Upgrading or Migrating If migrating from BPC 7.5 then an important decision is to either Upgrade or Migrate. Consider a scenario of a BPC 7.5 system running NetWeaver 7.01 Several possible strategies to be considered: Direct upgrade on same server System Copy of the source system, and then in-place upgrade on the copy Fresh installation of BPC 10.1 on HANA, and migration of the BPC content from the BPC 7.5 system.
Upgrading or Migrating Upgrading, in-place or on a copy, means: Upgrading Netweaver to 7.40. Installing the BPC 10 ABAP component. Migrating the database to SAP HANA. Adding the HANABPC accelerator Is disruptive, as it breaks the BPC 7.5 system before BPC 10 system is ready. Any issues can leave no working environment. If already using BPC 10 then upgrading is more straight forward.

Migrating to new hardware New hardware setup with Netweaver on HANA. BPC and its accelerator for HANA installed. No disruption to the 7.5 system Application sets migrated using UJBR. Transaction data can be brought over in variety of ways depending on volume (UJBR, Data Manager, Open hub). Limits disruption and risk. Benefits related to using new hardware.
