Invision - Clowning Around

For more than 55 YEARS, J+J Flooring Group has helped create healthy and engaging learning environments for students throughout North America. Working with building and design professionals to determine the best floorcovering solutions, J+J Flooring Group offers the HIGHEST LEVELS of styling, value, quality, sustainability, durability, and ease of installation and maintenance. With our two brands, Invision broadloom and modular carpet and Kinetex textile composite flooring, we focus on the practiced approach of EVIDENCE-BASED design to provide a solid foundation for enhanced learning environments. Evidence-Based Design Educators and professionals who design, build and maintain school facilities are increasingly turning to the principles of evidence-based design when making design decisions. A growing body of research correlates certain aspects of learning environments with measurable outcomes. Environmental factors such as lighting, acoustics, color usage and indoor air quality can influence: higher academic performance more effective teaching improved student attendance reduced disciplinary problems safety and ergonomics better faculty retention Studies have shown that 92% of teachers believe that classroom design has a strong impact on student learning and achievement. 1 With floorcovering as one of the single largest interior finishes, the opportunity to positively influence the learning environment is great. From the use of color to add visual interest and affect mood to reducing fatigue and absorbing background noise soft-surface flooring not only enhances interior aesthetics but offers health and safety benefits not available with hardsurface floorcoverings. Fiscal Responsibility Nearly 60 million students attend more than 130,000 elementary and secondary schools in the United States alone. Many school districts are faced with a large student population that continues to grow. However, this growth is complicated by continually decreasing budgets with which to build and renovate facilities. Selecting, Total cost-of-ownership per sq ft Flooring Life-Cycle Cost Comparision $12 $10 $8 $6 $4 $2 $0 $9.60 $9.21 $8.30 $10.30 $7.90 $2.30 installing and maintaining floorcovering can be a daunting task, especially on a tight budget. When product installation, maintenance and labor costs are tallied over a 10 year period, carpet and Kinetex has been shown to have a lower life-cycle cost than hardsurface floorings. Not only is our carpet and Kinetex more than 50% less costly to maintain than hard surface flooring but replacement costs are significantly lower for both compared to other flooring options. 2 7 years maintenance cost / Southeastern US $0.91 $5.60 $0.91 $0.49 $0.49 installation & materials cost / Southeastern US $8.30 $2.30 $5.73 $4.02 $3.25 The costs shown reflect average SE United States costs, which may vary depending upon the cost of materials, the cost of installation and the cost of maintenance. The relative costs will remain approximately the same for most geographic locations. 2 Bishop, J., Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification. (2002). Flexibility = Solutions Our product line coordinates colors and patterns across broadloom and modular offerings, giving facility teams the flexibility and customization to identify the right carpet for each project s installation and performance needs. Invision - Big Bang J+J Flooring Group provides soft-surface floorcoverings that can be used through-out a school facility, meeting the varying requirements of classrooms, media centers, offices, and corridors. Not to be overlooked, entryway systems play an important role in keeping the rest of the building clean. Walk-off tiles that extend six to 15 feet inside an entrance will trap 80% of soil and moisture from the first five or six steps. Designed to exceed expectations in performance, color and design, J+J Flooring Group products offer a durable flooring solution that withstands moisture, blocks odors, and resists stains. We stand behind every aspect of our carpet with our Total Performance System, a complete warranty package that guarantees the performance of our fiber, backings and adhesives for the life of your installation. SENTIR Odor Blocking Protection Sentir is a odor-absorbing technology applied to J+J Flooring Group carpet that is especially beneficial with odor-bearing spills. With Sentir, once a spill has been cleaned, no odor lingers. Sentir remains effective regardless of cleaning regimen for the life of the carpet. 6

