What is Bitdefender BOX? Think about Bitdefender BOX like an antivirus for your network. It s a hardware device that sits next to your Wi-Fi router and protects all Internet connected devices in the home. Digital threats have moved even to our new connected tablets, cameras, Smart TVs, thermostats. Bitdefender BOX comes in as the only way to protect them all. It will protect from fraud, malware, data theft, phishing, spying and other online threats. Network-level protection prevents threats from ever reaching your devices. BOX can be set up alongside an existing Wi-Fi router or by itself. Management is done via ios & Android apps. 3

The app will help you set up Bitdefender BOX, will be the notifications hub and will control the family devices even when you are away from home. Get Bitdefender BOX app on App Store or Google Play. Set up BOX To connect BOX to your existing router continue reading. To set up BOX as a standalone Wi-Fi router go to page 15 (Connect BOX to the Internet). Connect BOX to your router It s best to use this configuration when you already have a router providing Internet to your home devices. Multiple routers in your home BOX protects a single LAN network. If you need more than one router to provide full coverage for your home make sure BOX will be connected to the one that is ensuring the Internet connection for your home while keeping all the others configured as wireless extenders, in bridge or switch mode. Once the setup is completed BOX will protect all devices connected to your existing home network. You don t need to change any setting 7
on your Wi-Fi connected devices. Plug in the included power supply and connect it to BOX using the USB cable, then connect BOX to any available LAN port on your Wi-Fi router using the included cable (lift tray to get it). Start the setup Make sure you have the user name and password to connect to your router s web interface at hand. If you didn t change the default credentials for your router you can find them in the router s manual or User guide. In some cases, your ISP may have changed your connection credentials for security purposes and you should contact the ISP s support to obtain them. Open the BOX app for ios or Android. The app will guide you through the setup process. 1. Sign up or sign in with an account The account is a security measure to prevent others from accessing your BOX and a way to keep track of your BOX subscription. You just purchased BOX and it s the first time you set it up If you created an account when you purchased the BOX then SIGN IN with that account to activate the product. If you purchased the product but an account was not requested in 8 9
the process then SIGN UP and create a new account in the app. Once the account is created it will be directly linked to your BOX. If you sign out from the app you can t use a different account to manage your BOX. If you need to change your email address please contact Support to assist you. This is a safety measure to protect your family devices from unauthorized access. b. You have already configured BOX before If you tried to set up BOX and it didn t work but you already used an account, make sure you will use the same account the next time. Contact Support for assistance if you have a problem during this process. If you signed out please make sure you SIGN IN with the same account. 2. Add BOX to your network After you log in, the app will guide you through the setup options. If you have a router select this option in the app interface. For Apple Airport routers follow the setup flow described on page 12. Make sure you have connected BOX to your router as specified above and double-check the steps displayed in the app. During setup your device (phone or tablet) must be connected to the WiFi network provided by the router that BOX is connected to. 3. BOX connects to your router After BOX is configured properly it searches for your router to apply the needed configuration to complete the setup. You may be required to input your router admin user and password to allow BOX to connect to your router. Make sure you have the credentials at hand (in some cases, the Internet Service Provider may have your router credentials). The administrative credentials for your router are different from your Wi- Fi connection information (network name and password). BOX will connect to your router and perform the necessary steps automatically. 10 11
For specific router models and configurations manual intervention will be needed. a. You have a router that BOX can t connect to automatically The app will display your router s web interface. Please log in and disable the DHCP (dynamic IP allocation) server on your router. Afterwards you will need to reboot the router to apply the changes. The DHCP server option is usually placed in the router s LAN settings. Make sure you don t change the Internet connection type to DHCP if your ISP provides a different type of connection (static IP or PPPoE). option. Configure your Apple router to work in Bridge mode (use Airport Utility app from the App Store on your iphone or ipad or the Mac OSX Airport Utility application). Remove the Internet cable from the Apple router and insert it in the BOX WAN port [ ]. You have an Apple Airport Extreme, Express or Time Capsule You will need to perform the following steps that are also described in the app: Internet cable (from your ISP) Select the first option in the app interface that allows you to connect BOX to an existing router. Afterwards select the I have an Airport Ethernet cable from BOX package 12 13
