CAPABILITY STATEMENT Corporate Profile Akela Constructions Pty Ltd is a construction company with over ten years of local experience and a reputation for delivering quality building outcomes for government, commercial and residential clients. We are a locally owned and operated company with a keen eye for construction detail. With over 60 years of combined experience in management roles across the building and construction industry our team is dedicated to offering high quality design, building and project management services. Akela Constructions commenced as a small business utilising a home office space for 8 years. Now in a rapid growth phase, Akela Constructions have moved their company Headquarters to Helensvale at the northern end of the Gold Coast. This move has allowed us to combine bases for field and office staff, as well as provide ample storage for equipment and materials, ultimately allowing us to provide a more cohesive and streamlined service to our valued clients. As principle contractor, we prepare our construction safety plans specific to the site and scope of works. The plan is then used for training, induction and consultation purposes, and its effectiveness is reviewed against actual safety performance during the course of the project. Our Safety Policy All employees have a responsibility to identify health and safety risks and report them to the Site Supervisor. Akela Constructions proactively communicates health and safety to our people and implements programs to address hazards faced wherever we work. Measurable objectives and targets have been established with the objective of eliminating work-related injuries and illnesses. Employees are consulted and are involved in Occupational Health and Safety programs and actively take steps to assess and control risk. Quality Management System We are committed to continuously improving our systems and are currently working towards full certification in Quality Management System ISO 9001:2015, Environmental Management System ISO14001:2015 and Occupational Health and Safety Management System AS/NZS 4804:2001. Our People Ian Furber Director (Qualified Builder/Carpenter) Ian is an experienced builder and carpenter. Since establishing Akela Constructions in 2006, Ian has earned a reputation for delivering quality building outcomes for government, commercial and residential clients throughout south-east Queensland. Ian has a wide range of experience spanning 17 years in the building industry. During that time Ian spent approx. 7 years working in the residential sector and 10 years working in the government sector. Ian oversees all jobs that Akela Constructions undertakes. Cherie Williams Construction Administrator Cherie has 15 years experience in the Construction industry. She joined Akela Constructions for 18 months and is a highly motivated Construction Administrator carrying out all administrative construction activities. Cherie has strong communication skills liaising with staff and stakeholders coordinating all contracts & tenders. Cherie also handles all aspects of Akela Constructions accounts payable, receivable & payroll. She also offers assistance to the company Director, Site Operations Manager and Site Supervisors. Jared Allen Estimator Jared recently completed his Bachelor of Property and Sustainable Development majoring in Construction and Quantity Surveying at Bond University and is currently adding value as a Cost Estimator for Akela Constructions. He also has 7 year s background in on-site construction work. Angela Ingram Construction Administrator A new starter with a strong background in administration, information management, process and procedures analysis and documentation, Angela will ensure Akela Constructions meets its quality assurance obligations ensuring strict adaptation to compliance, health and safety policies, standards and practices. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) in Management from Lancaster University in the UK. Jody Furber Marketing Support Jody has been part of the Akela Constructions Team since the company s inception in 2006 working on the delivery of Tenders, with particular focus on written criteria and client communications. Jody assists with communications, stakeholder engagement and marketing strategies. She holds post-graduate qualifications in Law (LLB, Grad. Dip Legal Practice, Bond University) and Psychology (Post Grad Diploma of Psychology, Bond University) with experience in private legal practice; Queensland Public Sector Contract Administration and Procurement (with Building & Asset Services, formerly QBuild), and Transport Infrastructure Development. Ann-Maree Kellermann Office Support Assistant Ann-Maree has provided casual administration support during peak times adding value with the collation of tender/contract documentation and other administration duties as required. Dean Sosso Site Operators Manager (Qualified Carpenter) Dean has worked with Akela Constructions as a qualified Carpenter for the past 3 years. the building industry and works exceptionally well in a team environment. He is self-driven with effective time management practices and is approachable, positive by nature and team spirited. Over the past 5 years, Dean has worked on various government jobs and is very familiar with government work policies. Jack Powell Site Supervisor/Foreman (Qualified Builder/Carpenter) Jack joined Akela Constructions in 2015, Jack is a skilled tradesman and registered Builder with a wealth of experience in supervisory roles. He has an eye for detail and knowledge of finishes and building code. He has taken on the role of Site Supervisor / Foreman and continues to supervise effectively and fits in well with the Akela Constructions team. Dale Norton Leading Hand (Qualified Carpenter) Dale is a qualified Carpenter joining the team in May 2014. Dale has over 10 years experience in the building industry and works very well in a team environment. Over the past few years Dale has worked on various government jobs and is very familiar with government work policies. Steve Allen Leading Hand (Qualified Carpenter) Steve is a registered licenced Builder joining the team in April 2016. Steve has over 22 years experience in the building industry. Over the past few years Steve has worked on a wide range of Projects included large scale mining construction projects, renovations, residential homes and Child Care Centres. Benny Morrison Qualified Carpenter Benny joined Akela Constructions in June 2015 and has brought knowledge and expertise to the team. He is a qualified Carpenter with many years of experience in the construction industry. Benny brings great team work ethics and achieves fantastic workmanship in a timely manner. Logan Paget Qualified Carpenter Logan is a new starter with the company bringing 10+ years experience as a qualified Carpenter in the construction industry to Akela Constructions. Logan originally focussed his skills on residential work, however he is now expanding his knowledge and experience working on various government jobs. Logan has completed Akela Constructions induction process and knows and understands how to conduct himself on every job big or small. Clinton Einam Qualified Carpenter Clinton joined Akela Constructions in April 2016 after relocating to the Gold Coast and is bringing fresh knowledge and expertise to the team. He is a qualified Carpenter with experience in the construction industry both in Australia and Canada. Clinton is thirsty for knowledge and is a committed member of the team. Piotr Parniak Apprentice Carpenter (Mature Aged) Piotr is an experienced Labourer within the construction industry. Piotr joined the team in April 2014 and quickly displayed skills in carpentry. As a feature of Akela Constructions dedication to training and upskilling, it was suggested Piotr complete an Apprenticeship in Carpentry; he commenced this qualification in 2014. Piotr has been through the Akela Constructions induction process so he knows and understands how to conduct himself on every government job big or small. Adam Parniak Apprentice Carpenter Adam Parniak has been with Akela Constructions since October 2013. He is very keen to continue learning his trade and is now well into his Apprenticeship. Adam is very reliable and trust worthy and has been through the Akela Constructions induction process so he knows and understands how to conduct himself on every government job big or small. Anthony Pholaket Apprentice Carpenter (Mature Aged) Anthony Pholaket, an experienced Labourer within the construction industry, joined Akela Constructions in February 2015. As part of the company s initiative to recognise the importance of continuously improving the skills of its employees, Anthony began his Apprenticeship in Carpentry in July 2015. Anthony has been through the Akela Constructions induction process so he knows and understands how to conduct himself on every government job big or small. Shane Cherry Labourer Shane is a new starter with Akela Constructions in 2016, bringing knowledge and experience to our team working alongside our qualified tradesman. Shane has completed Akela Constructions induction process and knows and understands how to conduct himself on every job big or small. David Noon Technical Support David is the founder of Copy Inn; a local and reputable supplier of office equipment on the Gold Coast. David has held senior management positions with some of the largest companies in the office equipment industry. He will supply and maintain the information needs for Akela Constructions computing upgrade and ongoing maintenance.
