) Service Delivery Solution Brief

Internet OTT (over-the-top) changes the way people communicate. Internet OTT services enable real-time communications services outside the traditional service offerings of Operators and Enterprises. In 2013, smartphones constituted more than 50% of mobile devices purchased with that percentage expected to inflate 1. The increase in smartphone penetration coupled with the growth and uptake of IP telephony and SIP trunking stimulates use of Internet OTT services. Internet OTT service Skype statistics 2 illustrate the need for Operators and Enterprises to address this growth and uptake: Skype on-net (i.e. Skype to Skype) international traffic grew an estimated 36% to 214 billion minutes in 2013; 50% more than the combined international volume of every telco in the world. Skype represents over 40% of all International Long Distance Traffic World-Wide. For the Operators, users threaten to leave the walled-garden via Internet OTT services impacting their business models and increasing their churn. In the Enterprise, users seek to augment typical Enterprise (and SMB) services with Internet OTT services circumventing their IT requirements and increasing their support costs. Clearly, Operators and Enterprises will respond to the threat of Internet OTT. Enterprise Consumerization 1 Gartner February 2014 2 TeleGeography, January 2014 Pg 2

Solution Landscape Operators and Enterprises will address challenges presented by Internet OTT to avoid fundamental business and technical pitfalls. Pitfalls include: Increased churn Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) Interoperability and standardization Minimized Return on Investment (ROI) Privacy and confidentially concerns Regulatory compliance User maintenance and support. Oracle Communications Global Business Unit (CGBU) and CounterPath partnered to deliver a solution to eliminate these pitfalls. Specifically, Oracle CGBU and CounterPath developed the Oracle Tunneled Service Controller (TSC) Feature Pack for Bria mobile clients for ios and Android smartphones and tablets. The Oracle TSC Feature Pack for Bria eliminates these pitfalls by providing a superior Internet OTT solution for the BYOD, mobile and remote users of Operators and Enterprises. The SBC utilizes TSC software to terminate and control tunnels before passing the secure traffic into the service core. Bria with Oracle TSC Feature Pack provides the following solutions and benefits: Secure, protect and optimize end-to-end service delivery Provide reliable, predictable and high-quality voice QoS and QoE for best effort delivery networks Supply robust NAT and firewall traversal unmanageable via ICE, TURN and STUN Simplify signaling and media via tunneling Permit call Voice Call Continuity roaming between circuit-switched and packet-switched networks Comply to government regulations (e.g. E-911, CALEA) Integrate with existing IP PBX and Unified Communications services and applications. SBC unencrypts traffic forwarding to mobile core elements 6. core connects call to called party 7. 2-way media is established 8. SBC assumes control of signaling and media traffic within the established tunnel 9. Established tunnel maintains call continuity based on availability of circuit-switched or packet-switch network 10. Call concludes 11. Tunnel is torn down and returned to SBC connection pool Pg 4
