Step 1: Check your System and Install Required Software NOTE: Make sure you are on the computer you will be using to access the online meeting room AND that you are using the internet browser (ie: firefox, internet explorer, etc) that you intend to use for accessing the online meeting. 1. Before accessing the online meeting room, ensure you have the required software by clicking on this link, reading Step 1, and following any instructions provided: http://support.blackboardcollaborate.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptid=8336&task=kno wledge&questionid=1473 2. Access to the online meeting room is granted via a URL provided by your instructor OR your instructor may make it available through a VIULearn (Desire2Learn) course in Communications > Online Rooms. 3. When accessing the online room (either by clicking the URL or going to your VIULearn (Desire2Learn) course, you may see the following page: 4. In order to access your Blackboard Collaborate Room you must download and install the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher. Choose either Windows or Mac from the drop-down menu, depending on the computer system you are using, and then choose Download. Page 1 of 7
5. You may see the following page and pop-up window: 6. Choose Save File if the launcher installer package does not automatically download. 7. Locate the saved launcher installer package on your computer, and run the installer by double clicking on it. 8. If you are asked whether or not you want to run the file, choose Run. Page 2 of 7
9. The Blackboard Collaborate Launcher Setup Wizard should run. Select Next and then choose Install. 10. Be patient while the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher installs. If you receive any system security prompts, allow the installer to continue. When the installer is finished, you will see the following screen. Choose Finish. Page 3 of 7
Step 2: Launching a Blackboard Collaborate Online Meeting Room 1. If you have already installed the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher software, you can launch your online meeting room by using the URL provided by your instructor OR your instructor may have made the room available through a VIULearn (Desire2Learn) course in Communications > Online Rooms. 2. Depending on the Internet Browser you are using (ie: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc) and your specific browser settings you may be prompted to allow pop-ups or Java. See screenshots below. 3. You may see the screen prompting you to download and install the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher again. If you have already downloaded and installed the software, simply click on Launch Blackboard Collaborate now. Page 4 of 7
4. You may be prompted to enter your screen name for the meeting. Please enter your full name OR the name requested by your instructor, and then click Log In. NOTE: This option does not always appear. It will depend on how the instructor has configured the online meeting room. 5. The Online Meeting Room will now attempt to launch. See screenshot below. Depending on your internet browser settings you will either need to: A. Select Open with and click OK OR B. The file may download and you will need to find the downloaded file on your computer and double click the file to launch the program. Page 5 of 7
6. Once you have launched the program file you may see a window telling you to verify the application. Let this window run and do not click Cancel. 7. You will see the Blackboard Collaborate logo (see screenshot below) as the program is launching. Page 6 of 7
8. The Online Meeting Room will now load. Welcome! 9. Run the Audio Setup Wizard to test your audio configuration. Page 7 of 7
