They also iclude a Masters-level postgraduate award, such as the PGCE or PGDE, awarded by LJMU. What is School Direct? School Direct is a alterative route ito teachig from traditioal uiversity-led postgraduate programmes. It offers traiees a more school-cetred approach to traiig. There are two types of School Direct traiig programmes available: School Direct (tuitio fee) ad School Direct (salaried). LJMU works with a umber of schools across Merseyside as part of the School Direct iitiative to provide postgraduate Iitial Teacher Traiig courses which lead to Qualified Teacher status. As a School Direct traiee, you may be workig at your school from the first through to the last day of the school year. You will also atted a short summer school at LJMU. School Direct (tuitio fee) traiig programme The School Direct (tuitio fee) traiig programme is ope to all graduates. You will pay tuitio fees ad may be eligible for a Bursary from the Natioal College for Teachig ad Leadership (NCTL). The amout of Bursary you receive will deped o your degree classificatio. Additioal Bursaries may be available for some secodary subjects. You will be eligible for tuitio fee ad maiteace loas from the Studet Loas Compay. Traiig icludes substatial time spet i school ad ivolves sigificat traiig orgaised ad provided by outstadig teachers. A elemet of your traiig will be uiversity-based. This is provided over several weeks ad leads to a postgraduate award with Qualified Teacher Status either a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma i Educatio (PGCE or PGDE), depedig o your cosortium. School Direct (salaried) traiig programme The School Direct (salaried) traiig programme is a employmet-based route ito teachig ope to graduates with at least three years work experiece. Please ote: schools ca decide to accept applicatios from cadidates with less work experiece to attract high-quality cadidates i hard-to-fill subjects, such as Mathematics ad Physics. This route is ideal if you are cosiderig a career chage. As a School Direct (salaried) traiee, you will be employed i a school durig your traiig ad will receive a salary from that school (the amout paid will deped o your subject). The school will also cover the cost of your traiig to become a qualified teacher. You will also be expected to atted LJMU-based sessios for half a day per week durig your traiig. Successful completio of the School Direct (salaried) traiig programme will result i a Postgraduate Certificate i Educatio (PGCE) i primary or secodary educatio. While the traiig provided by each cosortium is based o a framework agreed with the Uiversity, each School Direct programme is uique. QTS is the essetial accreditatio for ayoe who wats to teach i state-maitaied ad special schools i Eglad ad Wales as it demostrates that you have acquired the competecies ad qualities required to be a effective teacher, as determied by the Govermet s Teachers Stadards (2011). Subject Kowledge Ehacemet programmes (SKE) LJMU provides free Subject Kowledge Ehacemet programmes, i some secodary specialist subjects, i preparatio for School Direct programmes. QTS Professioal Skills Tests All iitial teacher educatio traiees are required to pass computer-based QTS Professioal Skills Tests i umeracy ad literacy before startig their ITT course. You will eed to register for these olie tests ad are advised to take them as soo as possible. You are restricted to three attempts for each of these tests, which must be completed before you begi your teacher traiig. Attempts two ad three icur a resit charge ad, if you fail either the literacy or umeracy test o three occasios, your applicatio ca ot be cosidered. The selectio process will ivolve teachers ad seior leaders from the school, ad LJMU tutors.
