Chinese Government Scholarships 2016/2017 In order to promote the mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in politics, economy, culture, education, and trade between the People's Reublic of China and the Slovak Republic, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Slovak Republic, as the dispatching authority entrusted by the China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) and the Ministry of Education of People s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as MOE), is responsible for receiving and approving the applications from the Slovak candidates of the Chinese Government Scholarship and recommending them to CSC. This Chinese Government Scholarship is a full scholarship provided single sided by the Chinese government out of the framework of the educational exchange agreement between the Chinese and the Slovak government. It supports undergraduate students, graduate students, general scholars and senior scholars. 279 designated Chinese universities offer a wide variety of academic programs in Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Legal studies, Economics, Management, Education, Philosophy, History and Fine Arts for scholarship winners at all levels. CATEGORIES, DURATION, LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION AND PROGRAM OPTIONS Supporting Categories Chinese Government Scholarship programs sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to undertake degree studies (bachelor, master and PhD) and Chinese language study or academic research in institutions of higher education in China. Duration Chinese Government Scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language/ preparatory study. The table below illustrates the duration of each category. Undergraduate scholarship recipients must register for Chinese-taught credit courses. They are 1

required to take one-year preparatory courses in one of the 10 universities listed below and to pass the required test before moving on to their major studies. Undergraduate scholarship recipients can apply for preparatory course exemption if they completed their secondary education in Chinese or have a valid HSK certificate that meets the requirements of the host university. Official documents from secondary schools or a photocopy of a valid HSK certificate must be submitted for a preparatory course exemption application. Please NOTE that HSK results are valid for only 2 years. Entrusted by MOE, the following 10 universities offer preparatory courses to undergraduate scholarship recipients. They are Tianjin University, Nanjing Normal University, Shandong University, Central China Normal University, Tongji University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Northeast Normal University, Beijing International Studies University, Capital Normal University, and the University of International Business and Economics. 2. Graduate and non-degree scholarship students can register for either the Chinese-taught program or the English-taught program if applicable. Program Search (By visiting http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or http://www.campuschina.org) can help you find the program and university you're interested in. Scholarship recipients of Chinese-taught programs without adequate Chinese proficiency must take Chinese language courses for one to two academic years to reach the language requirements of their host universities before moving on to their major studies. Failure to reach the required language proficiency will lead to the automatic termination of scholarship. Chinese language courses will be one year for majors in Science, Engineering, Agriculture, West Medicine, Economics, Management, Legal Studies and Fine Arts, and be no more than two years for majors in Literature, History, Philosophy and Chinese Medicine. Scholarship recipients of the English-taught programs or those with adequate Chinese language proficiency do not need to take Chinese language courses. Institutions and Majors Now 279 Chinese universities have been designated to enroll international students with Chinese Government Scholarship, and they offer a wide variety of programs. Full Scholarship covers Tuition waiver: Tuition funds will be comprehensively used by the host university. It may cover scholarship students education, administration costs and expenditures to support student activities. Accommodation: free university dormitory or accommodation subsidy. If the host university requires students to live on campus, the university will accommodate the scholarship students in a university dormitory (usually a twin room); if the host university permits students to live off campus, the university will provide monthly/quarterly accommodation subsidy: undergraduate students (preppies), master s students(general scholars): CNY 700 per month; doctoral students (senior scholars): CNY 1000 per month. Stipend: Undergraduate students: CNY 2,500 per month; Master s students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month; Doctoral students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month. Within the scholarship duration, registered scholarship students will receive a stipend from their host university each month. Students registering on or before the 15th of the month will receive a full stipend of that month. Those who register after the 15th of the month will receive a half stipend of that month. Graduating students will receive stipend until half month after the graduation date. If registered student stays out of China for more than 15 days due to a personal reason (school holidays excluded), his stipend will be stopped during his leaving. Comprehensive medical insurance. Foreigners Staying in China for insurance policy.) NOTE Above is the current standard of Chinese Government Scholarship. New standard shall apply in case of policy adjustment. ELIGIBILITY To be eligible, applicants must: -be a citizen of the Slovak Republic, and be in good health; -be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs; -be a bachelor s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master s programs; -be a master s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs; -be under the age of 45 and have completed at least two years of undergraduate study when applying for general scholar programs; -be a master s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for senior scholar programs. INSTRUCTION FOR APPLICATION Choose your target university. A total of 279 Chinese universities are designated by MOE to accept Chinese Government Scholarship students from which you can choose your target university. You can find them at this website: http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua/universityen.aspx. Please contact your target university and ask for a Pre-admission Letter. Applicants without Pre-admission Letter might be recruited by a different university other than their target universities. Send a E-mail to Mr. SONG Hongchao (kristof_song@126.com) from the Chinese Embassy with an application letter. If your application is approved, Mr. SONG Hongchao will provide you the Instructions of the CSC Online Application System for International Students and Award Letter for Chinese Government Scholarship Candidate. Register and submit your online application. Send all the required documents by April 1, 2016 to Mr. SONG Hongchao, Embassy of the People's Republic of China, Add: Jancova 8, 811 02 Bratislava. Documents received after this deadline will not be processed. Application Documents (in duplicate) a. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship(in Chinese or English). b. Notarized highest education diploma (photocopy): Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations. c. Academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations. d. A Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English. (A minimum of 200 words for 4

undergraduates, 500 words for non-degree students, and 800 words for postgraduates.) e. Recommendation letters: Applicants for graduate programs or senior scholar programs must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors. f. Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of their own works. Applicants for fine arts programs must submit a CD of their own works which include two sketches, two color paintings and two other works. g. Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China. h. Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form designed by the Chinese quarantine authority can be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or http://www.campuschina.org). The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months. i. Applicants with Admission Letter from designated universities should enclose the letter in the application package. j. Applicants with valid HSK Certificate should enclose it in the application package. NOTE: The above documents should be bound on top left corner (in duplicate). No application documents will be returned. Approval and Notification a. Recommended application documents from the Chinese Embassy will be reviewed by CSC. The applications will be regarded as invalid if the application documents fail to meet the requirements or the applicants are ineligible. b. Qualified applications will be forwarded to universities for recruitment. CSC reserves the right to make necessary adjustments on the university options, specialties, program categories and duration of study. CSC will forward the nominations to universities for recruitment approval. The application enclosed with Admission Letter will be forwarded directly to the host university which granted the Letter. c. Scholarship applicants accepted by Chinese universities will be officially awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship with the approval from CSC. Each applicant can only be granted one scholarship program. e. CSC will send, before July 31st, 2016 the List of Scholarship Winners, Admission Letter and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to the Chinese Embassy, who will forward the documents to the scholarship winners. f. Students are not permitted, in general, to apply to change their specialties, host universities or the duration of study as specified in the Admission Letter once they agree to accept the scholarship. 5

g. If applicants fail to register before the deadline for registration, their scholarship will not be reserved. Visa application Students under Chinese Government Scholarship Program should apply for visa to study in China at the Chinese embassy with the original documents and one set of photocopies of the Admission Notice, Visa Application for Study in China (JW201), Foreigner Physical Examination Form and valid ordinary passport. Those who will study in China for more than 6 months need to apply for visa Long-term study for over 180 days, and those who will study in China for less than 6 months (including 6 months) shall apply for visa of Short-term study for less than 180 days. The scholarship students must come to China and register with institutions with the original copies of the above documents. Students who come to China with other types of passports, visas or without the original documents will not be able to register with institutions, nor will they be able to apply for the residence permit in China.
