ISGF & TPDDL announces Certificate Couse on Smart Grids Duration: 8 weeks full time course Introduction: After the successful completion of first Certification Course on Smart Grids in 2015, India Smart Grid Forum is pleased to announce 2 nd Batch starting from 1 st August 2016 in association with VJTI, Mumbai. Government of India has recently approved the National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM), which is going to launch a new set of smart grid projects all across the country. Main focus of the next round of smart grid projects would be to leverage the assets created under R-APDRP to transform the distribution utilities to Smarter Grids with low incremental costs. For successful implementation of other programs that the GoI has recently launched, such as Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), new RE Program for 175 GW by 2022, 100 Smart Cities, Electric Mobility Mission with a target of 6-7 million EVs by 2022 etc, utilities need to adopt Smart Grid technologies at a faster pace. However, the technology is just one piece of the puzzle. Success of Smart Grid squarely depends on knowledgeable and skilled professionals who will implement and operate the new systems. Forum of Regulators (FoR) has approved a Model Smart Grid Regulations that each State Electricity Regulatory Commission can adopt. Assam and Karnataka commissions have already issued draft regulations; and other states are also expected to notify smart grid regulations soon. As per the model smart grid regulations all licensees are expected to setup a Smart Grid Cell within two months of notification of the smart grid regulations. In order to man these Smart Grid Cells, all utilities need to train their engineers and managers. This 2 months certification program will prepare engineers and managers to create the Smart Grid Cells. India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) is a public private partnership of the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India with the mandate of accelerating smart grid deployments across the country. ISGF has clear focus on changing the way we deliver electricity in our country. ISGF has been engaged in capacity building workshops on various aspects of Smart Grid in the recent past. Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited [TPDDL] is a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of NCT of Delhi with the majority stake being held by Tata Power Company (51%). Tata Power-DDL distributes electricity in North & North West parts of Delhi and serves a populace of 7 million. Tata Power-DDL has been the frontrunner in implementing power distribution reforms in the capital city and is acknowledged for its consumer friendly practices. TPDDL is one of the most leading utilities in the India who has travelled The Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) in Mumbai is one of the oldest institutes in the country with a legacy of more than 125 years of academic excellence. The institute is well known for its diploma, degree, and post graduate level programs in Engineering & Technology. With its aim of achieving greater visibility through focus on research,

innovations, and technology incubation, the institute provides rich knowledge on several ground breaking research areas. ISGF along with TPDDL and VJTI is pleased to announce the Second Batch of Smart Grid Certification Course for 8 week is starting from 1 st August, 2016. This course has been developed as a unique and first-of-a-kind program on Smart Grids that will prepare utility engineers, industry executives and fresh graduates to understand the nuances of smart grid technologies, architectures, standards, business models and implementation experiences of past projects. This 2 months program will not only cover the foundations of the Smart Grids but also add a practical flavour by deep diving into the details of core challenges that need to be addressed on various dimensions of it including field visits. Program Rationale: ISGF is a neutral body that comprises of experts from all stakeholder sections including ministries, utilities, regulators, technology providers, academia and students. As an advisory body to the Ministry of Power, Government of India, the views of the Forum are more holistic and inclusive. Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited [Tata Power-DDL] is a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of NCT of Delhi with the majority stake being held by Tata Power Company (51%). Tata Power-DDL distributes electricity in North & North West parts of Delhi and serves a populace of 7 million. Tata Power-DDL has been the frontrunner in implementing power distribution reforms in the capital city and is acknowledged for its consumer friendly practices. The participants will have first-hand experience to learn from one of the most leading utility in smart grid implementation in India. VJTI is a well-known academic institution with several years of experience in various fields of study. They also conduct research on several smart grid related areas such as cyber security, cascade-failures etc. The participants can take advantage of the experience and knowledge gained from the various activities at VJTI. Smart Grid technologies are essential for successful implementation of all flagship programs of Government of India such as o 24x7 Power for All o 100 Smart Cities o 175 GW Renewable Energy by 2022 o 6-7 million Electric Vehicles by 2022 o Separation of Carriage and Content as envisaged in the amendments to Electricity Act 2003 o UDAY and IPDS The Model Smart Grid Regulations issued by Forum of Regulators mandates all licensees to establish a Smart Grid Cell within 3 months of issuance of smart grid regulations by respective SERCs National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM) framework envisage a state level Smart Grid Mission and Smart Grid Cell in the Energy Department in each state

The electric grid in India is fast changing with increasing share of renewable energy resources connected at the low voltage grid and to operate and maintain the grid with two-way power flow Smart Grid technologies are required In order to address the above requirements, it is imperative to build a cadre of Smart Grid Experts in all electric utilities in India The 8 weeks full time certificate course on smart grids aim to supplement technical and managerial skills by providing updated knowledge in smart grid areas through conceptual knowledge and experiential learning Participants will be imparted with skills and knowledge to better appreciate/understand smart grid -related issues, leading to better business decisions.
