2 Why Six Sigma? Competitive pressure is forcing the Organizations to look for the ways and means for improving their processes so that the Quality of the products and services improve, waste reduces and customer satisfaction increases. Improved Customer satisfaction is the goal of Six Sigma. It cannot just happen. The methodology of Six Sigma aims at integrating all processes throughout the organizations to achieve customer satisfaction and thus ensuring business growth. Six Sigma Implementation Program covers a variety of processes related to manufacturing and services including, but not limited to, distribution operations, warehousing and inventory management, hospitality, health care, electronics equipment manufacturing, electronics component manufacturing, boiler industry to printed circuit board industry, banking to insurance business and what not. Six Sigma Green Belts: Six Sigma Methodology lays great emphasis on processes, but it recognizes people as assets. Green Belts are the team members (leaders also) of all improvement projects taken up within an organisation. Generally issues within a function/departments are solved by the Green Belts. Body of knowledge (BOK): BOK is designed to meet the minimum requirements of the most of the major organizations from across a wide range of industries, as listed below. 1. Overview of Six Sigma Methodology 2. Identification, Prioritization and selection of Improvement opportunities 3. Roles and responsibilities in Six Sigma implementation 4. Over view of Six Sigma Project execution 5. Development of Project Team and Charter 6. Define and Map Processes to be improved 7. Identification of critical to customer / critical to business characteristics (concept of tree diagram) 8. Type of Data, Sample Size determination for a given confidence level and Data Collection Planning including use of Prioritisation Matrix and/or FMEA 9. Introduction to various statistical software packages for data display and analysis 10. Measurement System Evaluation (Gauge R&R) for variables as well as attribute data

3 11. Understanding variation-special causes vs. common causes (like dot plots, box plots, histogram and control charts) 12. Stratification methods (like Pareto, Bar Diagrams, stratified dot plot, etc) 13. Evaluation of Process Capability and assessment of Sigma level 14. Process Mapping including, identification of value added and non value added activities. 15. Organizing for potential causes using cause and effect diagram, FMEA & Tree Diagram 16. Verification/validation of causes using work place investigation (GEMBA) 17. Concept of correlation and Regression and use of the same in validating causes 18. Concept of Test of Hypothesis like 2 Sample t, Chi Square, ANOVA etc and use of the same in validating the causes 19. Concept of Industrial experimentation 20. Select and prioritize solutions for validated causes including concept of Risk Analysis. 21. Develop plan for pilot and full scale implementation 22. Concept and Examples of Poke Yoke, Visual Workplace and 5S 23. Evaluation and monitoring mechanism (like control chart for controlling purposes, Process audit, Surveillance) of results after implementation of the solutions 24. Institutionalization and integration of the solutions 25. Process of Closing the Project 26. Work through at least 2 six sigma projects of different applications Program requirements: Acquiring knowledge and demonstrating abilities to resolve live problem using Six Sigma approach. Participants have to undergo class work followed by examinations. Eligibility Engineers/Managers/Executives from any functions, having any Bachelors degree with working knowledge of data handling using MS EXCEL. Faculty: Experienced faculty from Indian Statistical Institute. Certificate: Six Sigma-Green Belt certificate will be awarded on successful completion of training and passing the Qualifying examination (MCQ type) conducted on the last day.
