Each student has 7 hours of online tutoring per semester, and you can still get help in person at the Learning Center (AD 232). 1
P a g e 2 First, to access Smarthinking, log in to your MyGCC account. 2
P a g e 3 If you cannot remember your MyGCC log in password, go to Admissions and ask them to reset your password for you. Smarthinking will not be available through Moodle. If you get an Allow popups for this site warning, choose Allow pop ups for this site. Exit out of the popup that asks you to set up a Token ID, as you will not need it. 3
P a g e 4 Select the Smarthinking option from the Main Menu dropdown list. 4
P a g e 5 Click on the login button to be directed to the Smarthinking tutoring portal. Please make sure to read the notice on this page as it contains some important information! 5
P a g e 6 Once inside the Smarthinking environment, you can choose to get help in the Writing Center, the Drop-In Tutoring center and the Offline Questions center. If you need a tutoring appointment, select the Scheduled tutoring tab. Don t forget the other valuable resources on Campus: the Learning Center (AD 232), the Math Discovery Center (AS 103) and any resources your instructor may recommend! 6
P a g e 7 In the Writing center, you have a selection of options for the type of writing help that you need. 7
P a g e 8 If you choose Grammar and Documentation Review, submit the document, along with the information on this page for review. You will receive a response usually within 24 hours. 8
P a g e 9 After filling in the required information, upload your paper by clicking on the Browse button, locate your paper on your computer and then click on the submit button. Your paper must be in the following formats in order to submit them here: Word (.doc), a plain text file (.txt) or a Rich Text Format (.rtf). If you need help reformatting your paper, click on the link that says, Click here to learn how to change your format file. 9
P a g e 10 If you select Drop-In Tutoring, you can choose from the options in the Select a subject area that are not greyed out. Click on the Offline Question link if you need help on a subject that is not included as available here. 10
P a g e 11 If you select Academic Resources, you can access tutorials and other subject specific resources that will help you succeed in your classes. Using this area will not count against your 7 hours of allotted time in Smarthinking for the semester. 11
P a g e 12 If a drop-in tutor is not available, you can submit a question here in the Offline Questions section. When you click on the radio button of your subject, you will be taken to the Whiteboard submission area. 12
P a g e 13 The Whiteboard window will come up, with a popup window that has a Start button on it. 13
P a g e 14 You can write out your question here and click the Submit button. You will have to click the submission button in the popup window and name the question for future reference. Please note that you can use scientific notation and graphing options here if you need them. 14

P a g e 16 In the main Smarthinking window, you can get help by clicking on the red Customer Service tab in the upper right hand area of the page. Click on that tab. Fill out this email request for help and you will be contacted by the email that you put in the Your Email field. 16
