Our Investment Philosophy 1. Client Focused Objectives We invest each portfolio according to clear, written objectives we establish in our planning work with each client. 2. Investment Advisory Platform Our practice is built on a registered investment advisor, fee based account management platform with a legal fiduciary obligation to provide prudent investment advice to clients. We believe this model best aligns us with our client s best interests. 3. Global Asset Allocation We believe proper asset allocation is one of the most important factors in realizing investment returns. Our global asset allocation portfolios are built with the guidance of our Global Investment Committee (GIC) and are refined with our personal insight and opinion. (figure 1) figure 1. The MSCI ACWI (All CountryWorldIndex)Index is a free float-adjusted market capitalization weighted index designed to measure the equity market performance of developed and emerging markets.(as of 6/2009) 4. Investment Research We use a formal, disciplined process and defined quantitative metrics to identify the most suitable investment in each asset class, and for the portfolio as a whole. We gain specific insight from our Consulting Group and our Global Capital Markets departments to find appropriate investments or proven investment managers. (figure 2) 5. Rebalancing Because markets change, we regularly rebalance accounts to retain the integrity of the initial portfolio allocations. Rebalancing occurs based on market conditions, established timelines or new guidance from the GIC. 6. Ongoing Investment Monitoring We review each investment in formal monthly meetings. The process and discipline of regular, formal reviews helps ensure we stay abreast of global issues that affect our client s portfolios. figure 2. Our investment screening process utilizes quantitative and qualitative research.