Easy In, Easy Out From the day our carpet is installed to the day it leaves the facility when its useful life is over, J+J Flooring Group ensures working with our product is an easy A. Non-directional design makes modular carpet easier than ever to install. With TileTabs, our glue-free installation solution for modular carpet, it just got easier. Carpet tiles are easily connected together in a method that eliminates the need for full spread adhesive, which extends installation time because of required drying time. Approximately 120 square yards of carpet can be installed using a single roll of odor-free and VOC-free TileTabs, which is comparable to one bucket of traditional adhesive. When it s time for our product to be replaced after long years of service, we can help our customers identify the best end-of-life option for discarded carpet. The Carpet and Rug Institute s Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) Network estimates that a staggering 3.6 billion pounds of carpet are landfilled each year. No matter the carpet s manufacturer or if the customer purchases or specifies Invision products, our Carpet Reclamation Program facilitates the reclamation of used carpet and guarantees it won t reach the landfill. Textile Composite Flooring Kinetex is an advanced textile composite flooring that combines key attributes of soft-surface floor covering with the long-wearing performance characteristics of hard-surface flooring. Created as a unique alternative to hard-surface products, Kinetex encompasses an unprecedented range of attributes for education, healthcare, corporate, retail and institutional environments. In addition to its human-centered qualities and highly functional design, Kinetex offers a reduced environmental footprint compared to traditional hard-surface options. Kinetex - Flash 8

1. Durability Kinetex is one of the most thoroughly tested flooring products ever to be introduced. With outstanding dimensional stability and crush resistance, Kinetex has withstood over 5 million foot traffic events with minimal wear. That equates to more than the total number of people who have attended every Super Bowl since the first game, 49 years ago. 2. Maintenance Kinetex is tough to wear out but cleans easily with vacuuming and hot water extraction cleaning. Its lightweight face construction retains less water than carpet and therefore dries quickly. Kinetex is bleach resistant and resists the most challenging stain agents, such as blood, urine, betadine and hand sanitizers. 3. Health Kinetex easily surpasses California s 01350 requirements for low-voc emissions and substantially minimizes airborne particles by sequestering common allergens, irritants and dust. In addition, bleach-resistant Kinetex is easily sanitized and has a very short drying time when cleaned. 4. Safety Kinetex s unique construction creates one of the most slip resistant flooring surfaces ever tested, wet or dry reducing the potential for slip and fall injuries. Its unique low profile also has minimal rolling resistance, potentially reducing injuries from pushing and pulling. 5. Acoustics Kinetex features the highest Noise Reduction Coefficient and Impact Insulation Classification of any commercial flooring product. This unparalleled acoustic performance results in dramatic reductions in both airborne and structure borne noise. Its excellent Impact Insulation Classification effectively promotes less vocal strain, fewer mistakes, enhanced learning, improved occupant perception and greater voice recognition. wall base Designed to coordinate with Kinetex textile composite flooring, our 4 inch straight wall base protects walls from scuffs while offering a finished aesthetic that perfectly complements your Kinetex flooring. For additional information visit jj-kinetex.com/products/wallbase. 6. Comfort Kinetex s high-density non-cushioned backing and bonded textile surface provides exceptional anti-fatigue properties along with minimal rolling resistance. It embodies the potential to absorb energy and reduce both repetitive foot stress injuries and ambulant related injuries. 7. Sustainability Due to its lower mass, Kinetex has a 50% lower environmental impact compared to other commercial floorings. With greater than 60% post-consumer recycled content, Kinetex may be the first flooring product to achieve NSF-140 Platinum status when launched. In addition, Kinetex is easily recycled into the next generation of itself, as easily a soda bottle. 1 box of kinetex (18 tiles or 72 sq. ft.) contains the equivalent of Kinetex - Propel, Pop FLOORING FOR EDUCATION 9

More than Meets the Eye Designing a learning environment can be complex; yet, they all deserve stylish and functional design that doesn t compromise on durable performance and health and safety concerns. J+J Flooring Group offers broadloom and modular carpet products along with textile composite flooring that create visual interest while providing a flexible background for other interior finishes. Color Research has shown that colors in a classroom can stimulate learning, increase productivity and attention span, and affect moods. Students respond to colors differently as they age. Younger students are stimulated by brighter colors, while older students and teens are more likely to have better concentration in cool color environments. Using colors and graphics to promote way finding can be very effective with younger students. 3 Kinetex - Velocity, Accelerate 10 Invision - Big Bang 3 Mahnke, Frank H. and Mahnke, Rudolf H.. More than Meets the Eye CONTINUED Comfort More comfortable to walk, stand and sit on than hard surface flooring, both carpet and Kinetex textile composite flooring have been found to reduce leg fatigue and posture discomfort. 