His Highness Late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, gave an utmost attention to the welfare of disabled and deprived individuals in the UAE. He introduced a pioneering system of social security to support deprived and disabled individuals, divorced women and orphans and fulfill their needs in a manner that preserved their dignity. His highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, continued the same course started by his late father. The UAE now provides a wide variety of medical, physiological and social care or disabled individuals. UAE government also provides them with appropriate educational opportunities to gain knowledge and skills necessary to increase their chances in leading a normal life and achieve financial and self independence. - What is the mission of ZHO? ZHO is an independent government organization that seeks sparing no efforts to provide social and humanitarian services in an effective way trusted by the society through-out the following: -The optimal utilization of its human, financial and technical resources. -The lucrative investment of the money and resources of the groups it fosters. -The full commitment of its employees to honesty and responsibility in doing their jobs. -Embracing the humanitarian values and principles derived from Islam. - What are the areas in which ZHO works? In April 19 2004, Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care, Special Needs and Minors Affairs was established in accordance with the provisions of law No. 2 for year 2004. The organization began to assume its responsibilities through its General Secretariat. All departments and centers reporting to the Organizations, including Al Ain Disabled Club also commenced their activities in accordance with the annual plan of activities approved by the Board of Directors. - Why ZHO choose to sponsorize EHF and EHC circuit? ZHO is providing educational, rehabilitation, and integration of its clients with special needs in accordance with international best practices. ZHO launched specialized centers all over the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and has developed the methods and the programs in order to facilitate the integration of the graduated students from these centers to the mainstream schools or to be employed according to their skills. - What are the results reached and what are the targets for the next two-three years? 5 % of the students with special needs have been integrated in the mainstream schools, 50 % of the students who graduated from ZHO centers have been employed in different governmental and private establishments. ZHO programs increased the awareness of the community and its involvement in the integration of the individuals with special needs. The strategy of ZHO for the coming 4 years is: - to expand the scope of the services provided by the Emirate-wide centers to absorb the increasing number of beneficiaries in 5 new centers. - to improve teaching and rehabilitation methods and curricula in order to enable more children with special needs to join mainstream education system. - to continue integrating more people with special needs into society and its organizations. - In which way EHF and EHC can help ZHO in the development of the programs?