If your Internet connection is provided through a modem of any type you need to remove the cable from the Airport and connect the modem directly to the BOX WAN port [ ]. Use the Ethernet cable found in the BOX package and connect the BOX LAN port [ ] to the Apple router WAN port [ ]. settings. If you need help with this step call our toll-free Support number: 800 804 4602. In some cases, the ISP can block Internet access to new network devices you set up. If that s the case you can provide the MAC address of your Airport router in the app interface and BOX will clone this address to avoid restrictions. You can find the Airport s MAC address on the back or side of the device. c. You have a gateway (modem-router combo) provided by your ISP Some Internet Service Providers limit the access to settings for the provided gateway (modem& router device). In this case BOX can t be configured to work alongside the existing router. Contact your ISP to find out if your provided router has the option to disable the LAN DHCP server option or access the router web interface and search for this option in the LAN (local area network) Connect BOX to the Internet You can connect Bitdefender BOX directly to the Internet without a router. BOX will act as your main router and will create a new secure and protected Wi-Fi network in your home. You can add additional signal repeaters or access points to provide full coverage for your home. BOX will be the gateway for these additional devices. This setup scenario is not recommended if you have another router that your devices connect to. In this case devices that connect wired or wireless to the existing router will not be protected by the BOX. 14 15
Power Bitdefender BOX using the included USB cable and power supply. Plug the Internet Service Provider (ISP) cable in the BOX WAN port [ ]. If your Internet connection is provided through a modem of any type (cable or DSL modem) you need to connect BOX to it using the Ethernet cable from the BOX package. If you have a modem with built-in router (gateway) the recommended scenario is to connect BOX to the router (page 14). Start the setup Open the BOX app for ios or Android and follow the steps described there. To perform the BOX setup, your device (phone or tablet) needs to be connected to mobile data until the BOX Wi-Fi is created. You need to connect your phone or tablet to the BOX Wi-Fi that is automatically created after you connect BOX to the Internet. If you can t find it in the list of available Wi-Fis on your device, please wait up to a minute until it becomes available. Modem 1. Add BOX to your network After you log in, the app will guide you through the setup options. Choose the second option in the configuration screen in the app to set BOX to work as your main router. Once BOX is installed, it will broadcast a new Wi-Fi signal called BOX with the default password 12345678. It may take, in some cases, longer than expected for the BOX network to be created but it shouldn t take longer than 2-3 minutes. The app will inform you when you need to connect to the newly created network to continue the setup. If you can t connect to this network please restart the BOX (short press of the reset button [ ]). In some cases, the ISP can block Internet access to new network devices you set up such as routers. If that s the case you can provide the MAC address of your previous router in the app interface and BOX will clone this address to avoid restrictions. You can find your old router s MAC address on the back or side of your router. 18 19
If you no longer have the device and you re not able to retrieve the MAC address you can contact the ISP and request access for your new BOX. In this case you can skip the step that requests the MAC address of your previous router in the app interface. After you connect to the BOX network the app will ask you for details regarding your connection type. The connection types supported by BOX are the following: PPPoE DHCP (dynamic IP allocation) Static IP You should have this information in your Internet Service Provider contract. When your connection type is set correctly you will be able to rename your BOX network and set a different password for it. Use the app to finish the setup process. Now you are all set. Fix a problem with your BOX If your BOX is experiencing problems during setup or after a while there are easy ways to get things running again in no time. Reboot BOX Short press the reset button [ ] on your BOX using a paper clip to get all services running smoothly in less than a minute. BOX Recovery Insert a paperclip in the reset button [ ] and hold for 10 seconds to begin Recovery. The BOX light should turn red when it s ready to begin. Open the app on your ios or Android device and select BOX in the bottom menu. Select the Recovery option to start the Recovery wizard that will guide you through the process. 20 21
Go to your device s WiFi settings and search for the BOX Recovery network. If the WiFi is not available right away wait a few seconds until it becomes available and connect to it using the password 12345678. Return to the BOX app and continue the Recovery process. Your BOX configuration will be updated and ready to use shortly. Managing your devices Once setup is complete Bitdefender BOX looks for all devices connected to your network. All active devices are automatically protected. You will be notified when they are active and you can assign them to Guest or Family lists. Family devices are special. They can be monitored and controlled remotely by installing a light BOX agent. This ensures a proper authentication and communication between these devices and your BOX. Removing BOX from your network It is best to safely remove BOX from your network before unplugging it to make sure your Internet connectivity is not affected in the process. ATTENTION! Disconnecting BOX from your router or from the power supply may result in Internet connectivity loss. To safely remove BOX, go to BOX Settings in the BOX app and tap Remove BOX. Done! Note: Re-connecting BOX requires a new setup process. 25
Caution! 1. Maintain connectivity To secure your network Bitdefender BOX analyzes the traffic going to and from the router to your devices. To do so it needs to stay permanently connected to your Wi-Fi router and power supply. affect its integrity and functionality. Keep away from water. Water can damage the circuits and make BOX unusable. Keep away from fire sources. Keep away from direct and long exposure to sunlight. Never disconnect the BOX from your router without making sure it s been safely removed. You may do this in the Bitdefender BOX app. Make sure the BOX and your Wi-Fi router are both always on and their cables firmly connected. If your Wi-Fi router stops performing properly and you need to reset it to factory settings, BOX will also need to be re-configured. Failure to respect these guidelines may result in loss of Internet connectivity. 2. Prevent physical damage Make sure you keep the BOX away from external factors that may 26 27