4 Because soft-surface absorbs and retains inside ambient heat longer than hard surfaces, work and learning spaces can comfortably be extended to the floor while being more cost efficient for the facility team. Cushioning Properties * Acoustics A quieter learning atmosphere means fewer distractions and better listening. Evidence shows that students in classrooms with soft-surface such as carpet and Kinetex textile composite flooring have higher levels of academic achievement, behavior, attention and concentration than those in classrooms without softsurface. Eighty-one percent of teachers believe that a quiet environment with good acoustics had a very strong impact on students learning and achievement. 5 By minimizing impact noise and reducing sound reverberation background noise is less likely to interfere with children s learning. Additionally, less acoustic protection is necessary on the ceiling and elsewhere when carpet and Kinetex are on the floor. Health & Safety Creating a safe and healthy school environment extends from indoor air quality to providing a surface that can help prevent injuries and illness. Indoor Air Quality Because carpet and Kinetex traps dust, dirt, pollen, mold spores, pesticides and other allergens within its fibers, it prevents them from circulating in the air very important when many of our customers are under five feet tall. If facilities follow a regular cleaning schedule, a significant amount of once-airborne particles can be removed from the indoor environment. Hard surface floorcoverings, however, show higher airborne particle concentrations because they are stirred up by walking, air circulation and sweeping. 6 Daily vacuuming is the most effective means of keeping carpet in schools clean. Most dry soil can be removed from carpet by following routine vacuuming procedures, but deep cleaning must be performed on stubborn or embedded soil. J+J Flooring Group recommends that carpet be cleaned by low moisture or absorbent compound extraction before it shows obvious soiling. Because fewer chemicals are needed to maintain carpet compared to other flooring, students and staff are not exposed to unnecessary cleaning chemicals. Additionally, hard surface cleaning supplies are about seven times more expensive than those needed for carpeted floors. 7 One of the lowest emitters of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) among building materials, carpet s VOC emissions drop significantly after the first 24 hours following installation. J+J Flooring Group tests its carpets under the Carpet & Rug Institute s Green Label Plus program. Additionally, our products are optimized to meet the indoor air quality guidelines in the California Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) protocol. Flooring Slip Fall Injury Rates 46% 17% Preventing Injury & Illness Seventy-seven percent of teachers believe that carpets help prevent slips and falls, creating a much safer learning environment for students. 8 Because carpet provides a softer landing, if there is a fall, the chance of injury is reduced. Not only can smooth, shiny floors lead to falls, but the resulting glare can have negative effects as well. Carpet offers a non-glare surface that reduces reflection and eyestrain. Even at elevated humidity levels, clean carpet does not support the growth of mold. 9 By preventing leaks and quickly cleaning up spills, mold is deprived of the elements it needs to grow. J+J Flooring Group offers backings specifically designed to prevent liquids from penetrating the back layer where moisture could result in mold growth. Environmental Considerations Over the years, third-party certification of environmental claims has risen in importance in the contract market. With many organizations in the marketplace providing certifications based on differing standards, it can be difficult for customers to accurately compare products. To help, J+J Flooring Group has provided the following independent verifications of our environmental attributes. J+J Flooring Group offers five product categories that are NSF/ANSI Standard 140 Certified. All J+J Flooring Group carpets, adhesives and seam sealers comply with the Carpet and Rug Institute s Green Label Plus Testing Program for Indoor Air Quality. Additionally, all J+J Flooring Group products is manufactured in an ISO 14001 certified facility. Environmental Product Declarations are available for 98% of J+J Flooring Group products. We provide a wide selection of modular and broadloom products that are compatible with the LEED for Schools and CHPS ratings systems. From classrooms and libraries to administration areas and corridors, Invision crafts beautiful, high-performance, cost-effective commercial carpet for the learning environment. As a brand of J+J Flooring Group an independent, family-owned business for three generations, we engineer our broadloom and tile offerings with a steadfast commitment to design, quality, service, integrity and sustainability.
