The India Sponsorship Committee "There are many bridges to a better life. Knowledge happens to be the most reliable" - Howard Stein. This forms a significant part of the mission of India Sponsorship Committee (ISC). The India Sponsorship Committee is a registered, recognised organisation working in India for the last 35 years. Having pioneered the child sponsorship programme in collaboration with child welfare agencies as project partners, the concept of community sponsorship was evolved and the ISC developed a community-based programme with a focus on child-centred development. The global SAVE THE CHILDREN organisations committed to upholding the Rights of the Child, was the inspiration for the India Sponsorship Committee to begin its endeavor. In 1967, the ISC took the initiative in India, to act in favor of children, to light up their life with the torch of education. The Right to Education meant giving the underprivileged child the gift of education by providing their families with enabling support. To date, 6000 children have been sponsored through this programme by networking with child welfare agencies to reach out to areas of need. A healthier environment and income generation became the key focus in the long march towards progress. The ISC works with the family and the community (especially women, the primary caretakers), to improve the quality of the children's lives.
