1 TransUnion Direct: Download Digital Certificate Internet Explorer Getting Started What You Need to Know Important: Both the user and the administrator need to be present at the user s PC. The user should log into his/her computer as usual. Administrators Please download your own digital certificate before assisting users. To help users download their certificates, you ll need the following: User ID Password To assist users who have forgotten their account information, or to view a list of all users within your location(s), log into TransUnion Direct and search by user, or click View all users in the Administration tab. You can look up the user s ID, reset the password, and/or reset the challenge question as necessary. Users To download your digital certificate, you ll need to know the following: Your User ID Your Password Your Challenge Response the answer to the Challenge Question for your account. Sample challenge question: What is the name of your first pet? (New users will create one when they log in for the first time.) Download the Digital Certificate 1. Open a web browser and access TransUnion Direct: 2. The user should enter his/her User ID and Password, and then click Log In. 2 3. A dialog box appears to inform the user that a digital certificate must be downloaded in order to use TransUnion Direct. To begin the process, click 4. Click the blue Launch the certificate download wizard link. A pop-up window will open. 5. In the Download Digital Certificate with Administrator Assistance window, the administrator should enter his/her User ID and Password, and then click 6. In the Download Digital Certificate window, the user should enter his/her Password (if prompted) and their Challenge Response, and then click 7. Instructions will appear. Under Step 1, click Download Certificate. 8. In the File Download window, click Open. April 30, 2014 Page 2

3 9. The Certificate Import Wizard will open. Click Next. 10. The File to Import dialog box opens. If the file name of your certificate (which should be Direct Cert.pfx or something similar) does not appear, click Browse and navigate to and select the file. When the correct file appears in under File Name, Click Next. 11. IMPORTANT: The user must enter his/her Challenge Response in the password field under Password for the private key. (This is NOT for his/her TransUnion Direct password). Then click Next. Do not select either checkbox. 12. The Certificate Store window appears. Select the Automatically select the certificate store option. Then click Next. 13. When notified that you have successfully completed the Certificate Import Wizard, click Finish. 4 14. If you receive a security notice verifying the details of the certificate, click Yes. 15. When alerted that the import was successful, click OK. 16. Click Close at the end of the instructions to close the popup and return to the main browser window. 17. Under Step B, click the checkbox to confirm that the download was successful then click 18. Click Log Out. Close all internet browser windows and any other programs connected to the internet. 19. Open a new browser window and access TransUnion Direct ( Upon entering your User ID and Password you will be presented with a splash screen to easily set the TransUnion Direct-Certificate URL to your Favorites by clicking the link. Then click The site will not recognize that the digital certificate has been installed until you have done this. Remember to save the web address to your Favorites or Bookmarks! 5 20. Type in your User ID and Password, and then click Log In. If a Client Authentication window pops up, click on your user ID, and then click OK. 21. You re now ready to use TransUnion Direct!
